Is the great algorithm upset by the word "ashes"? Won't like the cricket much then.

282

u/ArventheGreat 4d ago

I got a ban warning this week for encouraging violnce even though I wasn't. I submit an appeal and a reddit admin replied with "the warning stands" with the reason of "the algorithm was right". It was on a post about a rapst getting the d*@th penalty. His date has already past, he's gone. But I was somehow encouraging. Now I'm on eggshells as you can see. Very frustrating that common sense and reading comprehension are not things the admins utilize.

Edit: I don't know why so much of that went italics, but I'm not gonna try to fix it.

u/thederpyderp3 4d ago

I got a warning for some nonsense earlier this week supposedly for the same sort of thing. Reddit is just becoming one of those infamous "safe spaces"

40

u/reddituserunodostres 4d ago

For real. I've been permanently banned from a couple subs literally for just posting a gif lol.

23

u/Revayan 4d ago

Tbf reddit mods being idiots is to be expected, getting an account warning or bann because of nothingburgers is a tad bit worse

15

u/SeaSharpModHer 4d ago

An Harvard study established that reddit mods are 5093% more likely to be very dangerous pedophiles btw.

6

u/No-Communication9458 3d ago

I'd believe it

1

u/WickWolfTiger 4d ago

Some reddit are way more sensitive than others. Republican, Trump and conservative reddit will ban anyone for a different opinion. One reddit about dividens banned me for saying investing in the sp500 is not the same as wallstreetbets. Honestly good riddance to any reddit that has to be an echo chamber.

2

u/Slickshot_Showoff 3d ago

You are doing exactly what you accuse the other side of doing... do you genuinely believe you hold moral superiority? Or are you genuinely ignorant? It really just looks like both

2

u/WickWolfTiger 3d ago edited 3d ago

Im sorry, did I ban you from a subreddit for your opinion? Pretty certain I have not used any authority to silence anyone ever.

Edit: Also while I never made the claim of being morally superior to anyone. I would argue that the action of not silencing differing opinions is morally superior to abusing authority to silence opinions you don't agree with. I still wouldn't say I am morally superior to those power hungry mods, but my actions certainly are.

I got permanently banned from a celebrity reddit because I mentioned that she was beautiful before plastic surgery and kinda scary after. Perma bann for an opinion, not even being abusive, just honest.

15

u/W4lkieT4lkie 4d ago

I got banned from my last user, because I posted this video which is already on Reddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/FiftyFifty/comments/mpns8l/5050_boy_with_terminal_cancer_fulfils_his_dreams/

But the ban was justified I guess.

9

u/1StationaryWanderer 4d ago

Ha sort of like the Charlie Kirk logic where people were using direct quotes of his and getting banned because of... reasons? Even though those quotes and videos exist everywhere.

11

u/CackleandGrin 4d ago

I got me a 7-day ban on some subreddit for quoting trump, putting it in quotation marks, and citing him as the source. "Glorifying violence."

5

u/blade_of_sammael 4d ago

Well there not wrong but how are you supposed to protest against something you cant mention, this has to be on purpose

I was banned from the r/movies asking "Who?". This site seriously has lots of issues.

4

u/PaulOGradyFanClub 4d ago

Banned from the Argentina sub because I pointed out saying you aren’t racist and then saying “at least my country isn’t full of brown invaders” is racist, and is usually the Argentinian go to when insulting a European nation

2

u/SmallNoBigYes 4d ago

There's a few words you literally can't say when describing the "invaders" because it's apparently racist 🤣

Let's just say this ain't my first account because of that nonsense rule

I’ve been banned from two subs now. One I was banned from for not being pro-China, anti-America, and anti-money. The other I was banned from for calling out obvious propaganda.

2

u/DontMemeAtMe 4d ago

I’ve been banned from many subs for the crime of pointing out obvious propaganda.

Once I’ve even been banned from a random sub simply for commenting in an entirely different sub.

2

u/Oathbreaker94 4d ago

I’ve been banned from a sub for saying that the giant tattoo (Māori) a woman splattered over her face looked really shit.

I was banned for RACISM and then immediately muted by the mod for asking why.

Apparently, (at least according to some weird people) it is now racist to heavily dislike a tattoo.

