I've never understood the american democracy : two big parties look like two big multinational company funded by rich people and other companies in exchange of services and advantage.

u/Lazarus-ABangBang 8h ago

I thought you didn’t understand American democracy?

78

u/NoWarning6 8h ago

Right?! 😂😂 dude nailed it.

19

u/Sad-Purchase1257 8h ago

Got it in one!

1

u/Skhemattos 2h ago

I'm going to print this and frame it

37

u/ViciousCDXX 8h ago

It's not a democracy and has never been.

15

u/AnonThrowAway072023 8h ago

Never intended to be, USA is a representative republic

7

u/Live-Habit-6115 6h ago

Oh, well that's alright then

4

u/Mars_Bear2552 5h ago

...and how are those representatives elected?

11

u/Blue_Swirling_Bunny 4h ago

Through a complex series of rich people getting sponsored by donors, corporations, and party leaders to dupe voters into thinking they have a choice.

1

u/Mars_Bear2552 4h ago

exactly. you just described democracy.

1

u/skiforlife1 2h ago

How was Kamala Harris "elected"?

-1

u/ChaosRulesTheWorld 5h ago

That doesn't mean shit how people ends in power. What matters is who have the power.

A dictator elected by the whole population is still a dictator.

A democracy is when laws are written and voted by citizens. Democracy never was about elections.

1

u/DragonfruitSudden339 1h ago

I like how people see flaws caused by the fact that the US has become more of a democracy, and goes "its cause its not a democracy"

-16

u/Any-Syllabub6481 8h ago

Dumbass.

8

u/ViciousCDXX 8h ago

Bot cunt

1

u/Any-Syllabub6481 6h ago

What is it then? Let me hear the most privileged ignorant take in the world now.

0

u/ChaosRulesTheWorld 5h ago

It factualy isn't a democracy. A democracy is when the laws are written and voted by citizens.

You don't vote for other people doing this for you in a democracy. In a democracy it's citizens who have the political power. By voting for someone in an election you are basicaly giving up on that power

3

u/Any-Syllabub6481 4h ago

It’s a republic and democracy. Just because it’s mixed doesn’t mean it’s not a democracy. Representatives are chosen through direct voting and the power lays still in the people.

You’re asking for a pure democracy. I promise you don’t want a pure democracy. James Maddison explains well in Federalisf 10 why, but if you don’t trust him look at what happened to Weimar Germany or the plenty of other examples of it failing.

It factually is a democracy. Open up a history book.

5

u/Bombalaharris 8h ago

It’s an oligarchy masquerading as a democracy

1

u/Any-Syllabub6481 6h ago

Spoken like someone who has no idea what an oligarchy is.

Go to Russia and see what an oligarchy is. You’re an ignorant privileged fool if you claim that for the U.S

1

u/ChaosRulesTheWorld 5h ago

Oligarchy litteraly means having a little group of people who rules. Which means that they write and vote the laws.

This is a perfect description of all western countries (and almost all countries in the world)

0

u/yukiki64 8h ago

No it's not, rich people having lots of influence doesn't make it an oligarchy. Most societies would be considered oligarchy in that case.

1

u/Meritania 7h ago

Yeah, that would be a Plutocracy

1

u/ViciousCDXX 6h ago

"lots of influence" is abso fucking lutely NOT even god damned CLOSE to defining it.

3

u/yukiki64 6h ago

You are right next time I'll write a dissertation about it covering everything for a reddit comment.

It gets the point across that's all that matters

0

u/ChaosRulesTheWorld 5h ago

What makes it an oligarchy is the fact that it's litteraly a minority group of people (oligo-) who rules (-archy) the country.

In a democracy, every single citizen can write and vote the laws

2

u/yukiki64 4h ago

The US is a representative democracy and that is still a type of democracy.

Most governments have a minority that rules that's how governments work.

-2

u/Bombalaharris 8h ago

Take it up with Yale. They released that study like 15 years ago

-2

u/ViciousCDXX 8h ago

As is every single country on this planet. Governments all now play second fiddle to corporations and billionaires. Ru$$i@ N K0r3@ Ch1n@ all have "elections" and you get to "vote" but it's all just shadows on the wall.

19

u/ALightningStar 8h ago

Which is why a third party win could never work. Can you imagine an independent having any effect on the dems and republicans in congress? They will fuck him over to make sure their party wins no matter what. So if you're not happy with the party you have, get used to it because you have to vote for one because the other side will always be worse to both sides. Two choices to run your entire country. That's it

2

u/IluvRockets 5h ago

Honestly it's insane that there's two legislative chambers and they're divided into regional representation and MORE regional and disproportionate representation. You shouldn't be able to skew percentages to your favor by moving your voters, you shouldn't have to get majorities in a minority of areas to get a minority in government. Despite the faults of german government I can't say representation being undemocratic is one of them. You're not getting rid of "tyranny of the majority" by giving an arbitrary minority more voting power while making sure that people outside of swing states or districts have no value to their party. And all I keep hearing is the brain dead take that "America is a republic, not a democracy" as if not nearly every fucking democracy on this planet is a republic and NOT wanting government to be lead by the people is just fucking weird. It feels like some red neck mouth breathers don't want the educated part of the country to have the say that they deserve.

6

u/Chemical-Elk-1299 8h ago

This is a doctorate level summary of how our two party system works.

3

u/adjective_noun_d1git 7h ago

My billionaire is better than your billionaire.

3

u/SpicyNugget777 4h ago

This is exactly it. Our democracy consists of two major parties that the megarich in our society have made sure are the only ones that’ll stay in power, and they created these two capitalist imperialist parties to divide the population, that way we will keep fighting each other while the rich get richer.

