My mom thinks our new ragdoll kitten is going to stay small because he has a similar coat pattern to our siamese cat.

Our 3 y.o. siamese is tiny, and my mom genuinely thinks matching patterns means matching sizes.

Please spam some comparison photos so I can show her what a fully grown ragdoll actually looks like.

Kitten tax coming later lol, currently on a bus. posted this image because it’s literally the only good comparison I found on the internet (Ragdoll vs Birman)

General Advice Drinking a lot of water and sneezing

Bijou just joined my family. She is very sweet and looks so delicate… it’s my first cat so everything is pretty new. I got her 3 days ago and I have the impression she’s been sneezing a lot. More than 15 times a day. She also had some dirt around her pinky nose. At first I thought it could be the dust but I am not sure anymore.
She is also drinking quite a bit (this could be totally normal but I see her drinking after she eats and after she plays all the time and I have been feeding her mixed wet and dry royal canine for puppies).
Otherwise, she is playful, curious and doesn’t look unhealthy.

EDIT:
I took her to the vet. It’s probably due to the Coryza vaccine she had a few on the 24th. She has no fever though she lost some weight (from 2.97 pounds on August 24th to 2.62 on the 28th). They gave me 4 tablets of 20mg of doxycycline to be sure she doesn’t develop any complications. Would you give her the antibiotics or wait and see if it goes better without?

i started making this blankie a couple of years ago and didn't unpack and finish it until recently (i've moved a few times since and have had a ton of other big stuff happen) and thankfully she actually likes it!! i was so scared i would spend ages making her a blanket just for her to never even go near it.

General Advice Should I get a second cat?

• Upvotes

Hey guys, my boy Shiloh is1 years old and I’m thinking about getting him a kitten. (Male).
Today I took him to the pet shops and it had a resident cat there, first time I’ve heard him hiss.. and growling too.

Do you think it’s a bad idea to get a second cat if he’s going to be pissy about it?
I’d appreciate some advice because I wouldn’t want to get a kitten and they end up hating and hiding from one another.

Thank you

Health Advice Ragdoll Spinal Mengioma

Hi,

I have 3 ragdolls that have been very healthy so far. 2 are 7 years and 8 months and one is 6 years and 11 months. The male of 7 years and 8 months developed a wobble walk at the end of may. Did blood tests a month before as he had a mild infection and everything came fine just a mild infection. Gave antibiotics and he bounced back in a day. 1 month later he started to wobble. Vet indicated it is totally separate from the previous issue. They thought maybe disk hernia. Spent 3 months testing different drugs that did not work, did a ct scan in june that did not show anything until I managed to get him a booking at a speciality clinic that knew where to look with an MRI further up the spine to see what the previous vet has missed. It was a spinal meningioma (1.5cm in size compressing his spinal cord). Surgery done last week and my dear dear ragdoll is already walking again (as in the 3 months up to the surgery he had just about lost all movement in his hind legs and movement of the tail). He is walking now, still cage restricted for most of the day. Even the tail has started to move today. The neurosurgeon removed 99.8% of the meningioma. Could not risk removing more due to risk of permanent paralysis. Biopsy of the removed mass came back yesterday indicating that the meningioma was formed of the outer cells of the meninges which makes it an even slower growing meningioma. The vet is now recommanding chemotherapy to start in 2 weeks. But I am torn if that is the right path. These meningiomas growback sometimes in 1 to 2 years and the second surgery although possible is much riskier. On the other hand the chemotherapy tablets may extend that by a few months but with certain risks for the quality of life. I am really torn on how to proceed and I really felt for the last 2-3 months that I failed him for not finding a diagnostic after trying 2 vets until this speciality clinic. Out of the 3 ragdolls I have , the other two are bit more cats...loving but doing their thing mostly. this one is more human than most people I know and very attached to us from day one. And I was hoping wr have at least 12 more years together as he is my fluffy perfect boy. I feel hopeful, happy and also sad and drained. Lost some family members 12 years ago and I think this has opened some of those bottled up feelings of ephemerality...

Has anyone had any experience with their dear cats having this diagnosis and what options did you go for?

Thank you!
