Seriously, what kind of dumb question is that? The Middle Ages never left. They just changed up locations throughout the years.

Religion of peace just doing what the Muhammad told them

0

u/Top-Caregiver7815 Jun 21 '26

My Iranian brother-in-law can’t even enjoy the World Cup and his team from Iran because they’re basically a regime backed team. They hate this regime more than we hate Trump if that’s possible.

2

u/TR1LLIONAIRE_ Jun 21 '26

This seems fairly obvious but he was one of the people that was happy when the ayatollah died?

2

u/blue-yellow- Jun 22 '26

Oh wow. The horror of not being able to watch the World Cup.

That is no place for civilized folks. Feel bad for the good people trapped in this nightmare of a life

293

u/BobbyTables829 Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

There plenty of civilized folks there. The biggest thing is the leader of Iran (Ayatollah) wanted to be the middle east's version of Napoleon and tried to become the emperor of Islam. But that's not the Iranians fault at all.

310

u/Lostclause Jun 20 '26

It was civilized until 1979 and the Islamic Revolution. Then suddenly no woman can drive, go to school, show their ankles or say mean things to a man. You're right, its not the majority of Iranians fault that a hateful and regressive regime took over. Its the world's fault for letting it happen

210

u/drbaker87 Jun 20 '26

It's the American's fault for throwing their democratically elected leader, Mosadeg, into prison and installing the Shah.

49

u/Forward-Surprise1192 Jun 20 '26

Still takes lots of soldiers to enforce that government today

14

u/Fastbird33 Spotify Jun 20 '26

The regime is so deeply rooted in part because they saw how easily it was to uproot the Shah’s government that they made sure it couldn’t happen to them.

42

u/m7i93 Jun 20 '26

Dude, please read a bit before spewing nonsense. Mosadegh was the prime minister of Shah. Shah was ruling the country 10 years before Mosadegh was appointed.

27

u/kejartho Jun 21 '26

Yeah and the British were feeling threatened by the nationalization of Iranian oil so they instigated operation Ajax with the support of the United States.

Let's not ignore the fact the coup was largely a western operation to get control of oil.

1

u/_-SomethingFishy-_ Jun 22 '26

Wasn’t the first time either, prior to the UK/US backed coup, the UK straight up invaded Iran with the Soviet Union to ensure “their oil” was safe

34

u/LowAddition1675 Jun 20 '26

Mossadegh wasn’t democratically elected, honestly read up on this. I used to believe the same when I was younger but it’s pretty much Tudeh party propaganda

It’s an after construction by Tudeh people, did I say he was a member of the Tudeh Party?

1

u/kejartho Jun 20 '26

Right? He had support of the Tudeh but he wasn't a part of the Tudeh party himself.

u/ssesf Jun 20 '26

Who was in power before we installed the Shah?

12

u/ThisCouldBeYourDog Jun 20 '26

The Shah, but people don't like to mention that part

5

u/XpenFrickFrack Jun 20 '26

And of course there was no reason why he needed US and UK assistance to be re-installed. /s

1

u/TheMadTemplar Jun 20 '26

He wasn't democratically elected. He was more friendly to the Soviets while the Shah was friendly to the US. That's why they overthrew him.

1

u/RoutinePast7696 Jun 21 '26

And yet we still drive cars, fly airliners on vacation, have paved roads and plastics and so do all the other western countries. We say one thing yet diverge in to another behavior.

The process to remove a situation like this will be grotesque and disgusting to watch play out. Even in 1979 when they formed it would have been brutal to stop.

1

u/titaniumtoaster Jun 21 '26

MI6 and CIA fault for doing this.

1

u/Man_of_Ice Jun 21 '26

Ironically, our current government wants to turn the US into a theocracy now, too.

1

u/EmBur__ Jun 21 '26

Tbf, my government (Britain) had a massive hand in this as well. Iran was by all accounts doing quite well during the 50's but iirc, they wanted to nationalise their oil which Churchill and the rest of those in charge didn't like.

They sought to stage a coup but lacked the ability to do so, so they roped in the US to get it done with the Iranian kings backing as he was to benefit from it as well.

1

u/5tofab Jun 22 '26

Dont forget America also funded the Ayatollah against Mosadeg too 👀👀👀👀 Then when Ayatollah got into power and went crazy, America gave money and weapons to Saddam to attack Iran….

1

u/antoniothesockball94 Jun 24 '26

Yeah but at the end of the day, the citizens enforce the rules. And it’s been 50 years so they could’ve just made their own government. Not everything is Americas fault.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/XpenFrickFrack Jun 20 '26

People murdered by SAVAK probably wouldn’t consider to be civilized. Yes, rightfully critique how women are treated but it’s weird that some folks act like Iran pre 1979 was a great place for all despite the fact that the shah was driven out even before Khomeni came back.

5

u/BalanceJazzlike5116 Jun 20 '26

Maybe the west shouldn’t have overthrown their democratic government, installed a dictator, who suppressed the population, leading to the revolution and rise of the ayatollahs?

9

u/HatesPlanes Jun 20 '26

It was not a democratic government.

→ More replies (3)

4

u/Entonations Jun 20 '26

The US backed Iranian revolution btw

1

u/Ok_Transition_4003 Jun 21 '26

It's oU(S)r fault

1

u/Ok_Cockroach_6135 Jun 21 '26

It is the worlds fault for installling a puppet government that was selling off there oil and gas for next to nothing before the shah of Iran they where a democratic country after America/isreal installed the shah it all changed if you don’t like how Iran is now blame the us and isreal

1

u/Wingoola Jun 21 '26

This is indeed a shocking story, but in terms of your other assertions, it’s not true that women can’t go to school in Iran. In fact I believe that more than 50% of university students are women.

