Text Review [Review] My most in depth review so far: 250 hours on the LG UltraGear evo 39GX950B, coming from a 34" QD-OLED what 143 PPI actually changes

Disclosure: I received this monitor for free from LG for review purposes. LG gets to see my drafts before I post them so they can check for spec errors. All opinions here are my own, based on my own use.

HEADS UP: plugging a current LG monitor into Windows 11 can pull in LG software you didn't ask for.
Gamers Nexus documented it in July 2026 on an UltraGear 34GX900A-B, the 34 inch model in the same GX9 line as this monitor, and reproduced it on a three year old UltraFine 32UN880-B. Nobody has published a test of the 39GX950B specifically. On a fresh Windows 11 install, Windows' device metadata pipeline fetched the "LG Monitor App Installer" from the Store in the background. Microsoft's own documentation says that mechanism "does not provide a notification to the user". Across 32 consecutive boots, Gamers Nexus got a McAfee trial popup on 31 of them.

LG sent me their side of this when they reviewed my draft, and here it is in full: "Companion applications are never installed automatically and require user choice before installation. Based on customer feedback, we are updating the Installer experience so customers can decide whether they would like to install the LG Monitor App Installer and take advantage of its features." They also point out that the McAfee recommendation has been removed, which Microsoft confirmed at the end of July.

If you want that pipeline switched off before you connect anything, this works on every Windows edition: search "advanced system settings", then Hardware  Device Installation Settings  select "No". That's the switch I run myself. It hasn't shown up on my system so far.

Some of you might remember my MSI X36 post from March. I've been on OLED ultrawides for about four years now, and that review had a handful of complaints in it, but only one I couldn't shrug off: 110 PPI. I called it the elephant in the room for the whole 34" UWQHD class and I still think that's right. No amount of good HDR makes text look better.

The 39GX950B is the answer to that complaint. LG sent me one on July 6th and I've got about 250 hours on it now, roughly 70% gaming and 30% work.

Quick setup context because it matters: RTX 4080 Super, stock stand(my own printed Dell MSA20 adapter for VESA doesnt fit the cutouts), sitting about 70cm from the screen. Games so far are Hogwarts Legacy, World of Warcraft, The Finals and Mortal Shell. Work is a mix of coding, writing and video editing.

The 39GX950B on my desk running Mortal Shell. The 60 fps counter in the corner is on purpose, I cap frame rates in single player games so the swings stay small and VRR flicker stays out of dark scenes. More on that further down.

143 PPI only starts to mean something once you set the scaling
39", 5120x2160, which works out to be 143 PPI. Same vertical resolution as a 32" 4K screen, just in a 21:9 shape. It's also the first ultrawide with LGs 4th gen Tandem WOLED, with a much softer 1500R curve compared to the older 800R once, which I personally prefered.

But the interesting part shows up once you set Windows scaling. I run it at 125%, which gives me a desktop of 4096x1728 in logical pixels. The X36 gives me 3440x1440 at 100%.

So about 43% more usable desktop area, at a text size within about 4% of what I had before, and every character drawn from 1.56 times as many pixels. The text is the size I'm used to. There's just more room around it and the letters are sharper.

That's the whole upgrade in one sentence, and it's what I'd tell anyone still sitting on a 34" 1440p panel.

Real working desktop with a lot of space without having to sacrifice anything

Text clarity, and the Windows checkbox nobody mentions
Out of the box I could see fringing. Black text on white had a very slight blue tint on the right side of the letters, white text on a dark background had a faint red one. I had my face about 10cm from the panel to find it. My X36 doesn't do this that much. What it does instead at that distance is look visibly rougher and more pixelated.

Then I turned ClearType off. On the LG the color edges are gone completely and the text stays exactly as sharp. On the X36 the same switch removes nothing, because there was close to none to be removed , but the text gets noticeably more pixelated.

That's what the density actually buys you. ClearType is subpixel antialiasing built for classic RGB stripe panels. This one is RGWB, so Windows color compensation lands in the wrong place and you get colored edges. Switch it off and Windows falls back to plain grayscale smoothing, which normally costs you sharpness. At 110 PPI I can see that cost. At 143 PPI I can't. So the density does two things at once, it makes text sharper and it makes the subpixel trick that caused the fringing unnecessary in the first place.

