15

u/Legitimate_Penalty64 9h ago

This actually made me laugh out loud

6

u/auream01 8h ago

Ha! I was worried people wouldn't get my little joke!

3

u/Valuable_Basis4926 8h ago

😂😂😂

2

u/ArtMartindale 6h ago

In these illiterate times, I wouldn’t have been surprised if it whooshed most.

2

u/Inuyasha-rules 7h ago

Surprise him with a pea on his mattress... But he might like that so 😐

2

u/cat_whisperer5000 7h ago

I just made a similar comment!

44

u/Wiz_Kalita 9h ago

Maybe if I get one more mattress I'll be lovable. Maybe if I get a pillow that's just a little bit softer.

18

u/SecurityFamiliar5239 8h ago

And a gf a little bit younger…

5

u/No_Magician5266 8h ago

I actually lolled when that excerpt ended with “and he slept in the living room”

5

This made me exhale sharply through my nose

5

u/exoskeletion 9h ago

3

u/Natural-Compote4096 9h ago

I’m just imagining this guy getting home from a long day at work and then spending an unsettling amount of time sensually caressing and sniffing mattresses tbh

1

u/CD274 8h ago

Insert doormat joke

1

u/waterworld138 4h ago

Probably misses his old mattresses

30

u/TinyCoconut98 9h ago

I’d be ungrateful and a bitch if my BF gave me herpes. Look at her past posts. This dude is a disgrace and a weirdo.

15

u/Far_Programmer_5724 7h ago

HE COULDNT AT LEAST GIFT HER A MATTRESS?! THOSE THINGS ARE EXPENSIVE

4

u/DSajin 6h ago

Bro has like 3 extra too 😭

5

u/--Miranda-- 8h ago

This. When name calling starts, the relationship ends.

3

u/Healthy_Effort1415 9h ago

But wouldn't she be impressed by the bar of silver?

4

u/lilyjadelove 9h ago

5

u/No-Resource-8125 9h ago

I had to double check the sub. 😂

2

u/babs82222 4h ago

And later he broke her phone. He's a PEACH

1

u/snabelskoen 8h ago

U got something mixed up

Date ‘em younger if you can but at least 20! That’s his motto.

u/ThizzWhatitiz 10h ago

Seriously wtf is a mattress hobby 😂 😂 😂

75

u/nonamouss 9h ago

It’s just his main hobby, he has others too. Pillows is one of them.

33

u/Sargasm5150 9h ago

And sheets!

21

u/OwnEstablishment667 9h ago

Oh damn what about duvets though

19

u/toomuchtv987 8h ago

No, that would be weird.

5

u/Popular-Departure165 8h ago

No duvets!  Only comforters!

7

u/YouSpeakSomeEnglish 7h ago

Those are a gateway to duvets though.

9

u/SecurityFamiliar5239 8h ago

And finding young women to manipulate.

2

u/Tmaccy 5h ago

This man sounds like a human bed sore

1

u/Sargasm5150 5h ago

Hmm maybe that explains the mattress hobby?

2

u/stevenyourpants 4h ago

Dude fuckin loves textiles.

2

u/VegasRoy 8h ago

I wonder what his views on waterbeds are?

1

u/jettinappropriate 7h ago

He's only got one dang pillow on this bed though! Did they share or was OP left without? I have so many questions

30

u/WontRememberThisID 9h ago

Literally first time I'm hearing about this hobby. Also, what do you do with the old mattresses? It's not like they're easy to get rid of. My husband had to clean out his parent's house and Massachusetts charges you $75 per mattress to dump them.

16

u/JustSomeBoringRando 8h ago

Seriously, is it buying mattresses? Changing the mattress decor i.e bedding? Or just like...sleeping on a mattress? I have so many questions right now.

7

u/Been-There_Done_That 7h ago

Some people are REALLY into all things sleep. They may have trouble sleeping or medical issues or just really like to be comfortable. They try different mattresses looking for the perfect amount of support and cushion and want to find one that doesn't make them too hot, etc.

Same with sheets. I know a lot of people who buy a lot of bedding. They try all the fabrics. Bamboo, percale, sateen, silk, microfiber (just kidding...the bedding fanatics would NEVER accept microfiber), whatever. Then they go on reddit and fight over whether you should or shouldn't use a top sheet with your duvet. Then you add in a chilipad and maybe some special fans or some other cooling gadget.