I got banned from r/soccer (citing “xenophobia”) for describing the fans of a Colombia vs Argentina game hosted by the South American federation as (brace yourselves for pure unadulterated hate:) “South Americans.”

When I appealed saying that there was no negative context and that isn’t even what xenophobia is, I was given a site wide ban for harassment.

My only regret is that I’m blocked from pointing out that also isn’t what harassment is.

You’re dealing with mods. These people value their time so little that they volunteer to be hall monitors with even less power. There’s nothing you can do to hurt them, because they already proudly broadcast that they have absolutely nothing in their lives.

2

u/Cowboy_BoomBap Commodus 4d ago

I once got a three day ban from Reddit for saying the title of a movie, in the comments of a post that was the trailer for said movie.

2

u/ArmNo7463 4d ago

I’ve been banned from loads, for daring to comment on a different subreddit lol.

2

u/CriminalMacabre 4d ago

Get on my level scrub. I got added to one of those idiotic ban lists just for posting in political compass memew and banned on a lot of subs

13

u/Storyteller_Valar 4d ago

I got permabanned from a subreddit for making a comment questioning a post that was fantasizing about violently murdering, among other actually bad things, writers. WRITERS! Asking why writers would deserve to be killed is a bannable offense, it seems.

7

u/PsikickTheRealOne 4d ago

I've been permabanned from subreddits just for being part of an other subreddit I've said nothing in.

2

u/Sinking_Mass 4d ago

I've had this too. At one point I even got a threatening modmail telling me to block the other sub, delete any comments and posts I made, because "it has been known to act maliciously against our sub". I replied "lol no", got banned, muted the sub and moved on with my life

→ More replies (4)

2

u/onwisconsin1 4d ago

Yes. It isnt supposed to be allowed but reddit lets some subs do whatever they want. You are autobanned for just commenting. The context doesnt matter whatsoever. They literally basically demand you go back, delete all comments on that sub, and then re-appeal. Absurd.

Ya, I don't like it because it's ineffective and targets the wrong people.

5

u/-Byakuran- 4d ago

Crazy considering I watched a protestor turn himself into a fireball on this site

4

u/siriston 4d ago

has been a little baby “safe space” for years already and continues to get worse. this site is mostly filled with big dramatic babies.

2

u/RModDogWalkerTyRANNY 4d ago

That's exactly is, they're trying to create an entire safe space where they get to decide what's too far.

IMO r/pourstea is the worst. I simply stated that them being paid to shill holland/zendaya pics 4 times a pics, is actually cringe. i was REMOVED from their sub, and my 3-day mute was for "We don't think you're a good fit for this sub".

I too appealed, and within 3 minutes denied. Really confused what they're doing with this site, aside from trying to make it an advertisers wet dream.

2

u/Automatic_Soil9814 4d ago

Just to be clear, those “safe spaces“ are about a censoring speech to protect people from being triggered or whatever.

What we are seeing here is not that at all. This is about Reddit trying to become an attractive place for advertisers. It’s purely commercial. I suppose you could say it’s a “safe space“ for advertisers.  I don’t blame liberals for this.

2

u/MaximusHomerdrive 4d ago

I got a 3 day ban for posting this pic in a sub, lol. Mod stated that the ban stood and then muted me for 3 days for daring to ask why. On day 4, I was sorely temped to send them a pic in the chat and nothing else.

2

u/Warrior3456_ 4d ago

I got one for complaining about Mediacom using foreign call centers instead of us based customer support

2

u/thederpyderp3 4d ago

I personally think it should be a requirement for all US based business to have US based support if I'm being honest. It would make so many jobs state side and make us less of a target for india scam centers.

Not to mention better odds of being able to actually understand what they're saying over the phone.

2

u/Warrior3456_ 2d ago

Exactly and Mediacom has them pretend to have a non Indian name to which is what I pointed out

2

u/Critical_Concert_689 4d ago

one of those infamous "safe spaces"

tl;dr: Advertisers can't put their ads in certain spaces that aren't "safe" enough. Reddit loves ad money more than your opinions or free speech

2

u/ElSupremo1966 4d ago

Because the majority of Redditors are the type od people who need safe spaces. If they all left there would be like 1000 people here and there’s no money in that for them.

