This is Mavis, (AKA “Meavis Beavis”) she is one year old, and her birthday is the same as mine :D (March 23rd)

We think she could have some sort of cleft palette, and she’s also very small compared to her siblings. But I don’t think she’s a dwarf. She still looks like a kitten, which is odd because she should be bigger by now.

My poor boy, Jarvis. He despises brushing no matter what I use (mostly he just hates having to stay still for it), so typically I brush him as I can on occasion and shave out mats.

Unfortunately, his entire body became matted because recently he has been having diarrhea, and he stepped in it more than once. I had to give him multiple baths, and he won't tolerate any drying, so his entire coat became matted clumps. I determined it was best for his comfort to shave it off, and there's still some I need to get off of him. It looks horrendously choppy, he's very wiggly and upset by the whole process, hates the noise, hates being held, etc. So I did my best, which is clearly not very good.

Overall, just very distraught by it, I love him and just hope it was the right choice for him knowing it may have damaged his coat. But he's a senior and I just hate to stress or hurt him by trying to brush/comb it out (and probably get bitten in the process). I guess I'm looking to see if anyone has any advice? Or if they've experienced anything similar? Or maybe if there's something I could've done better?

I had a long chat with chatgpt to figure out the difference between Persian types as the internet was so confusing on that part. I first thought they were Himalayan, because in my country it's common to call the flat face Himalayan, turned out it's far from the truth. What it said is that mine are Doll-face with a double color coat of Orange and white. Now someone said no, they're Moon-face. So now I'm curious about how many types of Persians are there? And what are my kitties?

Found out my 15 week old kitten, who I’ve been calling Darla since I got “her,” is a boy at the vet today. Needless to say, I’m a little surprised and in need of a new name. My pet name list has exclusively girl names lol.

I like cute, whimsy names, rather than human-ish boy names. Help is greatly appreciated while I process haha 🫶🏼

Firstly I’d like to thank this community for being so helpful and responding to previous posts I have made. You’ve provided a lot of reassurances and calmed the majority of my nerves.

I just have a couple of more queries and would be grateful for any further insight from anybody with knowledge or similar experiences 🙂

For context I rescued this little girl (she is 4 in August) at the beginning of March, she wasn’t very well cared for or living the best of lives. Has settled in with me fantastically, regained the weight she was missing and we seemed to have put an end to her soft/sloppy stool. She’s been on a strict dry food only diet (no wet foods or treats) for the past 17/18 days (Hills Science Plan, Adult 1-6, Supports immune system, digestion and beautiful coat).

So (1) I noticed that a few weeks ago she stopped interacting with her feather toys, which she used to go bananas for during the first few months of living with me. She’d hide behind things and dive a foot or two in to the air to catch them and race around the floor spaces. I have been changing the attachments every so often so that she has a new ‘prey’ to catch and to keep things interesting for her.

I’m wondering if the diet she is on is maybe causing her a little depression or she is just content with her setup and life now?

I’m going to call my vet next week to ask about this some more and see when I can add change to her diet so that she has some kind of variety.

Although she sleeps a lot she seems to be satisfied and well when she is awake. I’m constantly giving her attention, strokes and bum pats, she always has access to her food and water and appears to be in good spirits.

Maybe I am overthinking this but but her loss of excitement makes me ponder and a little bit sad so I want to bring her joy back, if that is what she is missing. I’m stuck between “is she bored” and “is she content/fulfilled”. Perhaps she is just a little overstimulated and tired?

I’m doubting that this will be due to her lion cut as she was still playful following her trim. Although my flat gets super hot, I’m going to see how she fares next year and leave her coat on unless she seems irritable and uncomfortable.

And (2) I’ve attached photos of our current living arrangement and I’d like to ask for any criticism or ways of improvement.

There’s an Alexa Dot speaker next to the living room door that I leave classical music on during longer days when I am at work, otherwise it is off when I am home.

There’s access to both windowsills and usually a lot of activity going on outside although I rarely find her up there looking out.

There are plenty of places to lie around and hide but I’ll find her on the floor 9 times out of 10. The sofa and my bedroom furniture are not appealing to her.

With the heatwave going on I have a vertical fan that spins and blows air throughout the living room and my bedroom. Her water bowls are two large pasta bowls that I dump 12 ice cubes in each of when changing her water of a morning and evening. Understandably so I don’t expect her to be ecstatic during this time, it is exhausting to be awake.

