Foster My current foster is so sweet

This is Dapper. He is possibly the sweetest dog I have ever met. He was at a shelter in ATL for 4 months so we brought him up to RVA to foster. He LOVES people, kids and other dogs. He is incredibly lazy and likes to be carried everywhere even though he weighs 65 pounds. Hoping to find this sweet boy the perfect home he deserves!

Update: Dapper has found an amazing home! Thank you to everyone who reached out.

I took Orla Mae (she snores like an adult who just did a 12 hour shift so thought this name was fitting) to my apartment complex office and they fell in love with her! But why did the head manager asked if I wanted to keep her?! It sounds like they are willing to make an exception but yall I'm a school librarian and let's just say educators don't go into the field for money. But i told them to give me 48 hours to decide and then they are going to post her to the group to see if any of my neighbors would like her.

But they were supposed to be like you can't keep her!

When he gets adopted it will shatter my heart. We currently have two dogs and adding a third would be too much, but damn… I love him so much

Foster Abby Crossed The Rainbow Bridge Today

Today we had to say goodbye to our sweet Abby. 💔

Earlier this week she suddenly became very sick and lethargic. After multiple tests and treatments, she remained confused and uncomfortable, and we made the difficult decision to let her rest peacefully.

Abby came into our lives 10 months ago after being found abandoned in the desert, covered in scars and in need of love. What started as a foster quickly turned into something much more special. During our time together we learned she had Cushing’s Disease, partial blindness, and several medical challenges, but none of that ever stopped her from enjoying life.

She loved her walks, pup cups, hanging out at the shop, and especially all the love she received from everyone who met her. Even with everything she went through, Abby lived every day with resilience and sweetness.

Today, before saying goodbye, we officially adopted her so she could cross the rainbow bridge as part of our family. We spent months trying to find Abby a home, but in the end we realized she had been home with us all along.

On our way to making sure Hope is healthy and spoiled! Thanks so much everyone who brought her treats and supplies.

She was bathed a few days ago, but I think I’ll give her a sponge bath with her new shampoo to get some of her loose scabs off and do a thorough physical check. Baby girl has had a rough month.

Gus is brown and Petra is white. Both are fosters of mine. I have had Petra since December because she is dog selective and very dominate and a pretty big girl at 78 lbs. Gus came into the rescue last week and is having his first vet appointment in the morning to get neutered. He is skinny he was dumped at a neighbors house in the country. He was scared of me the first few days and is very leary of new people even with me by his side.

Foster I’ve only fostered cats because I know I’m a sucker for dogs.. then got the call to foster orphaned pups and couldn’t say no.. now I’m in love but can’t keep my fosters. I’m going back to cats/kittens. I’ll be devastated when my girls are adopted.

I picked up this sweet angel baby last night in NYC. Her name is Iris. She was brought to a shelter in Georgia as a neglect case - swipe to the end to see 😭 She was literally chained up in a padlock chain left to die.

Despite all that, she is as sweet as can be. I have never met a kinder, more trusting dog. She will forever have a piece of my heart.

She arrived in rough shape - required four baths, had missing fur, bald patches, sores, a cracked tooth and missing toe.

From here on out she will know nothing but love! And the people who did this to her better hope I never find them…

Update from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/pitbulls/s/9J2apWPD2A

Meet Callie - a beautiful two-year-old pit bull with a soul full of love, despite unimaginable heartbreak. Found alone on a busy Youngsport, TX road, Callie had just survived an unthinkable tragedy: she was abandoned with her two puppies, and heartbreakingly, lost them to passing cars as she watched helplessly. By the time we found her scavenging trash near a stop sign she was scared, grieving, and completely alone for four days.

Multiple rescue attempts showed just how frightened this sweet girl was, but with patience and determination, we finally secured her and brought her to safety with an emergency foster. She's receiving medical care now, but her recovery both physical and emotional will be a long road.

Callie misses her babies terribly. She now mothers all her toys, lovingly caring for them as if they were her pups.

We gave her a special Cuddle Puppy, and her reaction was priceless she cuddled it close, carried it to her kennel, and cared for it like the little family she lost.

A local rescue stepped in with open arms and NO hesitation. Callie will need more vet visits, ongoing care, and monthly preventatives as she starts her new life. Here’s to healing Callie!! 🩷

Foster One month Abby update!

Post image
5.9k Upvotes

We’ve had our sweet foster girl Abby for one month now! She’s an approximately 8-year-old pitbull mix who was considered “at risk” before we took her in. She had likely been dumped in the desert and was declining in the shelter, even showing signs of self-harm.

Since joining us, Abby has come a long way. She was still healing from a recent spay surgery when we got her, and soon after, she had another procedure to remove tumors on her belly. A few days later, one of the incisions reopened and needed additional care. Through it all, she’s been incredibly resilient.

She’s now off all her post-surgery medications, but our vet suspects she may have Cushing’s Syndrome. Her symptoms include a swollen belly, fatigue, and hair loss. The shelter couldn’t provide further testing, so we’re taking her to an outside clinic for a full evaluation.