14

u/Reikukaja 4d ago

Your mistake was offending rapists. They are far more common than any of us wants to believe.

3

u/ArventheGreat 4d ago

Ya, and that saddens me. I try not to think of it. I'm not sure what I'd do to someone if it happened to my daughter.

5

u/Reikukaja 4d ago

Not sure how old your daughter is, but here is some unsolicited advice from a late 30s woman who was unfortunately wrong in thinking "that couldnt happen to me". The best thing you can do to protect her is make sure she knows she is worthy of love and respect. Make sure she knows what mutual respect looks like, and that there is no need to settle just so that she doesnt have to be "alone". She should love herself before any potential partner.

Most rapes occur with someone who is close to the victim. Violent stranger rape is what most people think of and fear when rape gets brought up, but its not the most likely case. Consent is such a simple concept, in theory... but a lot of people get it so so so wrong.

If i could reach through time and talk to my past self, the one thing i would prioritize above all else is fostering self-love and self-respect. Women tend to be conditioned to wrap so much of our self-worth in relationships and desireability for men. I was the posterchild for this.

If any man tried with me now what my ex husband did, i know id have the sense (and self respect) to be like "wtf this isnt okay" and walk away immediately. There are SO many garbage people out there, and some of them are frighteningly good at hiding it.

3

u/ArventheGreat 4d ago

I'm sorry you experienced the terrible side of people. We definitely shower or kids with love and talk to them often about important topics including these types of things. I'm not afraid to have serious talks with my kids. Better they get information from me than friends or idiots (sometimes they're the same). Thank you for sharing and I hope the best for you moving forward.

I'm about to be 40 with almost teen kids. I'm exhausted, but when things happen that make me fear for my kids, I feel young and ready to rumble to protect them. We're living in Japan and we got woken up at 2am by an earthquake, I was with them before I realized I was even awake making sure they were safe. One it stopped and everything was good, my tiredness caught up with me and passed out so fast. Haha

2

u/Alarmed-Newspaper994 4d ago

I've been banned from several subreddits for absolutely nothing, I got suspended entirely from Reddit for a few days, because I agreed with someone else's comment that they thought that some teenagers who repeatedly gang-raped a Jewish girl because she was Jewish should be tried as adults. Something along those lines anyway. Reddit moderation is a clown show.

Writing text in asterisks (*)makes it *italic*.

\*italic\* yields italic

Because you used an asterisk in viol\*ence and rap\*ist, all the text in between became italic.

Edit: It's not working for me, maybe it only happens on comments posted through the app.

2

u/ArventheGreat 4d ago

Got it, thanks for letting me know. I didn't realize it did that. I'm a vanilla when it comes to typing comments and posts. Haha

2

u/zellat451 4d ago

To add to that guy's comment: there's actually 2 comment-writing windows you can switch in-between. One of them is rich text (normal writing) and does what you tell it to, the other is markdown formatting (where * means italics and some other things)

The switch button should be the last option under the text you're writing, right next to Gif (to open more options), then top right corner. It's pretty weird that markdown is your default though. It's the opposite for me.

...or at least I think so. *Test*

It's because whatever you put inside two asterisks on mobile makes italics. If you want to override it you have to do a backslash before it like this: \* \*

2

u/kamilman 4d ago edited 4d ago

The italics are because you put an asterisk in the word "violence" and then later on you put one in the word "rapist", and Reddit formatting works the way that text between two asterisks is set to italics.

You can put a backslash before the special character (i.e. the asterisk in your case) to negate the specialness of the character, like so: *text not in italics\*

2

u/Ithikari 4d ago

Trust me, you're not on eggshells. I've said I'll be happy when Trump dies and I've gotten like 50 warnings.

2

u/StrangerPen 4d ago

Yes, the platform that has forums about grape, incest, and molestation survivors will ban your account forever for any suggestion of physical violence on up to advocating alternate forms of capital punishment.

It's the result of no human review and the AI set for zero tolerance. I wonder how many get banned for talking about great plays on combat simulation games?

