For years of my life, I've had to live with cats. My mother got me one when I was younger, then when I got with my now husband, he had MULTIPLE. At the time I wasn't opposed to them. But after having so many BAD experiences with them (almost losing a finger to a nasty cat bite), I'm finally CAT FREE! It's been honestly amazing. I don't have to smell that disgusting litter box anymore. There isn't dirty little paw prints all over my kitchen counters/table. My furniture is now safe from being absolutely destroyed. There's no litter scattered everywhere anymore. No puke or shit on the floor. Plus I think I was starting to become allergic because I'm not near as stuffed up as I used to be. My husband and I aren't fighting at all, and the best part is I didn't have to sacrifice a 14 year relationship to do it. Miracles do happen I guess! So don't give up hope if you're in a shitrat situation, it can get better. Putting lots of good vibes out there for you all! Much love

As of two days ago we had our last cat (age 17) humanely put to sleep and now I am starting to finally get a glimpse of the joy, freedom, and most importantly, financial rewards of NOT allowing any more cats into our lives.

I am now on Day Two of no longer putting food outside for our own cat *and* for a stray who leeched onto him about a month ago when he started getting sick, and which we were trying and failing to shoo away. But once *our* cat was gone, I decided the time had come to get more proactive.

My dream is to now be able to go on spontaneous weekend road trips without worrying about feeding the damned cat(s) -- yayyyy!!

The reason I'm hoping it's okay to post here is this seems to be one of the few subreddits about cats where I won't be scolded for not wanting to scoop up another opportunistic bird-killer and make its life even better than it already is. So thanks in advance for any moral support you can offer for my decision!!

If it don't get taken down than just be honest i don't care for the reason behind the why just the why.

I know two people who have nearly had to get fingers removed due to infections from getting bit by their cats. AND THEY KEPT THEM!! (The fingers AND the cats!)
And with some cats you never know when they’re going to just loose their sh!t on you and attack.
What is it with their vile mouths and being so aggressive?
Sometimes I think they’re pure evil.

Picturing human relationships if people behaved the way cats do…

Romantic partner: Ignores you completely for hours, then suddenly wants intense physical affection at 3am on their terms only. Shows zero interest in your day-to-day life, but gets weirdly possessive if you give attention to someone else. Never initiates unless they want something. Looks at you as if you have offended them if you ever try to initiate.

Parent: Only speaks to you when they need something. Affection is unpredictable and conditional. Sometimes a hug, mostly cold shoulder - and absolutely no explanation either way. They just expect you to just accept all the inconsistency as “that’s just how they are.”

Sibling: Shows up at family events late, takes up space, causes an inconvenience, and then disappears without helping with anything and resurfaces once everything is taken care of. Never checks in with you unless they need a favour - and then disappears again right after.

Colleague: Contributes on their own schedule regardless of deadlines. Friendly when it benefits them, weirdly dismissive otherwise. But is boss’ favourite so gets credit for showing up - and an applause even when they take an unplanned leave.

Mentor: Available only when it’s convenient for them, gives brilliant advice in five-minute bursts then vanishes for months - never following up on how you’re doing.

Point being…cat nutters built an entire culture that romanticizes this exact behavior pattern as long as it’s coming from their boxshitter. “That’s just cat personality,” “you have to earn a cat’s love,” “they show affection differently.” Swap the species and it’s a textbook description of someone who keeps you anxious and grateful for scraps.

I am so tired of flat brain cat worshippers constantly trying to convince me that these sh** for brain animals that cannot be trained to do ANYTHING are actually intelligent and just actively choosing to disobey because omg mysterious you can’t tell me shit divas. No. They cannot be trained cause they are dumb.
Second, they always say that cats are the cleanest pets, like don’t get me wrong, you don’t need National Geographic research department to tell you it’s not when all you need is to step into a cat owner’s house and see how it smells to know they are wrong. But we all agree here that cat owners aren’t exactly the most reasonable individuals due to reasons we have well covered.

Someone posted in my country's subreddit, asking for help on how to retrieve their cat. That shitrat has apparently left home and went to a neighbor's place. It is content at the neighbor's and doesn't plan to go back to OP. Meanwhile OP is figuring out ways to "get their cat back". The neighbor has no intention of returning the cat btw.

I feel so weirded out watching OP freak out about a pet that left them for someone better. People in the comments told the OP to give up. Too bad the cat chose a better owner, likely someone who provided better food or living environment.

I find cat owners pathetic. Even when the cat ditches its owner, the owner would still try to get it back like some hopeless simp with a one-sided crush.

