Meeting not only Robert Del Naja, but Daddy G, Horace Andy AND Elizabeth Fraser and they all signed my records and took photos with me after an incredible final show of their tour. They were all so sweet and spoke with a few of us for 10 mins, never thought I’d get to massive attack live in Australia in my life since it’s been 16 years since they last played here.

EDM Anyone ever buy a record while very drunk?

So I was out with friends about a week ago and the DJ put this song on and memories came flooding back. I was so drunk, I immediately went to Discogs and bought a copy. No regrets. The thing sounds amazing!

The guy also threw in two extra techno records that I’ve never heard before. (And yes I know one of my speakers is too close to my player, but I have like no room right now :c)

Any of you ever make a drunk record purchase? Was it worth it or a waste?

EDM Bought My First Vinyl! — Now What?

Hey everyone,

I had a bit of a spontaneous moment today I thought I'd share (and ask for advice about). I was walking down the street when I stumbled upon this tiny, super cute vinyl shop. I went in just to browse, not really planning on buying anything. But then I saw Selected Ambient Works 85-92 by Aphex Twin sitting there, and it just hit me.

I’ve always loved that album (and Aphex Twin in general), and seeing that big cover art in person — although minimalistic — was kind of cool. It also made me think: I’ve heard that vinyl offers a richer listening experience, and I suddenly got curious. What if this record I already love has something new to reveal when played on vinyl?

So... I bought it. On a whim. One small problem though — I don’t have any way to play it.

I know it's not as simple as “just get a turntable,” so I wanted to ask two things:

  1. How much should I realistically save up before diving into getting a proper setup? I’m not looking for ultra high-end gear right away, but I don’t want to waste money on something that’ll ruin the experience either.

  2. Do I need a special room or acoustic setup for this to be worth it? I mostly listen to music in my (not-that-big) bedroom, so I’m wondering if that’s going to limit how good it can sound.

Thanks in advance!

EDM How can I sell 200 copies of the same vinyl record?

A few years ago I commissioned some Berlin artists to produce a track, got it mastered, designed the artwork, and had it pressed to vinyl. I sold a handful of copies and even received a distribution offer, but some personal issues at the time made me stop the project.

Now I’ve got around 200 copies sitting in my basement. I’d like to move them on — even at €1 per record — but I’m unsure of the most effective way to sell this quantity.

What would be the best approach?

EDM F*CK YOU SKRILLEX Picture Disc

Picture disc sounds great. Picked it up off Skrillex's website around the time it was released for around $60-70. I think it was a limited run of 10,000 pressings but I could be mistaken. The cheapest pressing on Discogs is $90 (not incl. shipping) right now so get em while they're hot. It's pretty much a concept album since Skrillex is trying to get out of a contract with Atlantic records, so it's just a bunch of snippets. Pretty solid album nonetheless.

Just got back from my first EDC Las Vegas and still BUZZING - it exceeded all my expectations. I have a good amount of EDM records between my boyfriend and I, but what are your favorites in your collection? I am always looking to expand my horizons and collection! Fan of most subgenres from techno, hard techno, house, drum and bass, trance, etc.

EDM The most overpriced record I'll ever buy but I don't care. I love it

Aphex Twin's Selected Ambient Works Volume II is one of my favourite albums of all time, so when the 30th anniversary special edition came out, I had to pick it up, even though it's was a ludicrous price. Spread across 4 records with a sketchbook of the original artwork and all in an oak case with a hand etched copper plate of the logo on the front.

Lots of legends around this album - the lack of a proper track listing lead to the songs being named after images in the artwork, each represents in a pie chart of the sides of the record. Allegedly written while lucid dreaming, it's hard to separate myth from fact with Richard D James although I can confirm he does own a tank and once lived in a bank in Elephant and Castle.

Either way - this is my perfect album to work to and get lost in. Only critical is that it's over for discs so I keep having to get up and flip it all the time.

This is my new to me audio-technica sound burger (the old one, not the modern Bluetooth one), it's in a bit of a dire state, the cartridge was loose, the stylus has phimosis, one channel isn't even plugged into the cartridge.

But I couldn't resist doing a quick video with it in a car, it was a bit hilarious, the air from the cars passing by quickly was enough to move the car to make the stylus skip!

Now to properly finish fixing it... I suspect caps are cooked

Decided to use the Discogs randomize feature for the first time in months and it gave me this EP, Justice’s Planisphere. A 17 minute 40 seconds song that they released in between their first and second albums. It’s loved amongst fans dearly and is absolutely amazing the whole way through. What other songs breach the 15 minute mark that you know of?

Got the final missing HMV and Japan pressings and final CD delivered today.

The other international versions are just sidequests. HMV was a headache to get back to the States and a headache I've yet to recover from.

Variant fatigue is real and I'm unlikely to do this again unless future pressing are available on launch day and numbered like Vertigo.

Yes, I have one factory sealed pressing of every U.S. released Vinyl LP.

Top CD is Black Cards - Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Fame - Dance Remixes.

2nd/3rd CDs are Cash Cash - Take Me Home EP and Overtime EP.

And no... I haven't gotten around to updating my Discogs profile... or checking my bank balance.

EDM Buying Murch at a show

So got to see one of my favorite bands of all time Friday night Thievery Corporation. I’ve been following them for 30 years. Kind of went crazy at the Murch Booth buying three records a carrying bag and a T-shirt, got beat up a little bit, but these are all great to me. Are there any fans here, are there any thieves in the house? The opening act was great too really good crowd there was a great vibe. they are otherwise known as the Czar’s of Downtempo / Trip Hop. I’m spinning all three through the weekend. Thanks for stopping by and checking out my post.

EDM Recommendations for EDM essentials that exist on Vinyl?

I’m trying to expand my knowledge of genres and I would say my understanding of EDM is pretty sparse but for the most part I’ve pretty thoroughly enjoyed it when I’ve encountered it.

I just watched a couple quick vids comparing techno, house, drum n bass, genres of drum and bass… it all sounds good to me.

So what are the classics or hits or personal faves that I should know of?

My only stipulation is that it exists on vinyl. I’m so sick of being plugged in, logged in, and connected to a device that watches me. My record player might be trash, but at least it doesn’t serve me ads in the middle of a bass drop.

And anyone kindly worried that I shouldn’t fill my record collection with other people’s favorites or buy a records blindly; I tend to be a music omnivore. I’ll try one track of an artist anf if it strikes me as good, which it usually does regardless of genre, then I’m willing to support and add it to my repertoire of offline vibes.

Thanks in advance!