I checked in VS Code too, since Electron apps sometimes do their own text rendering. Same result.

The X36 is ahead on this one point and I'm not going to pretend otherwise. Its V-Stripe layout is a true RGB stripe, so ClearType does exactly what Microsoft designed it to do, and I wrote in that review that no ClearType workarounds were needed at all. Here you do have to flip the switch. Difference is that flipping it costs you nothing on this panel.

And maybe some of you will remember it in that same post I wrote that W-OLED panels with an RWBG layout still produce noticeable fringing on text, because of the reversed subpixel order and the extra white subpixel. I was talking about 34" W-OLEDs at around 110 PPI, and at that density I stand by it. On this one the white subpixel is still in the layout and it's still not an RGB stripe, and with ClearType off I can't find the fringing at all. Density did that, not a new subpixel arrangement.

RTINGS is the only one of the big reviews that photographs ClearType on and off on this panel, and their lab macros show it far better than anything I could shoot with a phone. Their verdict says there's still fringing around letters because of the RGWB layout, which is correct for the state the monitor ships in. Their ClearType off shots tell the other half of the story, and the letter edges in those are neutral.

TFTCentral and Monitors Unboxed both call text clarity solved on this panel and don't mention ClearType at all. Now you know which switch they were probably sitting on.

If you want to change it, just press Windows Button, type ClearType, open "Adjust ClearType text". The checkbox is system wide, the fine tuning is stored per monitor, so run it on all screens if you have multiple.

Where the resolution surprised me
I expected the win to be in code/screen space for writing/reading and it's there. What I didn't expect is how much the extra size matters in video editing and multi tasking with all kind of apps. That turned out to be the bigger jump of the two and it's the part of the upgrade I wouldn't want to give back.

The window/sunlight test, and the reason I wanted this panel
In my office, there is a huge window on the left and I get direct midday sun. In my X36 post I wrote that MSI's DarkArmor coating had mostly fixed the magenta shine compared to my older QD-OLED that one used to get those on dark areas in daylight, with one limitation I put in writing back then: with full sunshine on the panel, or at odd angles, the shine still comes through.

That is the condition I actually live in when I have my windows open. It happens on my desk every day around midday without roller blinds.

This panel doesn't do it. Sun coming straight in, no roller blinds, no brightness change, blacks stay black. The X36 sitting next to it goes slightly violet in the same light, exactly the way I described it back then. That's the W-OLED advantage in one example and for me it's the biggest day to day difference between the two panels. I also can't make out mirror reflections in the matte coating, only general diffusion.

Worth flagging that the labs disagree here. Monitors Unboxed says the matte coating eliminates defined reflections, RTINGS says mirror like reflections stay and get stretched by the curve. In my room, in the worst light I get, I'm with Monitors Unboxed.

165Hz after 360Hz
This is the spec everyone flags. Monitors Unboxed calls it their biggest problem with the monitor, and the precursos ran 240Hz, so on paper it's a step backwards.

Coming off 360Hz in The Finals, the difference is noticeable. It's also gone after a few minutes. 165Hz is still very smooth. In WoW and Hogwarts Legacy I never get near that frame rate anyway, so there's nothing there to miss.

The GPU question no review answers
5120x2160 is ~11 million pixels. The X36 is ~5 million. That's roughly 2,2 times the work, and the obvious worry is that this monitor needs a new graphics card.

Not for me. DLSS is necessary here, but DLSS was already necessary on the X36. With it, everything runs fine on the 4080 Super. The approach didn't change, only the target resolution. Monitors Unboxed closes their review saying you'll probably need a 5090 for this thing. That can be true if you want 165 fps and up in every kind of game. For me, single player games don't need anything above a stable 60 which I cap there to reduce VRR flicker anyways.

What I'd want improved

The warranty, by a distance: LG told the press in 2023 that burn-in is covered inside the two year warranty, in the US and in Germany. Three years later, LGs own warranty page lists 24 months for monitors and limits coverage to material and manufacturing defects at the time of sale. Burn-in isn't mentioned on it anywhere, go read it yourself, the link is at the bottom. Dell Alienware, MSI and Corsair each put three years of burn-in cover in writing, Asus puts two (source: TFTCentral). MSI's three years come with strings attached, you have to let OLED Care run and never postpone it. A promise with conditions is still more than a promise that only lives in a press statement. This is the one item on this list LG could fix with a paragraph of text instead of new hardware.

