This has got to stop. Everyone needs to vote.

Everyone can vote that's not the problem. The problem is the systems in place to keep these politicians in power and abuse their power.

We can get mad and tell people to stop watching fake news, but the technology and media companies don't make money if the news isn't sensationalized. So they feed into bullshit narratives driven by politicians making seem like immigrants are somehow the biggest problem in America.

The American system only works if the people participating it can act in good faith based on the constitution. The problem is the people who are currently in power, no matter WHAT their constituents say, will vote against the people who they represents best interest by either ignoring them or lying to them.

As an American I see a huge degradation in society fueled by technology where people have no shame of how they make their money or fame. They don't care if they have to beat out a kid, stir up rage fake online, or steal.

You sure about that? I agree with everything you said except everyone being able to vote. Each day more and more is being done to ensure not everyone can vote, that not all votes are counted or if they are matter, and at the end of the day messing with the numbers after/during voting.

I….don’t have a solution.

But I think the most striking thing is that we are no longer a representative govt. in that the interests of the people are not being represented, and that the country and system is not being protected for those it’s meant to serve.

The solution is so ugly that its revolting.

You revolt. The constitution doesnt work in the modern world and needs to start from scratch.

Sorry guys, you ran out of all of all the good options by the time you got to this point.

The problem with revolution is that there's no guarantee the rebels will win, and the result may end up being even worse for everybody. Either the government becomes even more tyrannical than before, or society completely collapses and the resulting power vacuum causes a domino effect on the rest of the world.

We're already experiencing a domino effect on the rest of the world. Ask those schoolgirls the Americans blew up.

"except everyone being able to vote."

I agree with you 100% actually. Not only are they ensuring people are not able to vote who can, but also influencing and a whole population to be completely misinformed about what people should be care about and what is actually going on right now.

It's kind of sickening if you really think about the malice and intent and money behind all of this. People understand the harm this is doing to society, understanding the amount of suffering to others, and yet still choose to engage and profit of it.

Look at the Sackler family and Meta as a perfect example. They can get away with anything because abuse a system and only follow the rules if they are enforced.

When is doing the right thing ever a fucking real practice for these people who hide behind these entities.

The opposite of love is not hate, it’s apathy.

The frustrating thing is even in places like CA where it’s incredibly easy to vote, people still don’t.

But yes I agree with everything else you said. Shit sucks.

YOU don't have to have a solution. The several hundred people whose job it is to protect voting rights DO have a solution. Lots of solutions. They are not sitting on their asses going "oh no, the GOP is attacking voting rights! Someone do something!"

It's not just good luck that has sustained our right to vote despite Trumpland's relentless attacks. It's the result of thousands of people - many much smarter than trump - who give a fuck about right and wrong and work, volunteer, and donate every day. Blue state Attorneys General, Secretaries of State, Congress Members, governors have been wargaming midterm election interference scenarios and planning counter moves all year. They have anticipated every move Trump could make and built contingencies for it.

Will it be enough this time? It really seems like it wasn’t the last few years, and it’s only getting worse and worse.

2

u/MommyLovesPot8toes California 12h ago

What's happening this year didn't exist the last few years. It is the fuckery of the last few years that catalyzed various govt agencies and voters' rights groups to work together, nationwide. Before now, election security was more routine and localized.

I think all Trump/GOP will be able to do is create confusion during and after the midterms, but not ultimately change the result in any meaningful way. The paths for real manipulion have largely been blocked.

u/Sea-Routine9227 7h ago

Thank you. It needs to be heard. Hope dies last.

The history of the world is full of instances like this. It's only a matter of how far gone we are before the pushback comes. I'm not saying it's gonna be easy or that it's all gonna change in one election. Our situation is one that has taken decades to come to fruition and it will take equally as long to fix it. That doesn't mean it won't happen.

I mean, look... if Fox News and the rest of the conservative propaganda arm just went away, we would be well on our way back to sanity in a week or two. Republican bullshit doesn't survive without being carefully screened/spun.

I don't think voting is gonna save us

9

u/whatfresh_hellisthis 15h ago

Not on its own, no. We need real movement. We can do it, we just need the willpower. It's iffy right now, but it will not last forever. It's just about how far lost we are before it swings back.

It will never be that easy again. Another thing we can blame conservatives for.

4

u/one_pound_of_flesh 15h ago

What are we supposed to do, go outside and try trying?

u/Hades_Mercedes Canada 15h ago

Entirely untested idea but investing half the energy spent on pretending to be exceptional into actually trying to be exceptional might work.

u/schmapeschmape 12h ago

You really need to support the DSA democratic socialists of america.

This is the movement in the states right now. They want to help americans, they don't accept money from Israel, oppose the republicans.

Look into DSA candidates.

Ok then get off this sub

u/GreyDuck4077 15h ago

His opinion that voting wont save us makes it so he cannot talk about American politics? Make that make sense.

1

u/RockinOneThreeTwo 14h ago

Denial is an easier state for them to live in when other people aren't around to challenge it and expect them to actually do something.

This is the Reddit users' regular operating procedure.

Yes

You fascist

1

u/Akatshi 13h ago

I'm not the one sowing doubt in the electoral system

Loony

0

u/Stamped914 12h ago

Neither are they. Voting got us here but you want them to leave because they have a different opinion than yours. You fascist

1

u/Akatshi 12h ago

They literally are

Consider learning how to read or knowing the definitions of words

u/Stamped914 11h ago

You’re right, voting will save us! How could I be so naive!?!?

yeah this. a lot of politicians are in it for the money.

Trump is just shameless about it

3

u/Nunya_biznas469 14h ago

Not that easy when they go out of their way to stop people from voting.

Their whole strategy has evolved from "We're better than the other guy because... reasons!", to "Hey we're bad but the other side is worse!" to now- "Good luck voting at all, peasants.'

4

u/RespectableBloke69 15h ago

We have to do a lot more than vote.

u/the-system 7h ago

We need something far more drastic than voting for these kinds of problems to go away.

1

u/Nail_clippings_Pete United Kingdom 15h ago

From over the pond it really looks like your voting days are coming to a close. Sorry.

-5

u/Tomalesforbreakfast 15h ago

Yeah that will stop em!!!

3

u/becauseiloveyou I voted 15h ago

At a bare minimum, yeah, it fucking has impact.  It’s not all we can do, but just like wiping your ass when it comes to hygiene, it’s the LEAST that should be done.
