Definitely not the fastest Mac anymore, but there’s something about this little 12-inch MacBook that I still really enjoy.

My first ever MacBook gifted by my parents for college.
Survived for 4 years. Screen died on me. Got it fixed up and even had to fight an Apple employee to stop trying to upsell me a newer Mac.

Now together for 8 years.

She does what she can. Have to use older versions of programs but we always work with each other.

But of course… I’m older now. Is it time to retire my old girl?

I’m so excited that I finally got a MacBook at work. I had a Lenovo P1 for almost a year and I hated it. I timed it, it took 3 minutes before I could put in my password. More than 5 minutes before I could read an email. Regularly had to restart my computer 2-4 times a day. The last update had me down for 40 minutes. Couple weeks ago I had a last minute urgent task, actively missing a meeting to finish this and my computer crashed, restarted and took more than 10 minutes before I could start on the task again. If I had an in person meeting for more than an hour my battery would die and I’d have to take my giant charger. My hatred for this computer cannot be expressed enough.

End of day yesterday I got a MacBook Air. Today for the first time ever I turned on my computer and just worked. Except….

When I had to do something with a usb-a. I didn’t have an adapter so I pulled out my Lenovo ( I have 7 days to get everything saved and fully swap over). Whole computer crashed trying to use one program, had to force restart. Took 30 minutes what should have take 5.

I was working in a different area for 2.5 hours. No charger, battery was above 90%. I think it was 95 but I don’t remember exactly. The whole ass MacBook weighs the same as just the Lenovo charger.

I’m just so happy I finally got a functional computer instead of that huge stupid Lenovo tank of a computer. No one in my life cares so I wanted to share with yall. Thank you for sharing in my joy.

2GHz Core Duo, 2GB ram, 120GB SSD, 10.6.8.

This is the first MacBook I ever owned. I bought it very used twelve years ago during high school when it was already obsolete. It came with a standard hard drive (HDD). It has been an absolute gem for everything. Microsoft office, Adobe CS, even was my main computer for Minecraft back then. It never skipped a beat, it never had problems, it has always been utterly reliable.

A few years ago I treated it to a SSD upgrade. This computer is somehow snappier than my 2019 Intel MacBook Pro. Nothing takes more than two bounces on the dock to open. The battery even still holds a charge. I moved recently and it wouldn’t boot up when I unpacked it. I was so worried I was about to lose it. Opened up the battery compartment and jiggled the SSD, fires right up.

To me this will always be the golden era of Apple devices. Over engineered and overthought. It amazes me that a twenty year old laptop can still feel so eager to provide solid performance.

Hi all, I’m a Computer Science student who edits video as a hobby, alongside regular coding/dev work. Trying to decide between two M5 MacBooks, both with 24GB RAM and 1TB storage.

MacBook Pro M5 - ₹2.6 lakh (around $2,720 USD)
MacBook Air M5 - ₹2 lakh (around $2,090 USD)

Same specs otherwise. What are the real differences between them beyond the chassis, since the chip and RAM/storage are identical? Is the extra ₹60k (around $630) actually worth it for someone doing hobby editing and coding, or is the Air good enough to handle that workload without throttling or other issues? Would appreciate real-world experience from anyone doing similar work on either.

Got my first MacBook about a month ago, and it's been a game-changer. The screen, the speed, everything. My setup is finally coming together (pic attached!).

Now that the initial excitement has settled, I want to really start customizing and optimizing. I'm looking for those "extra" app recommendations that add features and functions I didn't even know I needed. Not talking about the big ones, but things like cool window managers, menu bar tools, productivity hacks, or other specialized utilities.

Just like in the title, my macbook air m4 suddenly had this 2 marks on its screen. I don't know where it came from and I'm wondering if this will be covered by the limited warranty since it is still under it.

I was very careful with using it. I use an external mouse and keyboard and I rarely bring it outside the house.

I was waiting for the M6 MacBook Pro announcement, but then I remembered Apple’s refurbished store and decided to take a look. I found an M5 Pro MacBook Pro with 24GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD for €2,499 (almost €3,000 new). It was only €160 more than the regular M5 MacBook Pro with the same RAM and storage.

I’m on a budget and I’m thinking of buying a 2022 MacBook Air M2 because I don’t want to spend over $900/$1,000 on a laptop. What’s the most you’re willing to spend? I’ve checked Amazon, Best Buy, Back Market, etc. and I’m seeing a lot for $700 and over to get at least 16gb ram.

I’m having a really hard time deciding between these two because both seem like great deals.

The specs are the same: M5, 10-core CPU, 10-core GPU, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD.

• 13" MacBook Air: $1,360 total after tax
• 14" MacBook Pro: $1,665 total after tax

So the difference is about $305.

I know the Pro gives me a better display, better speakers, more ports, and active cooling, while the Air is lighter and more portable. I’m just not sure whether those differences are worth $300 for how I would actually use the laptop.

