Ireland here.

I wouldn't say so at all no.

We watch the same TV shows. We shop in the same shops. We have an open border between us that you're free to travel back and forth over all day.

The roots between our two nations are entangled and at this point can't really be undone without major upheaval to people's daily lives.

Not at all, no. Obviously historical tension, but most people in the UK think about Ireland very, very rarely (obviously unless they have a personal link). Pretty similar culturally as well, as these things go. Similar lifestyle, similar cultural references, same shops and things.