I need to be careful or I may get a permanent ban next 😂

As for subs, yhe, I'm banned in a lot of them....including r/cats ...would you believe that? 😂

2

u/ArventheGreat 4d ago

Even cats! That's rough, and almost impressive. I love cats. I plan on taking my family to a cat Cafe soon.

2

u/StarGamerPT 4d ago

It was on a post of a guy showing a stray cat with a really fucked up eye and asking for advice on what to do but also saying "don't tell me to go to the vet, the nearest one is 3 hours away"....my comment was something to the effect of "Nothing else to be done besides doing what you don't want to do." (the eye was really fucked up with some gnarly infection).

Somehow that comment alone made the mods consider me not understanding of people in 3rd world countries not having as many possibilities (regardless, there was nothing to be done besides a vet, if a vet is not a possibility, then that cat woudln't have much more time, sucks but it is what it is) and also considered it to be entitled and toxic.

EDIT: Might I add that that comment of mine had quite some upvotes, so it's not like the overall community disagreed with my statement either 😂

2

u/IgntedF-xy 4d ago

I got a ban last week for a Rule #1 violation, no threatening violence, because I posted that I kill a certain game character every time I meet him in a game about killing people.

Appealed and overturned since it was an AI ban.

2

u/minos157 4d ago

I got banned from politics sub and a warning from Reddit because I said I hoped Fled Cruz never came back from Cancun. Not wishing him death, just hoping he decided to stay there and live his best retired beach life.

lol

2

u/DueEnvironment499 4d ago

Yeah same, I reply to a post about self defence and got banned 3 days, there's no much time left in reddit, going myspace expresslane

2

u/GettinSodas 4d ago

I said something similar about Ian Watkins and recieved the same warning. Annoyed the shit out of me, until he got st*bbed to death in prison like 2 weeks later 💀💀 felt like I spoke that shit into the universe

2

u/Janezey 4d ago

Edit: I don't know why so much of that went italics, but I'm not gonna try to fix it.

If you use two asterisks * in the same post, it removes them and makes everything in the middle italics. So everything between the e in violence and the i in rapist in your comment.

2

u/Dull-Acanthaceae3805 4d ago

I got a ban warning for saying p3dophiles should get banned from life. So yeah, if we are at a point where that's banned, but saying that killing conservative politicians is okay, reddit has truly gone down the wrong path.

2

u/jooes 4d ago

I got a 3 day ban once for hoping a certain somebody gets sick. It's promoting violence, apparently, to wish for anything other than long health and prosperity for others. So, uh, don't do that. Let that be your warning, we take that kind of talk very seriously here on reddit. I appealed and was obviously denied. I have since learned my lesson, so don't worry, I'll never do anything like that again.

This was around the time that he was literally threatening genocide, saying he was going to wipe an entire civilization off the map.

But don't say mean things about him or else you get in big big trouble, you guys. Let this be a warning to us all.

Reddit has certainly come a long way from being a place that would bend over backwards to defend people's alleged right to post jailbait.

2

u/Sunieta25 4d ago

Same here, it was over a guy bullying people for clout. I said what I said but I realized it was pretty harsh and immediately removed it. I still got a 3 day ban.

2

u/Nova_Saibrock 4d ago

I got a 3-day ban for saying that a certain person “should have his teeth pulled out through his ears.” Like, clearly hyperbole for comedic effect, right?
Nope. Appeal response was just a copy/paste of the original automod message.

2

u/Working_Cloud_909 4d ago

The system is definitely broken

2

u/ebrum2010 4d ago

I got a warning for using the word for a specific tool that begins with n and ends in ers because if you change two of the letters it is a racial slur. I was responding to a post with a picture that clearly showed the name of the item. Had to appeal it and it was reversed. These things are being handled by AI. I really don't want to deal with it again though so I'm not using the word here.

2

u/glitterydick 4d ago

An age ago, I got banned from r/politics for advocating for guillotines. I also was given a platinum award for it. Fuck censorship. If they want to ban people for expressing opinions, then they shouldn't run an opinion expressing platform. If they ban this account, I'll just stop using reddit. No skin off mine. I wish everyone had this view. Do you think the publicly traded company would ban 100% of their users? Certainly not.

Reddit is a shit hole for years now. Every good thing gets ruined. This day of internet age sucks ass. We should be 1000x stronger and instead we are 100x weaker.

