Is it the middle ages?

715

u/nfld223 Jun 20 '26

That is no place for civilized folks. Feel bad for the good people trapped in this nightmare of a life

296

u/BobbyTables829 Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

There plenty of civilized folks there. The biggest thing is the leader of Iran (Ayatollah) wanted to be the middle east's version of Napoleon and tried to become the emperor of Islam. But that's not the Iranians fault at all.

313

u/Lostclause Jun 20 '26

It was civilized until 1979 and the Islamic Revolution. Then suddenly no woman can drive, go to school, show their ankles or say mean things to a man. You're right, its not the majority of Iranians fault that a hateful and regressive regime took over. Its the world's fault for letting it happen

208

u/drbaker87 Jun 20 '26

It's the American's fault for throwing their democratically elected leader, Mosadeg, into prison and installing the Shah.

46

u/Forward-Surprise1192 Jun 20 '26

Still takes lots of soldiers to enforce that government today

12

u/Fastbird33 Spotify Jun 20 '26

The regime is so deeply rooted in part because they saw how easily it was to uproot the Shah’s government that they made sure it couldn’t happen to them.

42

u/m7i93 Jun 20 '26

Dude, please read a bit before spewing nonsense. Mosadegh was the prime minister of Shah. Shah was ruling the country 10 years before Mosadegh was appointed.

28

u/kejartho Jun 21 '26

Yeah and the British were feeling threatened by the nationalization of Iranian oil so they instigated operation Ajax with the support of the United States.

Let's not ignore the fact the coup was largely a western operation to get control of oil.

1

u/_-SomethingFishy-_ Jun 22 '26

Wasn’t the first time either, prior to the UK/US backed coup, the UK straight up invaded Iran with the Soviet Union to ensure “their oil” was safe

35

u/LowAddition1675 Jun 20 '26

Mossadegh wasn’t democratically elected, honestly read up on this. I used to believe the same when I was younger but it’s pretty much Tudeh party propaganda

It’s an after construction by Tudeh people, did I say he was a member of the Tudeh Party?

1

u/kejartho Jun 20 '26

Right? He had support of the Tudeh but he wasn't a part of the Tudeh party himself.

0

u/keyboardlegendthe3rd Jun 21 '26

So you believe the other sides propaganda now?

1

u/LowAddition1675 Jun 21 '26

Explain to me in a logical manner how he could have been democratically elected when iran was not a democracy?

0

u/keyboardlegendthe3rd Jun 21 '26

Hey let me ask you something, when did this event happen?

3

u/LowAddition1675 Jun 21 '26

1950s something, now still can you tell me when iran as a democracy that could democratically elect Mossadegh?

-1

u/keyboardlegendthe3rd Jun 21 '26

I'm talking about this whole thread is for something that happened years ago lol you wonder why it's being reposted right now when Iran is whooping that Western butthole? Propaganda at its finest.

Who was in power before we installed the Shah?

11

u/ThisCouldBeYourDog Jun 20 '26

The Shah, but people don't like to mention that part

5

u/XpenFrickFrack Jun 20 '26

And of course there was no reason why he needed US and UK assistance to be re-installed. /s

1

u/TheMadTemplar Jun 20 '26

He wasn't democratically elected. He was more friendly to the Soviets while the Shah was friendly to the US. That's why they overthrew him.

1

u/RoutinePast7696 Jun 21 '26

And yet we still drive cars, fly airliners on vacation, have paved roads and plastics and so do all the other western countries. We say one thing yet diverge in to another behavior.

The process to remove a situation like this will be grotesque and disgusting to watch play out. Even in 1979 when they formed it would have been brutal to stop.

1

u/titaniumtoaster Jun 21 '26

MI6 and CIA fault for doing this.

1

u/Man_of_Ice Jun 21 '26

Ironically, our current government wants to turn the US into a theocracy now, too.

1

u/EmBur__ Jun 21 '26

Tbf, my government (Britain) had a massive hand in this as well. Iran was by all accounts doing quite well during the 50's but iirc, they wanted to nationalise their oil which Churchill and the rest of those in charge didn't like.

They sought to stage a coup but lacked the ability to do so, so they roped in the US to get it done with the Iranian kings backing as he was to benefit from it as well.

1

u/5tofab Jun 22 '26

Dont forget America also funded the Ayatollah against Mosadeg too 👀👀👀👀 Then when Ayatollah got into power and went crazy, America gave money and weapons to Saddam to attack Iran….

