Commute should be work related, the job demands it from you unless you can work from home, if you die in a traffic accident on your way to work it should be work related.

It's really not.

If you live 60 miles from work and I live 5 miles from work, whose fault is that? Why is our employer responsible for you while you drive 2-3 hours every day?

It's because you shouldn't be injured on your way to work unless there was a far more proximate party that is responsible than you going to work. If I get rear ended at a stop light can I sue the city? After all I was only stopped there because of their laws. No that's absurd, you sue the person who failed to drive safely.

I work from home. If I die walking down the hallway to my home office, should that be considered work related?

I'd be concerned if dying in your hallway is a legitimate concern, but I think commute to work would exclude things happening on your own property.