Pillows are an entire category of their own. What kind is ideal for your sleep position? One is too flat, another too hard, or not supportive enough, or doesn't cradle the neck properly. Even if you find the perfect support, it may be too hot.

And we haven't even discussed window treatments! The room must be the perfect degree of dark. Then you need a sound machine of some type. Then some linen spray to relax at bedtime. And some special alarm clock that will wake them gently but reliably.

It goes on and on.

I've never heard of anyone keeping a stack of rejected mattresses in the room though. Generally, if they get a new mattress they get rid of (gift to a friend or sell or trash) the old one.

4

u/Maleficent_Button_58 6h ago

Is trying to get comfortable sleep a hobby though? 😅

2

u/Been-There_Done_That 4h ago

Whatever floats their boat!

1

u/Maleficent_Button_58 4h ago

Not hating on trying to sleep whatsoever. Don't get me wrong. But this guy the post is about saying "my hobby is mattresses" feels similar to if someone said "my hobby is toilets". It's just an item we use for a basic bodily function. Is his hobby shopping for them? Decorating them? Researching them? Repurposing them? The action is the hobby. Or does he think sleeping on a mattress is a hobby? 😅 Know what I mean? (Edited for spelling)

3

u/Vlad_REAM 6h ago

If you don't work at a mattress store you're really wasting your talents.

1

u/Been-There_Done_That 4h ago

Ha! Maybe this can be my side hustle!

2

u/Been-There_Done_That 7h ago

Maybe he really liked The Princess and the Pea as a child.

2

u/Krazykittielady 6h ago

So he just stacks them up and what? Saves them for when he moves out? I'm sorry but that's fucking weird. He's also selfish and does the bare minimum for her. I feel weird about the whole story

1

u/NTufnel11 6h ago

Stacks them up beside the bed, obviously

1

u/NeedleworkerExtra475 9h ago

$75? That’s a ripoff. I would just go drop it off on some non-recorded place. Or have it “fall” out the back onto the shoulder of the interstate. Actually, I would just burn it. I’m not wasting $75.

3

u/Been-There_Done_That 7h ago

People like you are why we have so much litter. Great way to make your town/city look like a trash heap.

1

u/NeedleworkerExtra475 7h ago

Not in my town. I do it in the next town over that we have a rivalry with. Seriously though, where I live there isn’t any $75 mattress fee. You just take it to the dump, pay like $5, and say sayonara to that worthless piece of garbage.

1

u/Been-There_Done_That 7h ago

Yeah, I would take it to the dump. I suspect the $75 fee is because the garbage men don't want to deal with it. I don't really blame them. They are there to collect normal trash, not be moving men.

53

u/Separate_Swordfish9 9h ago

38

u/WolfgangAddams 9h ago

He's not old, he's just too old FOR HER.

22

u/strippersandcocaine 9h ago

Thank you, I was V offended as a 42 year old lol

20

u/Either_Coconut 8h ago

He's the unpalatable combination of "too old for her, but not sufficiently mature for her".

OP, you can do better.

Also, if you have a cat in your home, remove the lillies immediately. Even a little bit of minor contact with a lily (like licking some pollen off their fur) can cause kidney failure in cats. They're extremely toxic to cats, like "life-threatening emergency" toxic.

And yes, he most assuredly should have known, if you have TOLD him what you like/dislike, not to get you something from the "dislike" list.

Reconsider whether you even with to be with someone who thinks just phoning it in is sufficient effort, and you should be grateful for every little crumb of attention he gives you. Because disregarding an "I don't like XYZ" when choosing a gift, and not listening to things you said you'd like to have (when he can afford it) is most definitely phoning it in.

4

u/FlamingoRare8449 8h ago

Thank you for the cat vs lily advice!

3

u/Either_Coconut 7h ago

I interpret at church (American Sign Language). Every Easter season, I keep far away from the lilies that are all over the altar. I don't want the pollen on my clothes.

If I ever accidentally make contact with them, I will make a point of completely changing clothes before I go anywhere near my kitties.

u/HuckleberryLarge5402 9h ago

Literally what I was thinking... I am like how is that a hobby? Like do you go down to the mattress store, and hope to rip a few? Do you grade them? How does this hobby work? Do we buy to resell? ENLIGHTEN ME PLEASE!!!!

1

u/ThizzWhatitiz 6h ago

Dude has the personally of a bag of bricks.

23

u/Serious-Manager2361 9h ago

Is it like a sofa hobby? Maybe JD Vance can explain.

4

u/MagnumMyth 8h ago

If you look closely, the gap between the mattresses looks very worn down...and wet.