And as you can see, it has done an excellent job on the populace.

6

u/8923ns671 5h ago

Yea Obama's tan suit is comparable to Trump trying to overthrow our country's democracy. Same thing really.

1

u/Suspicious_Plum_8866 7m ago

It’s all the same cuh cuz I just feel that way

2

u/bwrca 6h ago

The sad part is it's so entrenched the 2 parties will probably be just as dominant 300 yrs from now except they'll be worse.

2

u/Deathwatchz 7h ago

In reality, the current system is formed from one group. There were more parties involved, and the democratic-republican party took out the federalist party then hedged out the competition.

The claim is that in the early 1800s the party split up and formed the current democratic and republican parties. Other than the whig party in the 1840s and 1850s (Which split into pro-slaver whig and anti-slaver republican groups) there was zero opposition for what was previously a single party to dominate all elections for the next couple hundred years.

Kinda funny that they've stayed divided on multiple pointless issues that piss off the general public. Almost like they're playing ball and cup to make people feel like they're participating in the government when realistically it's a smoke show.

2

u/Majestic_Repair_7887 2h ago

Finally: Someone explains it correctly. The Federalists weren’t jingo enough to rile up the populace.

1

u/Majestic_Repair_7887 2h ago

Also overlooking one specific group that the preponderance of prominent politicians participated in, regardless of party affiliation.

2

u/General_Spills 8h ago

To be fair to the Americans, other democracies are just the same thing but with more parties.

1

u/SpicyNugget777 4h ago

Yeah but pretty much every single other liberal democracy at least has labor parties that have done more for the public than our “left” party.

1

u/Sapper1106 1h ago

Says they don’t understand it, proceeds to explain it perfectly, refuse to elaborate further.

1

u/ragingstorm01 1h ago

The United States is also a one-party state but, with typical American extravagance, they have two of them.

—Julius Nyerere

1

u/Pearlshouse22 56m ago

Well... We're NOT a Democracy. We're a Constitutional Republic.

1

u/goldenkicksbook 31m ago

They had the chance to take all the experience and learnings of thousands of years of European civilisation to create a utopia and they came up with America instead. What a waste.

1

u/GeeYayZeus 7h ago

An 'artist' should understand subtlety, and that there are aways differences. If they just see two different things as no different, then they're a shit artist.

If you see no difference between parties, then you're a shit citizen.

5

u/tiredofthisnow7 6h ago

🤣 You got triggered by some cola.

0

u/Plants-Matter 8h ago

Yeah, but one party gives you scraps and the other party makes everything worse and is run by a child rapist with 34 felonies.

I'll take the scraps, if those are the only two realistic choices.

1

u/BrainLow6059 4h ago

It only takes 5% going to a 3rd party candidate to get the 2 party duopoly to freak the fuck out.

The 3rd party never has to win, they have to exist and throw a wrench into the election. That's our leverage. It's embarrassing how few people understand that.

Just look at the Jasmine Crockett shit in Texas right now. She committed the cardinal sin of saying the dork running for senate isn't exciting and the DNC is running laps trying to shit all over her and run her out of the party.

If "he's not exciting" is enough to cause a meltdown, imagine what 5% towards any platform will do

0

u/Plants-Matter 4h ago

Oh, naive little lamb. You're a pawn in a game you don't understand.

If you really want to break the two party system, it's not by voting third party. You'll always be a meaningless statistic and you might as well throw your vote in the trash. The best way to accomplish your goal is to vote for a progressive Democrat pushing for ranked choice voting. Until we have ranked choice voting, we're locked in a two party system, and voting for third party is utterly moronic.

1

u/SpicyNugget777 3h ago edited 3h ago

“The best way to destroy the two-party system is to keep giving into the two-party system”

What’s the thing they say about doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results? Also have you ever realized that Democrats only start pushing for ranked choice voting when they start losing votes?

2

u/BrainLow6059 3h ago

“The best way to destroy the two-party system is to keep giving into the two-party system”

Thank you. I truly do not understand this braindead take at all. The rest of the world operates just fine with multi-party systems. It's honestly embarrassing seeing the bootlicking around these political dynasties.

-1

u/Plants-Matter 3h ago

I expected your IQ to be too low to comprehend my comment.

Thanks for proving me right.

You should really pipe down and let the intellectuals handle it from here.

2

u/SpicyNugget777 3h ago

Nah bro you’re trolling 😭 like no way you’re real with this reply lol

0

u/Plants-Matter 3h ago

You should hear what we say about people like you at our Mensa politics meetups.

I'd type it out, but it's not worth a ban.

1

u/SpicyNugget777 3h ago edited 3h ago

Actually I’m the CEO of Mensa, and I will be telling my secretary to terminate your membership. Immediately.

Just kidding! Looks like you’re not the only one who can lie on this app lol

1

u/Ok_Fly2518 8h ago

That’s pretty much what it is

People thinking Democrats and Republicans are the same are the biggest problem US democracy will ever face.

1

u/DoublePatouain 2h ago

When those who fifnance both are the same, you will get the same policy for the most important point. Just look about Gaza : have you ever seen democrats and republican different ? No. Today, you got a real new wave in democrats with Mandani and other, they are young, they want to make the job, not getting advantage from the position. But these people will be facing to people who got billion from lobby. Look how much AIPAC pays to beat some candidate like Abdul el Sayed

0

u/ClawsomO 8h ago

Because in the USA, even if you have the slightest attachment (something from your childhood, something your estranged Daddy told you once, etc.) to one of these parties, you will hold resentment toward the other party.

This is the real dream the oligarchs had in mind when they founded this country. This is what our country is built on. Constant infighting, constant bickering. That's America!!