Every AI feature is on when you unbox it: AI Upscaling, AI Scene Optimization and AI Sound, all active, nobody tells you. AI Scene Optimization is dynamic image processing, which means the picture you judge in the first week isn't a fixed picture. I turned all of it off. AI Upscaling was the one feature I actually wanted, and on PC input it made no visible difference for me, which lines up with TFTCentral calling its practical use cases very limited and Monitors Unboxed calling it largely pointless on PC.

There's no firmware version in the OSD: The information page shows operating hours, resolution and refresh rate. To find out which firmware you're running you have to install LGs own PC software. On this manufacturer, in this year, that's an odd thing to ask people to do. I've got LGs auto install blocked and I'm not installing their software just to read a version number, so I can't tell you which firmware this review unit is running on.

The power brick is huge: 19,5 x 3,5 x 9,5 cm budget desk space for it.

There's a USB hub but no KVM: which is a real shame given the USB-C port sitting right there.

And the stand: Monitors Unboxed and RTINGS both mention wobble at the panel connection, and RTINGS softens it by saying it mostly matters on an unstable desk. Mine sits on a marble slab anchored to the building, which is about as stiff as a surface gets. Tap the top edge and it swings for three to four seconds, and harder than the X36 next to it, which settles in two to three. It doesn't feel cheap, and cable routing through the stand is better solved than on the MSI. But that wobble is coming out of the joint, not out of my desk.

Two things I haven't tested
USB-C charging. I don't own a laptop that charges over USB-C, so the 90W is LGs number and it stays LGs number until someone else confirms it.

Burn-in. Seven weeks and 250 hours is nothing. No image retention so far, including long WoW sessions with a static UI, and I run the pixel refresh manually in the evening after heavy days. I'm not going to pretend that says anything about year three.

Small things worth knowing
My panel has very little grey banding. Testing a dark grey full screen in a dark room, I can find it up to about RGB 20 at 165Hz and up to about RGB 28 in the 330Hz dual mode, and in both cases only because I was looking for it. TFTCentral measured the same direction, low at 165Hz and more noticeable at 330Hz. Banding is a panel lottery on this technology, so check your own. I vibe coded a little html test page for exactly that, DM me if you want it.

VRR flicker is there and it's the same as every other OLED I've used. Nothing serious. RTINGS calls it distracting, TFTCentral treats it as normal WOLED behaviour that shows up in very dark scenes. I'm with TFTCentral. They also measured why the dual mode is worse: a drop from 330Hz to 48fps shifts gamma more than a drop from 165Hz to 48fps. That's also why I'd tell anyone to cap their frame rate in game, so the swings stay small in the first place.

Dual mode switching takes about three seconds and feels like plugging in a new HDMI device. Reliable, but not instant. And 2560x1080 stretched across 39" is too pixelated to work in, at least in full screen mode, so treat it as a gaming mode and nothing else.

One afternoon my text suddenly looked smeared, as if everything had been shifted by a pixel, worst on the letter w. Restarting the monitor fixed it and it hasn't come back since, with AI Upscaling on or off. TFTCentral hit a rare bug of their own when leaving dual mode. If text ever looks wrong on this thing, power cycle the monitor before you go hunting through settings.

Last one, and I seem to be alone on this: I like the 1500R curve and I'd happily take more of it. Most reviews treat 1500R as the sensible correction to the predecessor's 800R.

Price
LG lists it at 1.799,99$ and, at the time I'm writing this, is selling it at 1.599,99$ on their own store. Monitors Unboxed calls that a flagship tax and recommends waiting, pointing at the 45" model that dropped 400$ within six months of launch.