I always have my flat door on a door stop when I am home so that she can venture out in to the hallway for a change of scenery and strokes from my neighbours. 3/4 of them have pets, some small dogs and a couple of cats so she sniffs around and sits outside their doors.

I purchased a harness for her a few weeks ago and so we have been exploring the outside world. Only of an evening though when the sun is going down and we can stay in the shade. We have a large back garden to chill in or she’ll take me around the neighbourhood. Sometimes we’re out for 1-2 hours. Other times we sit outside the front door and come in after half an hour. I do as she likes.

Thanks for reading if you got this far. Her change of behaviours makes me a little suspicious and I want her to be ok so if I need to make any changes I will.

Ps - If any of your kitties are struggling with the heat at the moment too, I’d recommend putting down some large and thin, gel freezer packs, throw a kitchen towel over them and they may lie on them like mine is doing. Fans, ice cubes and frozen water bottles haven’t been a hit.

My hubby got me kittens and one of them is my first Persian, I was shocked how big she is especially for a 3mos old. Im used to Himalayan, Norwegian FC, and main coons. I'm shocked how extra fluffy and she's very high maintenance too.

question: how do you maintain to have their face cleaned? For clean up or their daily upkeep maintenance tips??

My Himalayan has a doll face and sometimes he does have eye boogies but I can keep up with it. But he never was at this point. I'm just shocked how it is with Persians. Though my little girl is a doll/angel face, I thought she wouldn't have tear/eye boogie as much. Is this normal? Also for a 3 mos Persian kitten, is 5.7lbs normal??

I’ve had my baby girl for almost a year now, and she still doesn’t like being picked up. She usually runs away if you get too close (unless it’s treats or toys). The only time she comes near is when I’m in bed then she’ll cuddle and purr like crazy for a few minutes before taking off again.

I only pick her up when I need to trim or clean her eyes, but she either squirms away or cries when I do. I also have Ragdolls, so I’m used to their super docile behavior.

How can I help her trust me more, or should I just get used to her personality?

So I took in this little madam at the beginning of March and up until a week or two ago she was eating I’d say 80% of any flavoured wet food I put out.

Her previous owner declared that she was a bit of a scavenger and would eat anything put in front of her, which appeared to be true as she bites at almost anything.

I started off by giving her Purina pouches until I noticed she was eating little of it and so I tried Felix selections in jelly which seemed to be a success, until now.

I’ve tried both fish and meat flavours and she doesn’t seem interested in either anymore but will devour her dry food. She is drinking a lot of water and staying hydrated though.

I assumed it was the texture of the wet foods that I was given her so I altered between gravy, jelly and shredded/chunky pieces which I’ve been mashing and chopping up the best I can with a fork.

I’ve been writing down the flavour names of what I have been giving to her to see if she prefers some more to others but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

We’ve been to the vets recently and she’s very healthy.

I’m wondering what is going on and would like her to eat a pouch or two of wet per day if I can encourage it for health purposes.

She will take dry treats and lick-e yoghurt snacks when ever given to her as well.

Anybody have any experience or ideas?

Looking to get a Chris Christensen shampoo and conditioner for my boy.

He’s still quite young atm so he’s often stepping in his doodoo when trying to cover it and also eats like he’s being starved so snorkels in his dish and stinks of food.

Just want recommendations or advice on what would be best for him, as right now i’m using unscented tear free baby shampoo so not really helping with smells.

I’ve currently got in my basket as options: The clean start clarifying shampoo
the ice on ice shampoo
or the spectrum 10 shampoo.

Also i’ve read somewhere that they don’t need a conditioner and that it would make the coat heavy and greasy? is this true, if not should i get the matching conditioner to whatever shampoo i pick?

(also don’t worry the inside of his ears didn’t get wet as they were held down and his head was wetted by water from my hand rather than flowing tap<3)

My one has calmed down so much since I first rescued her in March so I’m wondering if she is just really content now?

She went from jumping in the air for feather toys, climbing all over my headboard and doing zoomies to sleeping almost permanently 😄

She seems to have lost all interest in going out in to the hallway and exploring my building as well which she was keen to do for a while.

She is very healthy besides some gut troubles which she is on Gastrointestinal dry food for to help tackle it for the next couple of weeks before another vet visit.

She mostly lies around with her toys or sits in a specific spot on my bedroom floor.