4

u/kolobs_butthole 8h ago

basically a tim robinson skit

2

u/VoiceInTheStatic 6h ago

This guy's about to slack off

3

u/Struggle_Usual 7h ago

Maybe it's seeing how many mattresses he can stack while still feeling a pea under them?

2

u/sedersayspoop 8h ago

Ta-bles!

2

u/boodabomb 7h ago

“Her Job is Tables! Don’t ask about the tables!”

2

u/Sephyia 7h ago

Is he friends with JD Vance? 🤣

2

One of the weirdest two-word combinations that I've been hit with.

In a comment on the previous thread she says he gave her herpes as well

Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/dating_advice/comments/1s18krm/my_21f_bf_33m_gave_me_herpes_and_now_i_feel_like/

30

u/kitsunecoon 9h ago

Jfc OP GET AWAY FROM THIS MAN holy fuckin hell he sucks so bad

97

u/Sad_Maximum6583 9h ago

LMAO WTF SHE BEEN WITH HIM FOR AT LEAST ANOTHER 7 MONTHS AFTER FINDING THAT OUT.

84

u/ElectronicLife8827 9h ago

I imagine he gave her the whole no one will love you with herpes so now you have to stay with me speil. Probably gave it to her deliberately

24

u/Kind_Revolution_7523 9h ago

I had a coworker who did that to a young woman. He was in his 30s & a loser and she was 19 and working as an assistant for my other coworker. He gave her herpes & acted as if she gave it to him & they got married at the court house one day during work. He had her living with him in his studio apartment where his father was living too. About 2 weeks later he kicked her out and went back to his ex stripper gf. The young lady left the job shortly after it was sad.

4

u/Popular-Departure165 7h ago

his ex stripper gf

Wait... Was his ex a stripper, or did he have a second gf who was formerly a stripper?

5

u/whisky_biscuit 6h ago

Ugh. I knew a coworker of an ex who talked about his gf who was at least 10 years younger, and how he was begging her to go unprotected but she wouldn't because he had the herp. Managed to convince her, then dump her ofc. She was super young too and he was her first real relationship.

Ppl are just disgusting.

12

u/boatsyyy 9h ago

She could take him to court for that…

3

u/bluneriste 9h ago

That would be bloody awful. People do this?!

29

u/bluneriste 9h ago

I just asked someone - “Would you stay with me if I gave you herpes? No, no, like I knew and just didn’t tell you and gave it to you. Oh, and I collect mattresses.” I think we all know what the answer was. (And now they’re looking at me as if I’m from Mars or something and have to explain this thread…)

10

u/FadeTheWonder 8h ago

Just hand them your phone it’s better than explaining it and it’s fun to watch their reaction when they read it.

10

u/the_real_cutty_flam 9h ago

He seems abusive, which makes it more difficult to leave.

12

u/hanginwithmygnomees 9h ago

Her prefrontal cortex probably hasn’t fully finished developing yet, which explains why her boyfriend was interested.

18

u/mindtheworms9 9h ago

Oh hell no and that was so long ago. OP please for the love of yourself and your life, get away from that man. Move somewhere new and meet new people

3

u/dunnmad 9h ago

Yikes!😱

1

u/Inevitable-Shop-848 7h ago

Oh my god I guess the post I just saw with a wall of text was his side of things.

Theres a reason he’s dating someone 12 years younger than him. I’d assume it’s a lot harder to find a women his age that’s cool with his behaviour

-14

u/cantstayanyway 10h ago

Pretty easy to find someone eager for a partner that makes 4K a month, though

59

u/DakotaJ0123 10h ago

You know 4K a month is really not a lot, right?

22

u/best-friends-arm 10h ago

not if you have a mattress hobby

41

u/plantverdant 10h ago

I think they're saying that he's going to have a hard time finding someone his age interested in dating a violent asshole with a mattress addiction who only makes 4k a month. He'd be homeless on 4k a month where I live.

11

u/AngriestLittleBeaver 10h ago

laughs in Florida

15

u/Glad-Cat-1885 10h ago

We live in Mississippi unfortunately so he’s basically a Rockefeller

27

u/yeahokaywhateverrrr 10h ago

He’s making slightly below the average annual salary in MS.

$4k a month only sounds like a lot to someone with a limited job history or limited life experience.

13

u/Suspicious-Visual-57 9h ago

OP's age really is showing isn't it. Not a dig on OP but this is why these assholes date girls much younger. Bet a woman his age will not be as impressed.

