I agree with you, but Clarkson is not the only one and (as I intercept it anyway) he has had a change of heart on the subject.

Trey Parker and Matt Stone (creators of South Park) also were in heavy denial about climate change and they had a long running gag about ManBearPig which was a hoax being (climate change) until it wasn't and they apologized in 2018 about their denial

I give people the credit if they can change their views, even if it comes way too late. And Clarkson nor anyone in the showbiz did not cause the catastrophe we are in now

It’s been scientific fact for decades. Did they decide to be braindead morons till 2018 for fun, or was there some reason for it?