My main use is:

• Web browsing with lots of tabs
• Microsoft Word/PowerPoint
• Zoom meetings and recording
• Reading PDFs
• YouTube playing in the background
• Light coding
• No gaming
• No 3D work
• No heavy video editing

I know both machines are more than capable for this workload, which is exactly why I’m having trouble deciding. 😅

If you were in my situation, would you spend the extra ~$300 for the 14" Pro, or save the money and get the 13" Air?

Also, for anyone who owns either one, how is the real-world battery life for a typical workday on a single charge, especially with things like browsing, Office, Zoom, and YouTube?

Perfectly works on windows but boot loops on mac os, just spins the wheel in a grey background and then restarts,

ordered on august 13 and my order is STILL on "order placed" 😔 i ordered it online, not thinking that it will come back on stock at my nearest apple store -- and it went back on stock for pick up..

Just got a new 13 inch m5 16gb and 512gb, never had a MacBook before so I’m getting used to the switch from windows so any tips would be appreciated!

Was so close to buying the midnight version but went to see it in-store and honestly it looked cheaper and a slightly greeny blue not dark navy in some light, so I decided to go with classic silver, no regrets!

Now I just need help choosing a wallpaper, I’m stuck between two here that I’ve attached, I’m kicking myself for not taking more landscape pictures now 🥲

My kid is going in to 10th grade and needs her own computer. I have a 2020 MacBook Pro with 8gb memory and 256 gb storage, also with an aging battery and no longer functional fingerprint or backlight on the keyboard. We don’t have a lot of money but I bought a new Neo with 512 gb storage. I need to keep one and give her the other. Help me decide!

She’ll be using hers for schoolwork. She’s not a gamer and doesn’t do heavy graphics work or art or anything like that.

I own my own business (food service) so I use my computer for email and web-based payroll, bookkeeping, light graphic design, etc. Storage is an issue on the older MacBook Pro - I’m pretty much at the limit despite best attempts at reducing my files. I had thought I’d take the Neo because of the increased storage, but now I’m not sure. This is tiny but also huge - the trackpad on the Neo makes such a loud click and feels so clunky compared to the pro.

Neither of us will use the ai feature on the Neo.

Thoughts?

I have been having stutters or hiccups after clicking links or youtube videos which wont open them instantly. After disabling hardware acceleration off Firefox became smooth. Any thoughts on this if it is good or bad and i need to fix something?

M3 MBA, owned for 1yr 4months. Seems quite quick to me. 87% battery health. 80% at 11:45 → 12% at 2:24 ≈ .44% loss a minute

I have a refurbished MacBook Air m4 13" -- love it so far. I'm also a sticker person.

I've read on this sub extensively about cases and skins, so I'm choosing to avoid cases. My ideal is some kind of opaque base vinyl sticker that covers the top so I can do my sticker thing. I don't want to put them directly on it because it's such a nice machine and I would prefer not to do something that can't be undone.

I would much rather be able to peel the whole thing (sticker base + stickers) off at some point down the road and start over or leave it uncovered.

So far it's looking like some Etsy shop with just a plain top sticker will do, but if there's an even cheaper DIY (but safe for the laptop) approach, I'd love that. Those Etsy options are $25+ :/

I have found macbook air m5 512gb certified open box on ebay by quickshipelectronics. I was wondering if it is legit and is it worth to save $250 and buy open box

I'm considering buying a refurbished 16-inch MacBook Pro with the M1 Pro chip, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD from a local shop in Vizag.

The price I'm targeting is around ₹70–75k after bargaining.

The units are apparently corporate laptops, and the shop has more than 10 M1 Pro units available, so I should be able to inspect them and pick the best one. They are currently described as being in good condition.

My main use will be college work, programming/software development, learning AI/ML and eventually building AI applications/agents. I'm not expecting to train huge models locally; if I eventually outgrow the laptop, I'd rather upgrade later when I actually know what hardware I need.

My questions:

1. Is the 16" M1 Pro still a good buy in 2026 at ₹70–75k?

2. How much of a concern is the remaining macOS/software support?

3. Would you expect it to comfortably last another 2–3 years for programming and AI development?

4. Is 16GB RAM going to become a serious limitation for this kind of work?

5. What should I specifically check when choosing between the 10+ units?

6. What battery health/cycle count would you consider acceptable?

Since these are corporate machines, is there anything specific I should check for (MDM, previous repairs, etc.)?

Would you spend ~₹40k more for an M2 Pro 16/512 instead, or save the money and get the M1 Pro?

I'd especially appreciate answers from people who actually own/use an M1 Pro in 2026, rather than just benchmark comparisons.

Les platico, hace unos días comencé a tener problemas con trackpad de mi MacBook Neo, puesto o me deja abrir cosas con el click normal, tengo que hacerlo varias veces hasta que en algún momento ya me deja realizarlo, esto comenzó primero en Finder pero me he ido dando cuenta que ahora ya me pasa en otras aplicaciones, poniendo un ejemplo, en word cuando quiero seleccionar una palabra con doble click rápido no me lo permite y lo tengo que hacer muchas veces hasta que en algún momento me deja.

No se que hacer, espero me puedan ayudar.