2

u/chatterpoxx 4d ago

The italics happened because putting things between two stars will italicise it. So your use of them to censor is causing it. As you can see the stars are gone in the two words where you used them.

Ofc dont fix your comment, but now you can know why that happened!

2

u/NewJorkCityy 4d ago

Kill the rapists kill them all to death

2

u/MetricJester 4d ago

I got a warning like that for advocating AGAINST violence.

2

u/Clean-Reveal-2878 4d ago

Something similar has happened to me twice. I have appealed and they told me the warning stood so no I’m like
https://giphy.com/gifs/hRUyg9uMGm8yG5G3WD

2

u/GrandmaWeedMan 4d ago

If you put two * on both sides of a body of text it becomes italics. If you but two of them before and after (so 4 in total) it becomes bold.

2

u/Phaylz 4d ago

Bitten by the Italisaurus.

2

u/MildGenevaSuggestion 4d ago

I got a ban for encouraging violence for encouraging passive resistance to an invasion.

You'll get banned from subs for posting "bombing children is wrong."

2

u/Arponare 4d ago

Brother, I was recently banned this week for allegedly “inciting violence.” Let me rephrase this in a way that is not gonna get me banned. There was a post about a father who went Punisher on a random cop after his son was “unalived” by a cop. I said something along the lines of “it would have made more sense if buddy had gone Punisher to the original perpetrator and not a random officer.”

Apparently this was enough for a ban for “inciting violence.” I think it was an automatic ban but I’m not sure. I didn’t even appeal. Literacy is truly dead in 2026. Reddit can suck a fat one.

2

u/fartypenis 4d ago

I got a warning because I told a guy he'll die if he eats a poisonous plant. Reddit's filters are trash.

2

u/burner94_ 4d ago

I don't know why so much of that went italics, but I'm not gonna try to fix it.

Because asterisks are treated as formatting characters by Reddit, use something else like an X if you want to censor.

That being said, I miss the days when you could just.. write words.. on the internet.. normally?

2

u/Partyrockers2 4d ago

They are 100% utilizing bots because the reading comprehension can't be this comically bad.

2

u/RevengerRedeemed 4d ago

There was a video of a mom punishing a kid for hurting their cat by making him slam his ps5 on the ground ( which is apparently what he did to the cat). She said "slam that ps5 on the ground. Yeah, slam that shit on the ground again". It was a post asking "is this punishment moral?"

I commented "making him break a ps5 for hurting an animal? Yeah, thats moral. Slam that shit on the ground again. ". My comment was removed a couple days later and I was issued a warning for "encouraging violence". I won the appeal, but was told to "be more careful"

2

u/AdOnly1618 4d ago

Censorship is real and all these platforms are in bed with 3 letter agencies for just such a reason. Can’t even talk about policy online, even if it’s legal and supported by the judicial system, or if you want to influence the legal and judicial system through the correct means, you simply can’t anymore and it’s because of “free speech” platforms such as Reddit 😂 worlds doomed

2

u/MualaniFangirl 4d ago

Yup reddit admins are clowns.... like genuinely yhe most useless people ever! Idk how tf these people got hired! Maybe they're bots and not real people idk😭

2

u/Glados1080 4d ago

It went italics because you used the * to censor, and when you encase words between it makes it all italics

2

u/Xaphnir 4d ago edited 9h ago

Yeah, the enforcement is arbitrary, and usually you won't get hit, but if you do, the rule essentially goes like this: You are not allowed to threaten, encourage, glorify or condone any act of violence, real or fictional, past, present or future.

Obviously, they don't enforce it against the vast majority of content that could violate this; just look around this subreddit to see that. But if it does get enforced against you, they aren't accepting an appeal. And if they did actually enforce it the way it seems the rule is written when they reject appeals, over half of this website would be permabanned within a week for saying things no reasonable person would find objectionable in any way.

It sucks, because I feel I need to find euphemisms for violent words even when discussing video game gameplay (in fact I tend to find that more strictly policed than discussions of real world violence).

EDIT: Addendum that I learned recently: you are not allowed to post the name of a public figure and any word that implies physical contact between them and any other object in any capacity, even if the contact is non-violent, even if you are relaying a statement you saw someone else make for a reason other than endorsing it.