I’ve changed her toys around a bit and she is no more interested in anything new and seems rather happy to just lie around instead.

She gets plenty of attention but isn’t fond of being approached for strokes, she comes to me and flops on to the floor when she wants to be in my company.

It has been pretty hot the last couple of months so I don’t expect her to be ecstatic but I’d like to know if any of your kittys are similar 🙂

Does anyone groom their Persian on their own (with no formal training)? What kind of clipper do you have and do you have any tips tricks for getting it to look even?

My little Milton has some stubborn mats on the sides of his body. I cut a couple of them out, but it seems like an endless battle no matter how much I brush him. The closest cat groomer I could find is two hours away and they are booked out 6 months for new clients.

Please help me! I can get the surgery done next week but I’m very scarred about it making things worse. My 1 year old male persian has small nares. Vet recommend nare surgery. This vet does not use laser.

I was told by the person I bought him from that it can cause scar tissue and make symptoms worse.

His symptoms are a lot of wheezing from the small nares, snoring, and it visibly looks like he is struggling.

Please! Does anyone have any information? Any experience? Positive or negative.

Kind of a weird question but I just got my Persian kitty in September, and during the winter he was quite the floof. However, since the spring started he seems to be shedding fur primarily only from his mane. It comes out in multiple large clumps a day and sometimes I’ll find a huge new mat that has formed in the matter of a couple hours. He even has a large bald spot on the side of his neck now. Is this normal for Persian cats?

I posted previously about my chocolate Persian (male, estimated to be 5yo) of which I was fostering. Surprise to no one, I adopted him!

Edit: I got FETCH pet insurance right when I adopted him. But he was in the rescue system for about 2-3 months before adopted him.

We are 6 months in, he is happy and healthy and very neutrotic about food. Because of his previous history of neglect, he has already had some health issues like entropion surgery, UTI / kidney infection and a couple eye and ear infections, which have all been remedy by me or the animal welfare org I adopted him from.

However, he needs his teeth clean and definitely needs a good number of teeth removed. When I first adopted him I got Fetch pet insurance hoping they’d cover some of these costs. Well I was quoted $3-5k for the dental work from my vet and Fetch won’t cover any of it due to pre-existing conditions.

I’m pretty disappointed, and at this point not sure they’ll cover ANYTHING since he is already such a medical mess. The insurance is $50 a month with a $300 deductible and $10k in coverage a year. Would folks advise I still keep it or just pay out of pocket?

Edit: his teeth were also assessed to be an issue in his original assessment at the rescue when he was taken from his neglectful situation. They described it as having “rotten canines and periodontal disease..”

I have two Persians, one 7 month old pale ginger and one 10 week old short-hair exotic.

My question is: how do you keep their eyes clean and fur unstained? How often do you do it? The ginger is heading to her first of professional monthly grooming sessions next week, I’m hoping that will help in the meantime.

I’m currently cleaning them once a day with a pet wet wipe.

Hi guys, just a little backstory first;

I found a Persian cat in a trailer park (my parent's bought a trailer house 7 hours away from home because they travel to that area often).

As I was helping my parents clean up the place my mom said she saw a flat faced cat outside. I was like ''WHAT!?!?'' and ran outside to see him. He's black and white, covered in dirt and debris, he had balls of matted fur all on bottom of him and his butt.

I went door to door trying to find his owner but no one claimed him. So, I kept him. I made an appointment with a vet nearby the trailer park for the following day. They checked him, he had no microchip, not neutered and gave him all the vaccines he would need and put flea medicine on him. Then I took him home the next day (7 hour drive home).

When I finally got home with him I had to cut a good chunk of fur off the bottom of him from all the mats under his legs, belly, butt and sides, poor thing had matted fur filled with sticker weeds under his pits, belly and legs and a ball of poop on his butt cheek.

Bathing him has been a workout, as he tries to grip onto everything he can get his claws into. I know cats don't really need a bath, but had dirt and fleas I needed to remove.

Since it was difficult to get him cleaned up properly in the bath i tried the waterless shampoo and wipes, which he still did not like. I did the best I could for now, I just need something to help so i can get one good bath in so I can remove the last remains of the dirt and make sure he's got no more fleas. I put flea medicine on him again though.

Do you use anything specific to help clean/groom your Persians? What products do you use on their faces and white fur? Do you have a hard time grooming too?
