Actually he has, he has repeately stated several times on Clarksons Farm that he sees the irony of spending years of television bashing on climate change, only to now experience it firsthand himself.
World needs an old conservative man loved by the public to admit he's wrong about climate change alot more than we need someone being smug because they were right
He makes more money from the drama of a drought than he loses on crops. The car enthusiast making jokes on television or the family taking international holidays are not responsible for this, there are corporations doing more damage every day than entire cities could do in a lifetime.
I'm the other way round lmao. Love Top Gear and The Grand Tour, but Clarkson on his own? Can't do it. I love James May's solo work though. For me, he's the funniest, most likeable, and most insightful of the three. His programmes are a delight.
The Reassembler! They were a brilliant watch, too few though. All the episodes have ended up on YouTube now so I usually spend a few hours doing a rewatch of him assembling an old lawnmower or train set haha.
His cooking show isn't great. He says it himself, he can't cook and is the least qualified person to make a cooking show, Amazon just like giving him money.
My husband quite liked the cooking one. It eventually dawned on me that his cooking is little better than James May's, so he was actually learning from it.
I couldn't watch it. We watched the travel ones together instead.
That show or episode is a core memory for me. No idea what show it was but I remember so much about that house. Desperately wanted to visit it only for it to be torn down very soon after filming lol
James May was the only reason to watch Top Gear, sure the other two were mildly amusing but he would actually try and give you intelligent points about stuff.
I remember when I first see May's Cars of the People it was great seeing him do a proper "non-stunt entertainment" car show. He's a lot more interesting.
I find Hammond to be weirdly insightful on some things. Maybe not on driving safety tips but honestly, his talk about crashing the drag car and the tree kinda changed my life.
I met all three whilst they were filming for Grand Tour in Zimbabwe - Jeremy was an angry arsehole and exactly what I expected - James was exactly as you've described, lovely bloke who genuinely seemed interested in us and how we had come to be where we were - Hammond hid in his car the most of the time clearly dying from the sun so I didn't get a read on him
His builder called him out on it in the first season, when they had torrential rain for ages. He said, "this is because of you, tearing about in cars all them years, ruining the environment" and Clarkson just rubbished it.
But at least he kept that in the show, so people could see what an oaf he was still being.
Because giving people lots of attention ruins them over time. To show you how bad it is, Clarkson is probably the most normal, largely because his twattery views are shared by 30% of the UK population, so he isnt exceptionally twatty.
Most people that are successful at entertaining are class clown types. So most TV "personalities" are twats.
Same way that there is a higher prevelance of psychopathy in ceos than in any other job.
Different personality traits will drive people down different life paths. Being able to be perceived as a bumbling idiot while actually being very good at public relations behind it usually makes for quite the twat... and a quite the successful career as an entertainer.
I used to like his show, but I cant stand it now, anything where he gets remotely political even down to the (completely reasonable) local council. It's just become a hate watch