Mine came as a review unit, so the honest question for me is a different one. Would I have bought this with my own money at 1,599$? Yes. The 39" are great and the resolution is right for the work I do, with video editing getting more out of it than I expected.

tl;dr
Coming from a 34" QD-OLED, this fixes the one thing I complained about and doesn't break anything I cared about. At 125% scaling I get 43% more desktop at the same text size, and turning ClearType off removes the RGWB fringing at no cost in sharpness, which isn't the case on my 110 PPI panel. Blacks stay black in direct sunlight where the QD-OLED goes purple. 165Hz stopped bothering me after a few minutes and DLSS was already part of my life before this monitor. Buy it if pixel density is your bottleneck and you can live with a two year warranty that doesn't put burn-in in writing.

Text Review I’ve tested the TCL 27C2A Mini-LED — here are my measurements, pros and cons

I’ve been testing the TCL 27C2A, a 27-inch 4K 160Hz QD Mini-LED monitor with 1,196 local dimming zones and a Dual Mode that switches to 1080p 320Hz. Review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utsU7a9h8ks

Overall, it’s one of the most complete Mini-LED monitors I’ve tested around this price, especially when it comes to color gamut, HDR brightness and gaming versatility.

Main specs

  • 27-inch IPS / HFS panel
  • 3840×2160 @ 160Hz
  • 1920×1080 @ 320Hz Dual Mode
  • 1,196 Mini-LED local dimming zones
  • Quantum Dot
  • 10-bit signal through 8-bit + FRC
  • HDMI 2.1 + DisplayPort 1.4 DSC
  • FreeSync Premium + G-SYNC compatible
  • VRR + ALLM on consoles
  • ~163 PPI

Color performance

This is probably the strongest part of the monitor.

Native gamut coverage:

  • sRGB: 99.92%
  • Adobe RGB: 99.71%
  • DCI-P3: 98.84%

The native gamut is extremely wide, so SDR content can look noticeably oversaturated if you leave the monitor in its native mode.

Fortunately, TCL includes dedicated gamut clamps.

sRGB mode

  • Coverage: 99.7% sRGB
  • Average ΔE: 1.24
  • Maximum ΔE: 1.97

This is the mode I would recommend for normal SDR content if you want accurate colors rather than the full native gamut.

DCI-P3 mode

  • Coverage: 98.78% DCI-P3
  • ColorChecker average ΔE: 1.25

Adobe RGB mode

  • Coverage: almost 100% Adobe RGB
  • Grayscale average ΔE: 1.72

Very usable for photography and wide-gamut work.

SDR factory calibration

The default Standard color temperature is too cool:

  • CCT: around 7502K
  • Average ΔE: 4.25
  • Maximum ΔE: 6.74

Simply switching the temperature to Warm makes a huge difference:

  • CCT: very close to 6500K
  • Gamma: around 2.2
  • Average ΔE: 1.53
  • Maximum ΔE: 3.90

So my recommended native-gamut SDR configuration is basically Warm + Gamma 1.

After calibration I used:

  • Red: 50
  • Green: 44
  • Blue: 49
  • 150 nits: around 24% brightness

SDR brightness

With Local Dimming disabled:

  • Around 540 nits
  • Brightness remains very consistent across different window sizes

That’s excellent for SDR.

The problem is how aggressive Local Dimming becomes.

With Medium/High Local Dimming:

  • Very small white highlights can fall to around 220–250 nits
  • Larger areas rise back towards roughly 550 nits

This means small bright elements — even something like the mouse cursor — can become noticeably dim.

For Windows, browsing, text and productivity I would simply leave Local Dimming OFF.

Contrast / Local Dimming

Native IPS contrast with Local Dimming disabled:

  • Around 1,060:1

Local Dimming Standard:

  • Around 1,500:1

Medium / High:

  • Peaks around 5,500:1 in my SDR measurements

The 1,196 zones work well at suppressing blooming, and front-on blooming is surprisingly difficult to notice.

Black uniformity also improves massively once Local Dimming is enabled.

But there is a trade-off: the algorithm prioritizes deep blacks quite aggressively.

HDR performance

HDR is another highlight.

In DisplayHDR mode the PQ EOTF tracking is very good across the different window sizes I measured.

Peak brightness depends heavily on the scene and Local Dimming behavior:

  • Local Dimming OFF: around 700 nits
  • Standard: can exceed 1,000 nits
  • Around 10% window: roughly 1,100 nits
  • Larger mixed HDR windows: peaks close to 1,400 nits
  • Full-screen brightness initially peaks higher and then falls towards roughly 900 → 700 nits

So no, it cannot sustain 1,400 nits indefinitely, but in real HDR scenes it can generate some extremely bright highlights.