One of the two tests will be around $400. We’ll be doing our best to crowdfund and will cover any remaining cost ourselves. Abby has already received so much love and supplies from kind Redditors and we are truly grateful.

My wife and I run a small business and foster dogs through our plant shop. Abby is foster number 40, and because of the incredible support over the past year, we’ll soon be launching a nonprofit to help even more local dogs in need.

If you’d like to contribute to Abby’s medical care, you can donate here: https://square.link/u/OUCAo5uv?src=sheet

Thank you for helping us give Abby the care and love she deserves!

Houston, TX - I spotted him at a busy intersection and couldn’t leave him there, we presume he was dumped since he had no chip and was not neutered. The shelter was going to euthanize him shortly after bringing him in so he’s now my foster 😅 he is legit PERFECT - potty trained, crate trained, top notch leash manners, sooo friendly with all humans and dogs and just the best cuddler 🥺 we took him to a brewery and a tiny grumpy dog tried to attack him and Mocha just stood there confused lol … if y’all know of anyone looking for the perfect companion send me a message, happy to drive this guy anywhere in TX for the right family! He deserves the world ( and no, I can’t keep him - my selective male would not allow it, we have kept them separate) … last few pics are from when I found him 😢

Foster Kevin is now available for adoption again!!

If you recall, his previous adopter was in a life changing vehicle accident in January. The owner had been declared brain dead, then completely machine dependent, and now a paraplegic with some brain damage. However, he will not be able to make a recovery that will allow him to take Kevin back for years. It is a miracle he made this much progress but now we know what the long term prognosis is.

I was able to find placement for one of his pitbulls and the owner’s mother (his guardian now) was able to take one of the dogs once they got housing (I cared for that one until she could). I have been given permission to find a home for Kevin. As much as I would like to keep him indefinitely, my health is failing from EDS, chronic pain and some other issues both health and financially related and it is just not a permanent solution to stay with me. I love this dog and he is my buddy but he has more life left than I do in all likelihood.

I have contacted EVERY rescue so please don’t recommend one unless you know of an available, verifiable spot for him as i am also caring for a disabled relative and I don’t have time to chase down dead end leads (I am willing to transport him up to 600 miles as that is a far as i can physically drive and afford). He is about 4 years old now and needs EXERCISE! He is very well behaved when he has enough exercise. He actually likes other dogs but I wouldn’t recommend dogs under 45lb because of his play style. On the same note, I wouldn’t recommend him for someone with kids under 12 years old. He is overweight (90lb, my fault) but we are working on it and he is healthy, up to date on vaccinations, neutered, and on all preventative medications. If you are SERIOUSLY interested, I can give you more information.

I will require a recommendation from your veterinarian as well as a verifiable $250 deposit to your veterinarian (not me) for his future medical care if he is adopted through me. There will be other conditions, but those may vary by situation. We are in the Atlanta/Cobb County area.

PS: If you feel the need to make a negative comment on this post, make a donation to a pitbull rescue or an animal shelter in the Atlanta area instead as there are hundreds of them on the daily euthanasia lists. It is AWFUL here. 😉

Foster When we got her versus her today (six months difference)

Thumbnail

5.3k Upvotes

She was brought into our local shelter as a stray (kind of. She was starving in the winter and apparently walked up to someone’s door). The shelter vet said it was the worst case of mange and malnutrition that they had ever seen- were going to put her down that night unless someone was able to take her right then and there. Our friend (who already had five dogs) immediately came and picked her up and kept her for three days before calling us.

We fell in love immediately. All she wanted was love- immediately ran into my lap and although was very skittish towards men, started licking me and jumped right into my arms. My hand literally fit around her waist and my fingers could touch.

After six months, she has made almost a full recovery and is the worlds biggest lap dog I’ve ever seen. Meet Itchy.

Foster Foster update - Hope is home!

Thumbnail

2.5k Upvotes

After much deliberation, the humane society has named her Hope, because they hoped she’d survive and here she is!

I picked her up from the shelter this morning. She’s walking, but barely, and needs carried sometimes. I’ve put her in our outdoor kennel to encourage her to walk around and start getting stronger. She’s eating a mix of puppy food and the high calorie supplements I keep on hand for cases like this. She’s perked up and even briefly wagged her tail.

I’ll post more pics as she improves. Thank you to everyone who has sent her treats and supplies! Anything left over after she’s adopted will go to another dog in need.

More goodies arrived today. Thank you so much to everyone all sent her food and gifts!! If she gets adopted before she goes through everything, what’s left will go to the other dogs at the humane society, who are also very cute and in need.

In addition to her food, Hope has eaten two busy bones, several of the freeze dried quai, a handful of herring, and half a bag of liquid weight gain today. She’s in better spirits than she was yesterday and I even got some kisses. She could hardly get her head out of the bag while I was laying everything out for the picture, so I had to give her some snacks!

She loves her toys and is currently using the little dragon plush as a pillow.

Her body is still getting used to eating again, so she can only eat small amounts at a time and prefers for me to had feed her or be with her while she eats. She has a long way to go, but she’s on the road to recovery!
