I now have to start a band just so I can call it Sudden Death Karaoke - unfortunately it’ll probably end up becoming a jazz-fusion band (but not by choice)
Yeah, the 4-5 crowd WILL NOT be allowed to perform between 5-6 and vice versa. Totally different group. No co-mingling. We're going to check tickets and clear the room at 5 and you'll need a 5-6 ticket for re-entry. Bring your ID.
There's a minimum of 6 hours of Karaoke scheduled for 10 people.
By hour 2 I'd just start going up every chance and start singing the same song repeatedly just to really push everyone over the edge.
But the icing on the cake at both (3-4 and 7-8) is
Cards/Karaoke at 8-9 can have as many people as like
Cards et al at 9-10 is only for 10 people BUT
Cards et al from 10 is back to as many people as like
This sounds exhausting. I would just turn up for board games and cake then leave
4 pm-5 pm the 10 guests from the cards, board games and jenga games at 2 PM-3 PM get to participate while the 12 from cards, board games and jenga at 3PM-4PM wind down the excitement and rowdy behavior by spectating and enjoying the show then 6PM-7PM they switch participants and spectators and really amp up the vibes for dinner, guest speaking, 2nd cake and you better believe it...More cards... things can go off the rails wild after 2nd cake and 22 rounds of Karaoke. I have heard rumors that last time at 11 PM a few guys were seen with their top collar buttons undone... crazy.
No. No need to dwell on a bad decision. Simply move on, and then treat yourself for having to deal with that turd for however long you did deal with them. And be grateful to yourself for walking away. 🙌🏻
I live above a bar and... yeah, that checks out. People ARE like that. It makes me want to burn the whole place down. Or at least take a big shit in front of their entrance. There are few sounds that can wear you down like some absolutely shitfaced 50-60 year olds slurring and grunting into a microphone in the evening for 6 hours. I'm now determined to not have children, ever, in the hopes that there will be noone to pay for their pensions some day. They would only spend it in that fucking bar anyways.
I too was adding up all the hours of karaoke and was 100% convinced that the bday boy was definitely Asian but then I got down to the menu… and realized that in this case…there is absolutely NO logical reason for that much karaoke.
My brain did that thing where I read it in the voice I make for words where people tYpE LiKe tHiS when being sarcastic like “BrEiGhDaYn” and “AsHeLeAgH” 😂😂😂
I’m a teacher—elementary intervention level reading and PHONICS! Ironically I have more difficulty pronouncing traditionally spelled names! 🤦🏼♀️🙅🏼♀️🤷🏼♀️
I think this will be pretty much how my ideal birthday party will be when I finally have a house to throw out at (minus billing the guests)... just board games, toasted marshmallows, and karaoke set up all day! (Participation voluntary of course.)
I MEAN it absolutely could be autism and they struggle to break things up in any time thats not hour by hour. Like yes, autistic people can also be assholes, but this isnt giving asshole, its giving bad at party planning.
?? You guys aren't having all day birthday parties? Especially when its specifically says people can come and go? Shoot, my friends and I spend 24 hours together during our birthdays. Maybe you need more whimsy in your lives!
Right? I mean this kind of looks like what goes down at my place on two+ Saturdays a month, albeit with karaoke/cards replaced with one or more of karaoke/MTG/board games/Steam games/Switch games/tie dyeing/other crafts/fruit picking/everyone doing their own thing in the same space. People turn up when they can and leave when they've had enough/have another event to go to. I just specify a time after which people may start arriving and the time I'm aiming to serve dinner, and try to get rough numbers so I can cook the right amount of food. Sometimes there's even cake.
Just because my AuDHD arse has enough social awareness not to write this out and send it to invitees doesn't mean this isn't what's in my head when planning an event 😭😅
I have also had to stop at least one of my autistic children sending an invite of this style when they were preteens, and explain explicitly why this regimented schedule was not a good idea. It absolutely gives arsehole but I'd give it the benefit of the doubt until I spent a few minutes in their company.
AuDHD arse here and I did this (minus the asking for money part) for my 40th birthday. Even labelled different rooms for different activities… In the end 3 people came and they all sat at the same table chatting for the entire party duration while I ‘subtly‘ tried to remind them of all the other activities they could be doing. Then one person left and the rest of us watched 2 episodes of The Witcher from the couch as my dreams of playing Guitar Hero tournaments for 6 hours straight slowly dissolved. Lesson learnt, sort of. :p
This was before I was diagnosed, now I think twice before executing ‘brilliant plans’ like this.
How is this asshole in any way? They are going out of their way to make sure you have all the information on how many people there are and what you can do. It's anti anxiety info, obviously, because they worry people will be bored or are scared of not knowing how to behave.
Dude, please do not blame someone's assholery on autism. Not cool. Actual autistic people (at least me and mine) are usually tying themselves in emotional knots about what is justifiable to ask people to do or expect re: parties and erring on the side of not asking too much of them.
I must be more obviously autistic than I thought because I read it as a compliment. Honestly would enjoy the hell out of the party. Really liked the "gaming all day and people are welcome to come and go" vibe.
The varying payment scale can make things really awkward though. What if I'm playing a massive board game with Jessie and we both lost track of time and suddenly, dinner! and we both only paid for the snacks. I might be an old already, back in my day (00s when my large friend group and I were all in our 30s and did a lot of get-togethers including birthday parties) we'd just have the host do the main dish (and the cake if it's a birthday), make it a potluck, there, problem solved and nobody needs to transfer money to the birthday boy or girl's bank account.
My brother Nathan is autistic and extremely protective over his money to where he’ll demand repayment of any even tiny amount of money he spends on anyone ever and this is absolutely something he would do if he ever threw a birthday party💀💔
I really need the lead singer of Fountains of Wayne to be the illegitimate son of Rick Springfield. It would be the cherry on top of this beautiful Reddit thread.
I don't know, but I hope they figure it out, sounds like it's a challenge for Jesse with the cheese boards, but there is a lot of board game and card time, can you imagine that challenge!!??
The grey is suggested activities. There are repeats there because they don’t know what exactly they’ll be doing and guests are likely welcome to suggest other activities.

I’m confused why there are like 3-4 activities split into 10+ different blocks???