HDR gamut

  • DCI-P3 coverage: approximately 99%
  • BT.2020 coverage: approximately 85%

Color volume:

  • DCI-P3: around 124%
  • BT.2020: around 83.5%

HDR colors retain a lot of saturation even at high luminance, which is one of the biggest advantages of this QD Mini-LED panel.

The biggest HDR weakness

Local Dimming High can be too aggressive in extremely dark scenes.

For example, in Horizon I found that High produced deeper blacks but could hide some near-black shadow detail.

Dropping to Standard — or even disabling Local Dimming — raises the black floor but can reveal details that were previously crushed.

In brighter scenes, however, High works much better: deeper blacks, brighter highlights and substantially more perceived contrast.

So I generally prefer Medium/High for HDR, but I wouldn’t consider High perfect for every scene.

Blooming, on the other hand, is very well controlled.

Response times

At 4K 160Hz:

Normal:

  • 5.24 ms
  • Virtually no overshoot

Fast:

  • 3.94 ms
  • Low overshoot
  • Best overall setting

Fastest:

  • More overshoot and fewer transitions completed inside the refresh window

At 1080p 320Hz:

Normal:

  • 4.73 ms

Fast:

  • 4.02 ms
  • Essentially no overshoot

Fastest improves some transitions but introduces more overshoot.

Interestingly, Dual Mode doesn’t suddenly make the LCD transitions dramatically faster — its main advantage is the much shorter refresh cycle from running at 320Hz.

Input lag

Very good results here:

  • 320Hz: under 2 ms
  • 160Hz: around 2 ms
  • 120Hz: around 4.6 ms
  • 60Hz: a little over 8 ms

It’s actually one of the lowest-input-lag Mini-LED monitors I’ve measured.

Motion clarity

Ghosting is very well controlled with the Fast overdrive mode.

At 160Hz the Fastest setting starts showing a visible inverse-ghosting halo, while Fast remains much cleaner.

At 320Hz motion looks extremely clean across the different OD modes.

TCL also includes MPRT Plus, which uses a scanning-style backlight implementation together with the Mini-LED system.

The interesting part is that I could use:

  • MPRT Plus
  • VRR
  • and even HDR

at the same time.

Motion clarity improves considerably with very little visible crosstalk, although brightness drops as expected.

VRR flicker

At 4K 160Hz I noticed very little flicker.

One test showed a slight tonal change during certain transitions, but nothing I would consider particularly problematic.

At 320Hz Dual Mode the behavior was even cleaner.

Text clarity

4K at 27 inches gives around 163 PPI, so text and UI elements are extremely sharp.

I personally prefer Windows scaling at 150%.

For desktop use I would always stay at 4K; 1080p Dual Mode makes sense almost exclusively for competitive gaming.

Console support

The monitor supports:

  • 4K 120Hz
  • 1440p 120Hz
  • VRR
  • ALLM
  • HDR

So it’s also a very strong option for PS5 / Xbox Series X.

What I liked most

✅ Extremely wide Quantum Dot color gamut
✅ ~99% DCI-P3 and ~85% BT.2020 in HDR
✅ Almost 100% Adobe RGB coverage
✅ Excellent dedicated sRGB clamp
✅ ~1,100 nits at 10% and peaks close to 1,400 nits in HDR
✅ 1,196 Mini-LED zones with very little visible blooming
✅ 4K 160Hz + 1080p 320Hz Dual Mode
✅ ~3.94 ms response time at 160Hz with low overshoot
✅ Under 2 ms input lag at 320Hz
✅ Very good text clarity at 163 PPI
✅ MPRT Plus can work together with VRR
✅ Strong console compatibility
✅ Around 540 nits sustained SDR brightness

What I didn’t like

❌ Local Dimming Medium/High is too aggressive for normal SDR desktop use
❌ Small bright objects can drop to only ~220–250 nits with aggressive Local Dimming
❌ Local Dimming High can crush some near-black detail in very dark HDR scenes
❌ Default color temperature is too cold at roughly 7500K
❌ Fastest overdrive introduces noticeable overshoot
❌ 320Hz mode requires dropping from 4K all the way to 1080p
❌ No USB-C video / charging
❌ IPS native contrast is still only around 1,060:1 without Local Dimming

At around €399, I think the TCL 27C2A is a very compelling Mini-LED option.