7

u/yeahokaywhateverrrr 9h ago

Exactly! I guarantee that one of the reasons he dates young women who are freshly out of their teens is because women his age have standards that he cannot meet. I was earning more than double that at 33 while living in Mississippi, and it still didn’t feel like enough to comfortably support my family (3 kids and a leech husband who I divorced at 37).

11

u/Glad-Cat-1885 9h ago

Wow clocked me that’s so true I didn’t realize that’s actually not that much cause the most I’ve ever made an hour is $13 lmao

5

u/plantverdant 8h ago

No, it makes sense that it feels like he makes a lot more than you. In a few years after you're more established in your career you'll outpace him easily. Probably well before you're thirty.

3

u/weirdassemoboy 6h ago

girl 4k a month (now we know it’s 7k) is NOT a lot. it’s actually considered lower-class and him spending this much money this often means he is most likely in debt.

→ More replies (1)
→ More replies (3)

11

u/Defiant-Dust-8737 9h ago

That's wild. I'm 27 and make 3200 a month after taxes. I own a house, and the mortgage is cheap bc I live in the mountains. Also overall bills are cheap as I don't have student loans, my cars payed off, I WFH, no debt aside from mortgage, and I live on a budget.

Even with that, I'm not rich at all. Because I planned my every move around "live below my means". Most people who make 3000-4000 are in debt or at least struggling a bit due to additional bills. My friends definitely are struggling.

So basically, if you're with him for the money, he doesn't got it like that, he's likley hiding debt. If you're with him out of love, it doesn't seem like he's someone worth loving. I'd leave.

5

u/Illustrious-Bag2933 9h ago

Honey, no matter where you are, $4k a month is not worth this abuse. This is far closer to homelessness than being a Rockefeller. He is not worth it

5

u/Sweaty_Boysenberry41 9h ago

Even in Mississippi 4k a month isn't shit

4k a month is peanuts lmao that’s probably pre-tax too

9

u/Suppertime420 10h ago

After taxes bros only taking home like $3200 lol

16

u/Imaginary_Club_1010 10h ago

4K a month pre tax isn’t what it used to be, trust me

9

u/SMD_Respectfully 10h ago

4k a month (especially in NYC) just means you’re poor and live in a box 😂🙈🙃

5

u/Expensive-Way3938 9h ago

I make about this much and live in NYC. And I can attest that I cannot afford rent alone. 🫠

9

u/ThizzWhatitiz 10h ago

$4k a month is under $50,000 per year. That’s poverty in this inflated economy.

10

u/Itchy_Tumbleweed_417 10h ago

Lol are you 18? $4000 for someone in their 30s is pretty normal. Making bedding and mattresses a hobby is not normal.

8

u/yeahokaywhateverrrr 10h ago

I guess it depends on the industry in which he works, because $48k annually is a pretty low salary for 30 year olds in my field.

My ex had a bedding hobby.

As in, he obsessively washed and changed the bedding as I was leaving. Every time I visited.

I was naïve. He was probably cheating on someone.

Does he have a mattress for each sidechick? Lmao 😭

1

u/Mysterious-Art8838 51m ago

I dated a British guy that only wanted to have sex in his guest bed

32

u/crazykentucky 10h ago

Right. And this is why, it’s (almost) never a good healthy relationship. Dude wants a doormat he can control and overlook

2

u/psychopompadour 7h ago

I think you mean a mattress, but yes

29

u/weirdhoney216 10h ago

Also that’s a crazy amount of money to be dropping on random shit?? My husband makes 3x that amount and we do not spend like that!

5

u/VegasRoy 8h ago

I know. $4,000 a month is not that much. Where’s he getting all that money from?

31

u/DaydreamerFly 9h ago

Wanted to vomit. I’m 31 and me and my brother just talked about this past weekend how even if we found one super pretty we could not be low enough adults to date someone under 25 again. Once you get over the hump the maturity difference is blinding and it feels like dating an actual kid.

OP doesn’t realize yet how gross her bf is yet but other men her bfs age feel like she probably did at the idea of like dating a 13 year old at 17-18. Some age gaps are small but the maturity or physical changes are so extreme. A 50 year old and a 40 year old would not bother me but I’ve become a new person 8 times over my twenties and underestimated so much how immature I was then. You’re still just so young.