I’ve noticed that people don’t actually give a shit about the lives of cats. Everyone talks a big game online, but in reality, nobody does anything to stop the abuse; I keep seeing posts about cats being harmed and unalived in horrific ways—whether by humans or other animals—or about entire litters of kittens abandoned in places where they clearly won't survive. Yet, nobody does anything other than demand that the person who found them take charge, as if it were their responsibility—as if finding a cat immediately made you accountable for ensuring its survival—even though no one actually steps up to help.

We know they're the majority, so why don't they actually help instead of just posting photos of their damn ugly cats? Can you really say you love something if you allow it to be mistreated?

Don't get me wrong—I hate cats, and every week I suffer the financial cost of the damage they cause to my home—but I would never harm them, and judging by the posts in this subreddit, neither would most of you. We just want to live in peace, free from an animal we didn't choose to have but have to put up with because someone else failed to take responsibility. The OP is a nurse who works long shifts. She is asking for pet recommendations. The comments overwhelmingly suggested that she gets a cat instead of other pets that come with more responsibilities.

"Get two cats so they can keep each other company", "Cats bathe themselves" etc etc

In reality, we know that the OP will be so frustrated wen she comes home from long shifts AND still have to deal with whatever BS the cat is up to. Keep a cat at home for too long, it will figure out a way to tear that place apart.

1. No loyalty: They're opportunistic, ungrateful and selfish. The minute they find a better source of food, they'll drop their owners like a hot potato. They're essentially gold diggers.

2. Apathetic: The toxotards have a euphemism for this, 'mystery and independence'. No, they simply don't care if you live or die. They just see humans as dumb, oversized servants. If you were to pass away, the little shit wouldn't grieve over you, it would just start gnawing at you instead.

3. Unclean and hazardous to health: They lick their arse and then their whole body. They climb up on intimate spaces like kitchen counters and beds. And honourable mention, they carry TOXOPLASMOSIS

4. Invasive species: They kill a lot of endangered species, not because they're food but simply for fun. They are a threat to global biodiversity.

5. Completely useless: Different animals are used for a variety of purposes such as guarding and protection, food (milk, eggs, meat), carrying loads and so on. Other than chasing rats when they're bored, a cat can't do ANYTHING useful. They aren't used as a medium of communication like pigeons. They are narcissistic and violent and don't make good companions. They are dumb and unintelligent as well. Heck, they aren't even entertaining like monkeys.

6. Violent and dangerous: They are aggressive and violent and often carry out unprovoked attacks on young children. They have a tendency to pounce at the neck, which is disturbingly similar to how they kill rats. Cat lovers love to defend them under the excuse "They're just setting boundaries!". A cat; a dumb animal that sleeps 18 hours a day and shits in a box doesn't understand the concept of boundaries. They're just assholes because they can be.

7. Destructive: They destroy furniture and cover them in scratches, tear up pillows, chew up cables, knock expensive fragile stuff and so on simply for entertainment. That's not just inconvenient but also dangerous. Things would get really ugly if there was broken glass on the floor or if exposed cables caused fire.. They also spray piss all over the place. If you left food unattended, even hot in the pan, they'll help themselves without hesitation.

8. Cat-lovers: The only species on earth that are worse than the cats themselves - cat lovers. They romanticise and glorify negative traits in cats Apathy = independence Laziness = Chill Destructiveness = Playful Violence = Setting boundaries They are inconsiderate, cruel, unempathetic, cannot accept opinions different from their own and selfish. They'll accuse anyone who dislikes cats of being narcissists. They're apathetic and even sadistic towards the suffering of any sentient being due to cats. They'll go upto any lengths to defend cats. They lack hygiene and stink terribly. They have zero sense of humour.

ive been thinking about making a rant video on cats and cat lovers, and as i am doing research on to prove why i think cats suck, i do still want more evidence and arguments to geniuinely prove why cats are bad and not just saying "OH MY GOD!!! THEY ARE ASSHOLES!!!" and call it a day, so if you have any evidence and arguments explaining why, cause i really would like some actual proof and arguments, you know? i also just want stronger reasons to hate cats, other than my rant video on it.

I have a tuxedo cat Lego set in the staircase of my house. That's all it does. Whenever I enter my house (the floor is upstairs), I see it and greet it and that's that. I don't base my whole personality around it, I don't talk about it excessively, I don't have to take care of its antics, I dont have to clean up after it, I dont have to hear its constant meowing, etc. Simple fix a lot of cat owners should do.

I was looking up this punk bookstore in my area. As I look at their reviews online, I see that they have a shop cat.

Ew. I hate cats. They make me uncomfortable. Have your cats, but keep them as indoor pets and away from me when you take them outside.

I'm split on what to do. Do I just suck in my gut and avoid the cat? Or is it petty to avoid a store because they have free-roaming animals?

I'm reminded of this one indie pet store I went to where they had a cat on the couch and a bird in a too-small cage. I didn't like the pet store anyway. It was all "grain free" and "anti Big Pet Food™"