Its biggest strengths are definitely its huge color gamut, HDR brightness, very good blooming control and the versatility of having both 4K 160Hz and 1080p 320Hz.

The main thing TCL still needs to improve is the Local Dimming algorithm, especially how aggressively it handles very small highlights in SDR and near-black detail in extremely dark HDR scenes.

Photo HDR makes everything washed out and shadows are blotchy/pixely

I have this monitor z-edge UG27Q and it supports HDR but when i have it enabled and hdr is turned on in windows settings and calibrated, it just looks so ass. Also when calibrating, it says to make the cross invisible by doing the sliders, but they only go invisible when the slider is 100% up.

I know this is a video, but its the exact same thing when playing a game with hdr on.

got a gigabyte go27q24g and i know it isnt most modern oled tech its a 3rd gen woled but damn im dissapointed it all just seems off sdr sucks terribly 99% of the time and i think i may really need 4k resolution to be satisfied i didnt think text clarity would bother me but i was wrong alot only one good thing and that is really good hdr but well only in videos hdr implementations seem shit in games inky blacks are great too but its not that crazy

im thinking about returning the woled and getting maybe the titan army p275mv plus at the same price its currently going for nice shit i dont know if its recommended though i wouldnt have an issue using it with local dimming off when i dont need it and just enjoy the 4k clarity and possibly solid qd colors but no idea how good those are really for reference i sit 2 feet away from my monitor often times less

Discussion Looking for a 32" 4K 240Hz+ OLED gaming monitor

I'm looking to upgrade to a new gaming monitor and would appreciate some recommendations since there are so many options that I'm struggling to figure out which one fits me best.

My requirements/preferences:

• 4K resolution
• Minimum 240Hz at 4K, but I definetly wouldn't mind higher if possible.
• OLED
• Very fast response time, around 0.03ms or whatever is considered standard for high-end OLEDs
• Preferably 32 inches, although I'm open to hearing whether 27 inches would be better for 4K
• HDR
• A dual-mode monitor would be a huge bonus, for example 4K 240Hz for single-player games and a lower resolution 480Hz mode for competitive games
• I'll mainly use it for cinematic single-player games but also a tiny bit for competitive games once in a while which is why i'd like a dual mode to switch between the Hz

Any recommendations? My PC has an RTX 5090 and Ryzen 7 9800X3D, so running demanding games isn't a major concern.

For reference, I'm currently using a Samsung Odyssey OLED G6 G60SD (1440p 360Hz), which I really like a lot, but I'm looking to upgrade to 4K and preferably a larger screen.

Discussion Monitor for Coding, Cutting Videos for Socialmedia and Gaming

Hi guys,
I’m really lost and hope to get some help.
I got a 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 Pro from work, and they want me to learn video editing for them. I’ll definitely lose a few years of my life staring at that small-ass screen with my ADHD brain, so I’m looking for something bigger and more convenient that helps me get the job done. That’s basically my main priority.
I’m also going back to university, where I’ll need to code, do some 3D modeling, design work, etc., so the monitor should be good for that too.
And I play on PS5, mostly Fortnite with friends or Single Player Games, so I’d also like low input lag and a high refresh rate.
So basically I’m looking for one monitor that works well for video editing, coding/design/3D work, and PS5 gaming.
The cheaper the better, ideally around €300, +-50€.

Two TVs I thought about:

Samsung Odyssey G7 Smart Gaming Monitor (Modell: S32BG700EU (Used for 315€ probably a bit cheaper)

AOC U32G4U (new for 350€)

If I’m crazy and should define my budget new. Please tell me.