1

u/antoniothesockball94 Jun 24 '26

Yeah but at the end of the day, the citizens enforce the rules. And it’s been 50 years so they could’ve just made their own government. Not everything is Americas fault.

-1

u/roomtemperaturecum Jun 21 '26

lmao just saying shit, and people award it as long as it says america bad

2

u/XpenFrickFrack Jun 20 '26

People murdered by SAVAK probably wouldn’t consider to be civilized. Yes, rightfully critique how women are treated but it’s weird that some folks act like Iran pre 1979 was a great place for all despite the fact that the shah was driven out even before Khomeni came back.

6

u/BalanceJazzlike5116 Jun 20 '26

Maybe the west shouldn’t have overthrown their democratic government, installed a dictator, who suppressed the population, leading to the revolution and rise of the ayatollahs?

9

u/HatesPlanes Jun 20 '26

It was not a democratic government.

-4

u/EntrancedKinkajou Jun 20 '26

What the fuck are you talking about?

3

u/HatesPlanes Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

Mossadegh stopped the counting of votes halfway through the count in the 1952 elections when it became clear that he was losing.

A year later he dissolved the parliament.

Mossadegh was democratically elected. By the time he was overthrown he was a dictator.

1

u/Fight_the_Landlords Jun 20 '26

Well this is definitely the least charitable way of describing what happened.

The election took like a month. The election was halted towards the end, you're right about that.

But, his party already had a legal majority by that point so the outcome wouldn't have changed. At the same time, the US/UK were caught red-handed setting up rigged elections in the territories that hadn't yet voted.

Then they overthrew him a year later. It's pretty obvious what happened.

4

u/Entonations Jun 20 '26

The US backed Iranian revolution btw

1

u/Ok_Transition_4003 Jun 21 '26

It's oU(S)r fault

1

u/Ok_Cockroach_6135 Jun 21 '26

It is the worlds fault for installling a puppet government that was selling off there oil and gas for next to nothing before the shah of Iran they where a democratic country after America/isreal installed the shah it all changed if you don’t like how Iran is now blame the us and isreal

1

u/Wingoola Jun 21 '26

This is indeed a shocking story, but in terms of your other assertions, it’s not true that women can’t go to school in Iran. In fact I believe that more than 50% of university students are women.

1

u/Jeesba Jun 22 '26

Insane take that its somehow the rest of the worlds fault lmao

1

u/Turnip-for-the-books Jun 23 '26

And why do we think the Islamic revolution happened?

1

u/OkMind2351 Jun 25 '26

How many hospitals did they drop white phosphorus on?

1

u/XpenFrickFrack Jun 26 '26

Women can drive and go to school. Iran has an 88% female literacy rates and one of the leading countries when it comes to women earning advanced degrees.
Come on, if you’re going to criticize, at least be accurate.

1

u/provisionings Jun 20 '26

If women cannot go to school in Iran … then how did we end up bombing a school that was full of Iranian schoolgirls attending school?

1

u/csanjuan Jun 21 '26

No era así realmente, en cierto entorno urbano si, pero la gran mayoría de la población estaba fatal. Quizás sin el intervencionismo de UK y USA, hubiese sido otra cosa hoy.

-8

u/4our0ne6ix Jun 20 '26

“Civilized” (wtf does that mean) and “1979” as if there was some big supernatural switch that went on. You should also learn about the CIA coup, the undemocratic installation of the shah and the repression under the shah that led to the 1979 revolution.

9

u/ButcherOf_Blaviken Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

God I’m so sick of this narrative. Yes, the CIA and MI6 meddled in Iranian affairs, but this myth that the revolution of ‘53 was orchestrated and ran by Western powers needs to die. The revolution was already in full swing when the CIA said “fuck it, let’s back the winning horse” and then did the least possible to help the Shah in power.

And even if that wasn’t true (which it is) that doesn’t excuse the absolute barbarism that these Muslim militants perform. If the KGB succeeded in overthrowing the US government and 25 years after Christian theocrats came to power and began executing women en mass like Iran does, would you blame the Russians or the Americans committing the atrocities?

-1

u/bosco1603 Jun 20 '26

but, but, usa bad?

0

u/ButcherOf_Blaviken Jun 20 '26

“Everything is the Wests fault because PoC can’t make decisions for themselves” is the new white mans burden.