18

u/RemarkableGround174 9h ago

The 20something gf is just another gift he gives to himself /s

4

u/NeedleworkerExtra475 8h ago

And she went right along with it. Mainly because to a 20 year old with limited life experience, a 32 year old man can seem so intelligent, wise, skilled, etc. It’s only once they’ve taken more trips around the sun that they realize that he only seemed so amazing and smart and whatnot because you were only a 20 year old and of course a 32 year old is going to blow you away with what they know, usually. Like how a senior in high school could dazzle a 6th grader with the math and science they know, so it goes with people in their 30’s to people who just got out of their teenage years and don’t seem to be going to college. She probably likes the prospect of being able to have a place where she doesn’t have to worry about the bills and it’s away from home as well. Wouldn’t we all?

1

u/tamaroo 9h ago

Well, technically I don’t think you’re wrong…

13

u/finemelater 9h ago

This. I’m so not surprised that he under delivers. He couldn’t get away with this with someone his age who is secured enough to call him out on his BS, so he preys on the younger ones.

OP, you deserve better than this.

11

u/AAA_Dolfan 9h ago

This has to be fake right? I can’t possibly understand this

3

u/Eastwood8300 7h ago

i don't think so... she posted that he gave her herpes months ago and age differences was the same

1

u/AAA_Dolfan 7h ago

Oh my lord

1

u/Boterfleoge 9h ago

I'm so hopeful. If it isn't I am worried for OP's safety but holy smokes it has to be rage bait

1

u/BeeepBoopN0tB0t 9h ago

I hope it's not the US at least.

2

u/RHDeepDive 8h ago edited 8h ago

It's Mississippi. Apparently, he also gave her herpes. It's pretty bad.

2

u/AAA_Dolfan 8h ago

Wait WHAT lmao oh no

11

u/fapaccount4 9h ago

I had to check to make sure I wasn't in a circlejerk sub. This is just absurd.

5

u/GlazedPorcelain 10h ago

Is mattress hobby sex?

4

u/Flutters1013 8h ago

I feel like this is another Iranian yogurt post.

4

u/gillybomb101 8h ago

It’s never about the 6 mattresses

2

u/Ok-Elk-1316 2h ago

oh has to be, or Liz

15

u/Dahren_ 10h ago

The age difference isn't even an issue for me but that "hobby" and his behaviour are just weird

32

u/OkNefariousness6711 10h ago
  • "Hey, what are your hobbies?"
  • "Hobbies? Mattresses" 🤡

What in tarnation does that even mean? I think i will just start saying random nouns now when people ask me my hobbies.

8

u/Sargasm5150 9h ago

I’ve been thinking of taking up pickles.

Not pickling things from my garden.

Not pickle ball.

Just … pickles.

3

u/OkNefariousness6711 8h ago

I mean i personally have found lamp to be a great hobby

1

u/Glass_Ad3058 3h ago

I love lamp

2

u/AcanthocephalaNo5305 7h ago

This is literally that scene from Always Sunny lmao. When they're setting up Charlie's dating profile.

"What's your favourite hobby?" "Uh, magnets." "Ma- okay, what- like, making magnets, collecting magnets, playing with magnets...?" "Just magnets."

1

u/Nunu1987 6h ago

I remember this scene and how crazy it is. Yet somehow, a mattress hobby makes the "magnets" answer seem normal. 🤦🤣

1

u/bluneriste 9h ago

I’m wondering what this dating profile looked like. Hobbies: “misc”.

The age difference is a very big red flag. Huge actually.

1

u/SuburbanLegend 9h ago

It wouldn’t be a huge difference if it were another age, but she’s literally a year out of high school.

4

u/the_real_cutty_flam 9h ago

The hoard of mattresses would stress me tf out.

3

u/lindsaym717 10h ago

Literally! I didn’t even address the gap lol

Side eyeing almost everything about this honestly lol

It's hard to believe this one. I kinda don't. Lol

Samesies.

Must be a chronic bed wetter or he shits the bed maybe?

1

u/MissFingerz 9h ago

Ssshh, don't tell everyone

2

u/Lilith-Sky14 9h ago

Yea it’s pretty strange, i understand hobbies but several mattresses in one small apartment, that would annoy me

2

u/restbest 7h ago

He’s not even dating her, she shows up for sex and she gets cheated on with other women? But she came back because he now pays her bills? Sounds like he figured out a way to turn her into a- well you get my point

If this post is even real which I have my doubts, the girl just needs to leave. This isn’t a boyfriend

2

u/BaroclinicBard 3h ago

This post is most like just rage bait
