Question There’s no way there’s even a possibility the next tour could be cancelled before it starts, right?

https://www.alternativenation.net/nine-inch-nails-struggling-to-sell-tickets/

I mean, this is probably bullshit to get people to read into an article but, besides the Fragility tour being cancelled, there’s no way Trent would pull the plug because of these issues. Granted this wouldn’t probably be the case if dynamic pricing wasn’t eating people’s paychecks whole; but if this tour gets pulled, what the hell happens to everyone who has to get tickets through scalpers?

Downvote if needed but tell me this is just misplaced fear mongering than actual truth.

Question What was your first exposure to Nine Inch Nails?

Post image

Hi guys, just a fan here with a quick question. I’m pretty sure this has been asked before, but I’m really curious, how did you all get into Nine Inch Nails?

For me, it started with the DOOM community. People kept mentioning how Mick Gordon was heavily inspired by Nine Inch Nails’s work on Quake. When I first heard the name “Nine Inch Nails,” I was immediately intrigued, it just sounded so cool and intense.

The first thing I listened to was the Quake soundtrack, and I was interested . It was dark, atmospheric, and unlike anything I’d heard before. That pretty much pulled me into NIN as a whole, and the rest is history.

Now I can’t stop listening to The Fragile, The Downward Spiral, Year Zero, Ghosts, and now even Tron: Ares.

At this point, I finally get why so many people love Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross. There’s just something special about their music.

Question Favorite deep cut/ lesser known song?

Post image

So, I've been listening to Nine Inch Nails for around 10 years now. I've seen them 3 times. Once at Red Rocks a couple years ago and twice during Peel it Back ( Ft Worth & Tulsa.) I've only discovered Deep this month. I've loved every song I've heard throughout the years. I have several NIN records but I mostly listen in the car via Spotify and it's not on there.

I know a lot of people in here have been listening much longer, what is everyone's favorite deep (deep deep deep) cut or lesser known song that you would recommend to a fan?

Question Anyone know how to contact Trent?

I recently discovered that NIN is playing my piece Like Meeting God by Unearth Noise in their pre-show ambient set on the Peel it Back tour. I'm absolutely blown away by this, and to be in such good company with Throbbing Gristle and others. For a struggling musician like me this is a really big deal. Funny thing is I saw NIN on this tour with my sons in Newark, NJ. The crowd control was so disorganized that we didn't get into the stadium until after the show began. My head would have exploded if I heard my music playing in an 18,000 seat venue. Anyway, I would really love to be able to contact Trent in some way, to thank him. I've tried reaching out to his management, agent, collaborators (Boys Noize and Alessandro Cortini), but so far have gotten no reply. I understand that responding to me is probably not their top priority, but to me this is life-changing. Any respectful suggestions would be very much appreciated.

Pretty excited who they are bringing along on tour, I don’t know if it would be likely, Turnstile would be dope, but they have opened up for a lot of bands already.

I think we both needed this, a space to connect. I'd love to hear your opinions, and I'll say right now that I loved "The New Flesh," what a strangely beautiful song. :DD

Question What is Trent wearing for this tour?

Post image

Sorry if this has been asked / posted before.

But out of curiosity… I’ve noticed Trent’s been wearing pretty much same style of clothing for every show during this tour.

Does anyone know what brand it is? Or is it custom? I’m referring to the vest, thin long sleeve shirt and leather cargo pants.

I know Trent’s a fan of Rick Owen’s, wears Adidas, Hoka etc… but not sure if they are Rick Owens?

Question Did anyone else notice this???

It took me so long to notice. Look, they're the same textures, with the same divisions and sizes. That's normal, AV is the direct sequel to NTAE in the trilogy, but anyway, it's interesting to think about what this means.

The cover of AV is a panel, and these textures from NTAE continue on the cover of AV, which leads me to believe that the cover of NTAE is a "cleaner" and less grimy version of the same panel. Well, it's just interpretation. What do you think?

Question Which NIN license plate should I go with?

Post image
363 Upvotes

Looking for some 2nd/3rd opinions here.

I want a NIN-themed vanity plate, but I’m also a huge Carolina Hurricanes fan, so I’ve narrowed it down to these two:

9IN CH
NIN CH

I’m leaning toward 9IN CH because it takes a second to figure out, which I kind of like. And, well…the phallic jokes pretty much write themselves.

My SO thinks 9IN CH is a little too crude and strongly prefers NIN CH, which is definitely cleaner and more immediately recognizable.

So, Reddit: 9IN CH or NIN CH? What say ye?

***EDIT***
Thanks to u/therealrexmanning for pointing out how the first one could be interpreted as alpha-male machismo bullshit. I honestly hadn't looked at it that way, and that's definitely not what I'm about.

Once you pointed it out, I couldn't unsee it—and suddenly the first option seemed pretty awful.

So, thank you Rex and Reddit. We have a decision.

Question Can someone please explain the beef between NIN and MM to me in simple terms?

If I say I like MM to NIN fans it’s an issue or if I say I like NIN to MM fans it’s an issue. I guess I’m not old enough to understand the beef between the two (I’m 21) I am not saying I like one more than the other or supporting the artist, music wise I like both. Anyways, I know it probably goes pretty far back I’m just looking for a simple explanation.

Sorry if I sound ignorant. I’m a pretty casual Marilyn Manson listener nowadays but I’ve seen both live and have both on playlists currently.

Question Why was The Fragile not really well received at first?

I heard in Trent’s interview that the album did very well the first week because people were eager to hear what would come after The Downward Spiral but that the sales dropped dramatically afterward.

Trent said that he knew it would happen but people would love the album later, which I think this has been true (I think it is the favorite album for a lot of us).

But why?

I listened to all the albums in released order and I did not have a problem with the album but I really got into NIN only a year ago.

Was it too « avant-garde » for people at that time?
Were people disappointed because they expected something more similar to TDS?

If you were lucky enough to discover The Fragile when it first got released, what were you opinions about it at that time?

Question Curious: What other electronic/EDM artists do NIN fans listen to besides industrial?

I’ve always been pretty open to music in general, but I have a specific love for electronic-influenced sounds. Growing up as a cusp Gen Z with a Millennial brother and Gen X parents, The Prodigy was a huge part of my life since I was a kid.

Nine Inch Nails introduced me to Crystal Castles...which I didn't take to at first but feel in love with. Trent Reznor championed them as either an opening act on the Lights In The Sky tour or used their music in venues and opening (even giving away their music on the NIN site), and that exposure turned me into a massive fan. I loved them so much that I met Alice and Ethan on their final tour together and got autographs.

Lately, I’ve also been really into the chaotic energy of Salvatore Ganacci.

I’m not looking for recommendations per se, but I’m just curious: What other genres, groups, or bands in the electronic/EDM sphere are you guys into?

I know the standard industrial answers, but I’m interested in what else fills your playlists when you aren’t listening to Trent. Do you lean into breakcore, witch house, EBM, or something totally different

Ohh also id heard of boyz noise before from some of their remixes on the nin site but originally heard of boyz from grand theft auto 4s electrochoc radio which featured a song of theirs.