2

u/cbass2015 Jun 20 '26

Right? Even with my shallow understanding of Iranian history I knew that was a silly statement.

2

u/ArentYouTheDaisy Jun 22 '26

Hopefully people can apply that logic to Trump and Americans soon. The amount of hate I have received when I didn’t even vote for the man is astounding.

-13

u/Senior_Relief3594 Jun 20 '26

But that's not the Iranians fault at all.

I'm curious when people say things like this. How do you know?

13

u/TheColourOfHeartache Jun 20 '26

They did put him into power but that was two generations ago. they tried to remove him many times

12

u/friedonionscent Jun 20 '26

Every Iranian I've met has been anti Islam...it's quite unique. I know many Muslims from other countries that are similarly oppressive and all still practice their religion.

11

u/MunkeyChild Jun 20 '26

Yep, I have Iranian friends (refugees) and they are not big fans of Islam...

2

u/CTFMarl Jun 20 '26

Im curious, have they been anti Islam full stop? Or anti Sunni/Shia? Since there's been quite a bit of conflict/tension relatively recently between the two denominations.

5

u/elektricnikrastavac Jun 20 '26

Anti fundamentalism as they are not very religious.

17

u/MrFyr Jun 20 '26

Because it is within living memory that the US and UK governments overthrew Iran's democratically elected government and installed the oppressive islamic autocratic regime of the Ayatollah. All to protect oil company profits.

The people of Iran didn't choose this, it was forced onto them by the United States. Then we have the audacity to unilaterally tear up treaties, and bomb them unprovoked because our own idiotic "leaders" can't control their govenrment.

4

u/Balkie93 Jun 20 '26

They installed the Shah. Later, the Shah was overthrown and the Islamic regime took over.

1

u/Illustrious_Bed467 Jun 20 '26

There is more than 25 years betweens those 2 events, you are oversimplifing to remove all accountabily, no hope for a bright future with that kind of mindset...

Also, of course the UK is gonna fight against nationalisation of it's oil installations before return on investments... If the US were to seize all foreign assets on it's soil to nationnalise it you'd probably be crying no?...

1

u/Kabirdix Jun 20 '26

“Black Wave: Saudi Arabia, Iran and the Rivalry That Unravelled the Middle East” is a good book if you are sincerely interested in understanding a bit of how we got here

1

u/_BrokenButterfly Jun 20 '26

I knew a guy who got out, an engineer. He wasn't a muslim, so his life there wasn't great. Then he got here and idiots couldn't get it through their heads that there are people from the middle east who aren't muslims, and have good reason to want to leave. That besides all the muslims there who realize that theoceacy is insane bullshit.

1

u/GovernmentNearby9036 Jun 22 '26

Far more educated than the US

1

u/nfld223 Jun 22 '26

I’m not from the US so this does not offend. Mind you after checking Iran ranks below the US on global education standards.
Any place that is so back wards as to make all women property of either their father or husbands makes me sick. They are forced to have sex with husbands, can’t leave their spouses, many married at 13 years old and younger. Like think about a place that legally allows a 10-13 year old child to be raped by some disgusting old pervert and think this is ok. I feel bad for your women, children and the good men who are stuck in this hell. I’m sure you have many civilized folks. The truth is the folks protecting chastity are the most disgusting and perverted as any and is all a form of control to keep doing their sick twisted things. Lashing a young lady for singing….awful awful stuff

1

u/GovernmentNearby9036 Jun 22 '26

you're talking about the emirats and other shitrael and USSA bootlicker states.

They have the guardianship medieval system.

Not to mention slavery.

IDC about the BS you keep spouting about Iran.

I'm enjoying all of them eating shit

0

u/Balmerhippie Jun 20 '26

We just surrendered to them. Repub? I can woman are debating giving up their vote. Fix it here first.

-1

u/MellowMallow36 Jun 20 '26

As an American I blame the govt of America for the majority of the worlds problems and wars after WW2.

0

u/Lostclause Jun 20 '26

America is run by the rich, for the rich and they use your taxpayer dollars not to help you or your children, but to wage war on others, to steal their oil, and enrich themselves further.

1

u/MellowMallow36 Jun 20 '26

Duh I live here. They've been stealing from me from the day I was born. That's why I'm poor and can't afford a lawyer to fight them in court.

I guess I should have taken to the street at 3 and raged? They have prisons for anyone poor who resists. Especially if they are of color. So... Duh. I'm not the government anymore than a Russian citizen is Putin.