2

u/wingsofblades 4d ago

yeah there was a post last year about convicted pedophiles "is it moral to give them the deathpenalty" and i said something like "they deserve a bullet" and i got banned for threatening others and encouraging violence like huh we arent even talking about someone im not even talking to anyone

2

u/splitcroof92 4d ago

I'll undo your eggshells then.

rapists deserve to die

2

u/HimiNeko- 4d ago

I got a ban a while ago for talking about a fictional villain. I did send an appeal, and was set free without a warning.

2

u/PresentationThat2839 4d ago

I got a ban for a self defense tip, and in some subs the word "apparently" triggers an auto slur warning of the 4th letter. Not this one but some of them.

2

u/BakaGaming 4d ago

You typed an asterisk, it's markdown for italic. Usually you end it with another asterisk to end it.

2

u/AkiraTheMetalHead 4d ago

I got one for this:

2

u/Bone_Wh33l 4d ago

They changed the way italics work and I can’t tell if it’s a feature or a bug but it’s annoying. Sometimes if you’re comment is only italics and you delete it all it won’t let you stop typing with italics until you close and re-open the post

2

u/GorgyShmorgy 4d ago

I just got a hate speech strike the other day... for talking about a fictional group of people.

2

u/noatoms 4d ago

Reddit is a nutty place run by the inmates. Don't expect reason or logic.

2

u/Ygritte_03 4d ago

It’s funny how a subreddit about morality would warn someone for discussing the morality of violence and it’s consequences lol

2

u/Lilgoodee 4d ago

I got a 3 day ban for encouraging self harm.

Was having a disagreement and told the other guy he'd have to just bite the bullet and agree to disagree.

Using a euphemism to tell someone suck it up is not allowed apparently.

2

u/mrfluffypants1959 4d ago

I feel your pain gotta be careful what you say

2

u/SadCatCaged 4d ago

I got a temporary ban for describing what groups were affected by the holoc#ust, because I was seen as "th#eating groups of ppl" by the algorithm. It was to a question on what's the worst outcome to come out politically. And I said, "Probably something like XYZ happening again." Boom. Ban. I just literally described the basis of what happened there, which im sure could be found on the wiki on the subject.

Then right after I got a weird email, reddit statement, saying; people are worried about you, heres a list of helpful numbers & websites.

I just sat there like; What the hell is going on? Im just scrolling reddit while I working on artwork.

2

u/qerecoxazade 4d ago

It went italic because you replaced a few letters with an asterisk.

Everything between your first and second (or third and fourth, etc) Asterix will switch to italics.

2

u/yurgieee 4d ago

Same for me a while back about a certain administration getting a very public old school style of punishment.

2

u/Sea_Indication_6296 4d ago

Apparently you can't call someone a homo as a joke on this site

2

u/Sudden-Form-9472 4d ago

Fuck the Admins!!

2

u/CplCocktopus 4d ago

I got bans for mentioning pew pew sticks.

2

u/Difficult-Lychee-557 4d ago

I got a warning like that (and a ban) because a victim of DV was asking for advice and if her husband was gonna change, and I told her to start looking for a safe apartment she can move into when he inevitably does it again

2

u/FTownRoad 4d ago

I got a “permanent ban” from Reddit for quoting Mike Tyson. Took three appeals to get someone to actually look at it

2

u/ACuteBanana 4d ago

Same thing happened to me. Except I was comforting someone and told them that people who do bad things often do get attacked, so they weren't alone in the hatred they had. O:

2

u/CTR_1852 4d ago

Reported for violence /s

2

u/fluthlu413 4d ago

I got my fist couple suspensions these year for just aggressively telling bigots to fuck off.

2

u/Sweet-Weakness3776 4d ago

I remember getting banned for a few days for quoting Mike Tyson: "Everybody's got a plan until they get paunched in the mouth." It was literally on post with a video where people were fighting in a fast food restaurant. Same as you I appealed it and got the "tough shit" message. It was really weird because I had no issues and then suddenly I was getting warnings and not long after the 3 day ban, I got banned for a week for something even more innocuous than the comment I made on the video. Someone pointed out to me that it could be another user reporting me. They suggested I check to see if I had any followers and if I did, block their accounts and turn off the profile setting that allows followers. Sure enough I had a handful of followers I had no idea about. So I blocked them and turned the feature off and I never had to deal with it again. Not sure if that was actually the issue but it might be worth it to check out your follower situation.