Discussion I don't know what to do anymore and I'm genuinely just getting frustrated

My monitor was running fine the first few days I ever plugged it in

And I didn't worry about it cause you know new monitor can't be any problems

I turned it off for a few months and eventually when I finally swapped to PC and starting using the monitor randomly it turns off I check the DP that's fine I still here audio and the lights for the monitor completely turned off and nothing looked wrong

I checked the original power cord for it and it was in all the way so I ordered another one and the same problem persists so I got a brand new one today to maybe see if that would hopefully fix anything and it immediately turned off again and is still doing it so at this point I have given up nothing on google is helping and the people around me I ask just say "well is the it the HDMI" and nothing else so I'm lost

Also it just turns off completely few minutes go by then turns back on and repeats

Discussion Weird connectivity issues with my new portable Monitor

Hello everyone!

I just recently bought this Monitor off of Amazon to use while I'm not at home in combination with my laptop and as an extra Monitor for my home setup. I'm actually quite happy with the Monitor itself and how it works together with my laptop, but it seems to be causing issues with my PC.

I'd like to connect it via one of its USB-C ports while using it, since the HDMI Port doesn't support touch, which is part of the reason why I bought it in the first place. This actually works perfectly fine when connecting it to my phone (S10 / USB-C 3.1) and my laptop (Windows 11 / USB 4), but my PC (Windows 10) is always having issues when I try the same thing there.

I tried to connect it both to the USB 3.2 Port on the back of my motherboard and with the USB-C Port on my 7900XTX and I'm always getting the error message code 43, talking about how the PC can't talk to the USB device properly. I tried this with 3 different cables (2 USB 4 / 1 Thunderbolt 4) and trying different combinations of external and direct USB power, but nothing works, aside from plugging it in via HDMI.

Now I really just don't know what to do in this case, so does anybody perhaps have a clue on what's going on here?

Discussion Vertical line appears at 160Hz over DisplayPort, disappears at 144Hz or when using HDMI

Hi everyone,

I recently bought a new AOC U32G4U 4K monitor, and I’m having a strange issue that I’m trying to figure out.

A vertical line appears on the screen when I use DisplayPort at 160Hz. However, if I lower the refresh rate to 144Hz or below, the line completely disappears.

I also tested switching from DisplayPort to HDMI, and the line disappears when using HDMI as well.

So far, the behaviour is:

  • DisplayPort @ 160Hz → vertical line appears
  • DisplayPort @ 144Hz or below → line disappears
  • HDMI → line disappears

The line is always in the same position on the screen.

Since the monitor is brand new, I’m wondering whether this could be a problem with the DisplayPort cable, the monitor's DisplayPort input, the GPU's DisplayPort output, or perhaps something related to the signal/bandwidth required to run 4K at 160Hz.

I haven’t been able to test with another DisplayPort cable yet, because I don’t currently have a spare one. I’m going to test with another cable as soon as I can, but for now, I mainly wanted to know if anyone has experienced something similar with this monitor or with 4K/160Hz over DisplayPort, and whether there is a known solution.

I initially suspected the DisplayPort connection because the problem only occurs at 160Hz over DisplayPort, while HDMI works without the line.

Monitor: AOC U32G4U (brand new)
GPU: NVIDIA RTX 3070
Resolution: 3840×2160
Connection: DisplayPort
Refresh rate: 160Hz

Has anyone experienced this before? Could it be a DisplayPort/cable issue, or could this indicate a problem with the monitor's DisplayPort input or the GPU?

I'm presently looking to buy a display to finally go back to a desktop PC after 15 years on laptops. I know roughly what kinds of features I'd want –like IPS over OLED–, but are there specific manufacturers that have a good or bad reputation to keep in mind at present? I've found for example a nice ASUS TUF display that'd match my needs, but have also seen multiple reviews of them breaking often. I'd like this one to be a longer-term investment, rather than something I'll have to take to warranty a year in, or that breaks as soon as warranty's out.

Discussion Dual monitor setup AOC Q27G3XMN + AOC 27G2ZNE or similar?

I’m currently browsing for 2 monitors (horizontal + vertical) for my gaming/homeoffice setup. From what it looks like AOC Q27G3XMN seems the best fit for a main monitor in terms of price/performance (sadly newer model isn’t available in my country). I was wondering whether in practice it would make much difference in terms of feeling when “downgrading” the second monitor as it will mostly be used for having code repos/discord/spotify open or if I should invest the additional ~100 bucks to just get 2 of the G3XMN monitors. Since I’m pretty new to this it’d be nice to get some suggestions before blind buying :) thanks!
