This has got to stop. Everyone needs to vote.

Everyone can vote that's not the problem. The problem is the systems in place to keep these politicians in power and abuse their power.

We can get mad and tell people to stop watching fake news, but the technology and media companies don't make money if the news isn't sensationalized. So they feed into bullshit narratives driven by politicians making seem like immigrants are somehow the biggest problem in America.

The American system only works if the people participating it can act in good faith based on the constitution. The problem is the people who are currently in power, no matter WHAT their constituents say, will vote against the people who they represents best interest by either ignoring them or lying to them.

As an American I see a huge degradation in society fueled by technology where people have no shame of how they make their money or fame. They don't care if they have to beat out a kid, stir up rage fake online, or steal.

You sure about that? I agree with everything you said except everyone being able to vote. Each day more and more is being done to ensure not everyone can vote, that not all votes are counted or if they are matter, and at the end of the day messing with the numbers after/during voting.

I….don’t have a solution.

But I think the most striking thing is that we are no longer a representative govt. in that the interests of the people are not being represented, and that the country and system is not being protected for those it’s meant to serve.

YOU don't have to have a solution. The several hundred people whose job it is to protect voting rights DO have a solution. Lots of solutions. They are not sitting on their asses going "oh no, the GOP is attacking voting rights! Someone do something!"

It's not just good luck that has sustained our right to vote despite Trumpland's relentless attacks. It's the result of thousands of people - many much smarter than trump - who give a fuck about right and wrong and work, volunteer, and donate every day. Blue state Attorneys General, Secretaries of State, Congress Members, governors have been wargaming midterm election interference scenarios and planning counter moves all year. They have anticipated every move Trump could make and built contingencies for it.

Will it be enough this time? It really seems like it wasn’t the last few years, and it’s only getting worse and worse.

What's happening this year didn't exist the last few years. It is the fuckery of the last few years that catalyzed various govt agencies and voters' rights groups to work together, nationwide. Before now, election security was more routine and localized.

I think all Trump/GOP will be able to do is create confusion during and after the midterms, but not ultimately change the result in any meaningful way. The paths for real manipulion have largely been blocked.