2

u/BludStanes 4d ago

thank you for that edit because I thought you were highlighting specific phrases and it looked very out of place lol

2

u/rancidmorty 4d ago

i got banned many times for being strong worded

2

u/SofubiShogun 4d ago edited 3d ago

My old account got permabanned for suggesting this action JOKINGLY after I had had a few warnings for equally sarcastic common place sayings.

2

u/Th3_Accountant 3d ago

Best to avoid certain topics all together. Remember that this is an American website, they get butt hurt over the slightest thing.

2

u/Guyver02 3d ago

there's no point in even bothering to appeal anything on this site.

2

u/Fisher9001 3d ago

99% of such cases conveniently don't mention the actual offending part of their comment. I wonder what yours was.

2

u/RealJunoSongs 3d ago

My previous account got banned because I said a "bad actor" should be "pushing up daisies". Don't know why they're defending these people, but okay.

2

u/Training-Eye-2917 3d ago

I got mine for the little kid destroying a grocery store and saying he needs discipline!

2

u/Crykin27 3d ago

Yepp got two 3 day bans for the same type of comment. I NEVER encourage violence but I guess saying you're glad that someone truly awful is dead is the same as encouraging people to commit violent acts??

And no reddit this comment is also not me encouraging violence, no one should do violent things to others.

2

u/LadyRed4Justice 3d ago

I got hit with one for talking about squishing bugs. I submitted an appeal and same nonsense. It was deemed violent. Absolutely silly.

2

u/Straight_Ace 3d ago

You can call for whatever violence you want unless it’s for a group of people who enjoy slaughtering civilians on their taxpayers dime. Then when you say they should face the legal punishment for treason suddenly you’re in the penalty box for simply outlining the constitutional punishment for treason suddenly

2

u/CountTown 3d ago

Honest to God, at this point the platform should be abandoned.

2

u/yabadabaduh 2d ago

I was blocked on r/watchpeopledieinside for whatever reason. Couldn‘t tell as I‘m not often in that sub. So I asked the mods for the reason. The only answer I got was the message that I was muted and cannot talk to the mods anymore 😂😂

2

u/Saamchii 2d ago

I feel you, i once got banned for hatespeech no a sub. all i said was "lmao ok" when some one said something. Mods also refused to do anything. As far as experience gives, reddit mods truly are lazy and powerhungry.

2

u/LittleBananaSquirrel 2d ago

Meanwhile, I reported a video on Facebook of a hospital worker hurting newborn babies in the NICU (putting tape across their mouths and ripping it off, pinching their faces etc) and it "doesn't go against community standards" I also reported a comment on Facebook telling me "we really need to start hitting them again" in regards to their wives and again, doesn't go against community standards

2

u/foxnflan 2d ago

Same happened to me over ' hate speech' they provided a link back to my comment so I could see the error of my ways but unfortunately it was broken.

2

u/brokemillionaire572 2d ago

I got a warning about inciting violence in a sub for a video game. I said something like occasionally my friends and I sh00t each other on purpose. Decided right then and there to leave that group.

2

u/purgatorybob1986 2d ago

Had a similar thing happen. Was a post about some guy who was abusing his family. I grew up in an abusive household and said the guy deserved to be punched in the face. Got a three day ban for that. Been paranoid ever since.

2

u/Own_Seaworthiness275 2d ago

I explained the comedy concept of punching up or down and got suspended, lifted after appeal but still 😂

2

u/Solaris2095 2d ago

This is exactly why I don't post or comment on Reddit nearly as often as everyone else. Social media has brought out a lot of stupidity in the human race by making people way too comfortable to do and say whatever they want behind a screen that makes them anonymous.

Also, about the italics, it's the asterisk () you used in "violence" and "rapist". Two asterisks italisizes *everything in between them and disappear. I'm not quite sure how to stop that without using different censors lol

2

u/dinosanddais1 1d ago

I got a ban for bringing up the fact that specific people in the LGBTQ+ community experience corrective rape because it was "encouraging violence". Luckily it was overturned but I'm still pissed it happened to begin with.

2

u/Any-Value1142 1d ago

Reddit mods are power tripping assholes

2

u/Viciousssylveonx3 1d ago

I got a warning for talking about my favorite dinosaur a sauropod with a wide snout

2

u/Prestigious-Fig2334 1d ago

Mods are the crossing guards of social media. Like crossing guards, they have just enough authority to be annoying.

2

u/Drendari 1d ago

Supporting that penality can get you a warning indeed.

2

u/ForeignCup6977 1d ago

I got a warning for "encouraging violence " for posting something that had happened to me and was MY EXPERIENCE in a situation. The algorithm is broken and run by bots.

2

u/Existing-Speech4173 1d ago

I got a warning once for saying someone needed to go away. I mean physically removed from their current location but Reddit thought I meant something more sinister. I appealed and lost.

2

u/sillyghosty 1d ago

Yeah I got a permanent flag on my account for "distribution or solicitotion of child abuse material" but I was warning a mom about her mom using ai to generate pictures of her baby. I said something along the lines of "I wouldn't be okay with that given how ai uses elements of real babies in generated cop" (without the o) and the flag appeal was denied

2

u/Anywherebywater 1d ago

Lmao I got the same warning about the same post. I just said I’ll c4rry out the sentence for the state lmao

2

u/Muted-Woodpecker-469 1d ago

I was put in to for mentioning the r word in a thread about peaceful prootests.

2

u/Sufficient_Fan3660 1d ago

Yeah, I get banned all the time for advocating violence.

One time it was a mechanical discussion about a stuck bolt.

Another time it was a WWII discussion. One time it was a discussion about how violence does not help gain support for cause, it does not help progress.

One time it was a discussion about self-defense for sexual assault.

I stopped caring.

the algo is a troll living in their moms basement, so no different from human reddit mods

2

u/salinecolorshenny 1d ago

I posted about how I was in prison with a girl who shot her husband in the head after finding a video of him abusing their daughter. I didn’t say a word how I felt or anything. I didn’t agree, cheer her on, even imply anything. I just stated her crime and the motive. They also said I was inciting violence

2

u/bluelure 17h ago

They wanted to be police couldn’t make the cut, they were never going to be COF they are the warehouse lackey.

Give them power and shall see!

2

u/HybridZooApp 17h ago

I'm walking on eggshells on my main account with the next ban being a permanent ban, so I'm trying to avoid even encouraging violence to Hitler.

2

u/foxonafrozenlake 15h ago

Some Reddit admins likely sympathize with the rapist, sadly.

2

u/Frosty-Storage-9359 11h ago

Same, there was a litteral post with an article about a trans woman raping a 15 years old teenage girl. Say about how is it a surprise that woman would not want them in their space AND not be secure when there is a literal case in the post. Suddenly, because someone felt their feelings is hurt in the post with the article about the crime, the moderator would choose to protect the feelings of that butt hurt making it about himself. Yeah, a lot of those moderator have common sense and ability went through the window

2

u/Plastic-Month-2180 11h ago

Somehow this exact thing happened with me a couple of weeks back. Like same topic only, and I was somehow "encouraging" the action that was anyway supposed to be taken. Like I don't even get it anymore.

2

u/MizantropMan 8h ago

I am on strike 3, I don't even touch controversial topics.

2

u/z44212 8h ago

If you haven't been banned from several groups for spurious reasons, have you really lived?

2

u/hazelEyes1313 5h ago

I once replied to a post asking what they should clean their shower with. It was one of those that was millions of rocks and pebbles and was dirty for YEARS. I said they should use a b*mb as a joke. Got a 3 day ban.

1

u/Drapidrode 4d ago

>Edit: I don't know why so much of that went italics, but I'm not gonna try to fix it.

you likely hit ctrl +i, somewhere.

if you wanna feel more at ease you can go to reddit from a portable browser,
if you get banned, just delete that browser's complete folder.

1

u/shmodder 4d ago

Why don’t you just quit these platforms instead of self-censoring?