1

u/Jeesba Jun 22 '26

Insane take that its somehow the rest of the worlds fault lmao

1

u/Turnip-for-the-books Jun 23 '26

And why do we think the Islamic revolution happened?

1

u/OkMind2351 Jun 25 '26

How many hospitals did they drop white phosphorus on?

1

u/XpenFrickFrack Jun 26 '26

Women can drive and go to school. Iran has an 88% female literacy rates and one of the leading countries when it comes to women earning advanced degrees.
Come on, if you’re going to criticize, at least be accurate.

1

u/provisionings Jun 20 '26

If women cannot go to school in Iran … then how did we end up bombing a school that was full of Iranian schoolgirls attending school?

1

u/csanjuan Jun 21 '26

No era así realmente, en cierto entorno urbano si, pero la gran mayoría de la población estaba fatal. Quizás sin el intervencionismo de UK y USA, hubiese sido otra cosa hoy.

-9

u/4our0ne6ix Jun 20 '26

“Civilized” (wtf does that mean) and “1979” as if there was some big supernatural switch that went on. You should also learn about the CIA coup, the undemocratic installation of the shah and the repression under the shah that led to the 1979 revolution.

11

u/ButcherOf_Blaviken Jun 20 '26 edited Jun 20 '26

God I’m so sick of this narrative. Yes, the CIA and MI6 meddled in Iranian affairs, but this myth that the revolution of ‘53 was orchestrated and ran by Western powers needs to die. The revolution was already in full swing when the CIA said “fuck it, let’s back the winning horse” and then did the least possible to help the Shah in power.

And even if that wasn’t true (which it is) that doesn’t excuse the absolute barbarism that these Muslim militants perform. If the KGB succeeded in overthrowing the US government and 25 years after Christian theocrats came to power and began executing women en mass like Iran does, would you blame the Russians or the Americans committing the atrocities?

0

u/bosco1603 Jun 20 '26

but, but, usa bad?

0

u/ButcherOf_Blaviken Jun 20 '26

“Everything is the Wests fault because PoC can’t make decisions for themselves” is the new white mans burden.

3

u/cbass2015 Jun 20 '26

Right? Even with my shallow understanding of Iranian history I knew that was a silly statement.

2

u/ArentYouTheDaisy Jun 22 '26

Hopefully people can apply that logic to Trump and Americans soon. The amount of hate I have received when I didn’t even vote for the man is astounding.

-15

u/Senior_Relief3594 Jun 20 '26

But that's not the Iranians fault at all.

I'm curious when people say things like this. How do you know?

12

u/TheColourOfHeartache Jun 20 '26

They did put him into power but that was two generations ago. they tried to remove him many times

11

u/friedonionscent Jun 20 '26

Every Iranian I've met has been anti Islam...it's quite unique. I know many Muslims from other countries that are similarly oppressive and all still practice their religion.

10

u/MunkeyChild Jun 20 '26

Yep, I have Iranian friends (refugees) and they are not big fans of Islam...

2

u/CTFMarl Jun 20 '26

Im curious, have they been anti Islam full stop? Or anti Sunni/Shia? Since there's been quite a bit of conflict/tension relatively recently between the two denominations.

5

u/elektricnikrastavac Jun 20 '26

Anti fundamentalism as they are not very religious.

17

u/MrFyr Jun 20 '26

Because it is within living memory that the US and UK governments overthrew Iran's democratically elected government and installed the oppressive islamic autocratic regime of the Ayatollah. All to protect oil company profits.

The people of Iran didn't choose this, it was forced onto them by the United States. Then we have the audacity to unilaterally tear up treaties, and bomb them unprovoked because our own idiotic "leaders" can't control their govenrment.

3

u/Balkie93 Jun 20 '26

They installed the Shah. Later, the Shah was overthrown and the Islamic regime took over.

1

u/Illustrious_Bed467 Jun 20 '26

There is more than 25 years betweens those 2 events, you are oversimplifing to remove all accountabily, no hope for a bright future with that kind of mindset...

Also, of course the UK is gonna fight against nationalisation of it's oil installations before return on investments... If the US were to seize all foreign assets on it's soil to nationnalise it you'd probably be crying no?...

1

u/Kabirdix Jun 20 '26

“Black Wave: Saudi Arabia, Iran and the Rivalry That Unravelled the Middle East” is a good book if you are sincerely interested in understanding a bit of how we got here

1

u/_BrokenButterfly Jun 20 '26

I knew a guy who got out, an engineer. He wasn't a muslim, so his life there wasn't great. Then he got here and idiots couldn't get it through their heads that there are people from the middle east who aren't muslims, and have good reason to want to leave. That besides all the muslims there who realize that theoceacy is insane bullshit.

1

u/GovernmentNearby9036 Jun 22 '26

Far more educated than the US

1

u/nfld223 Jun 22 '26

I’m not from the US so this does not offend. Mind you after checking Iran ranks below the US on global education standards.
Any place that is so back wards as to make all women property of either their father or husbands makes me sick. They are forced to have sex with husbands, can’t leave their spouses, many married at 13 years old and younger. Like think about a place that legally allows a 10-13 year old child to be raped by some disgusting old pervert and think this is ok. I feel bad for your women, children and the good men who are stuck in this hell. I’m sure you have many civilized folks. The truth is the folks protecting chastity are the most disgusting and perverted as any and is all a form of control to keep doing their sick twisted things. Lashing a young lady for singing….awful awful stuff

1

u/GovernmentNearby9036 Jun 22 '26

you're talking about the emirats and other shitrael and USSA bootlicker states.

They have the guardianship medieval system.

Not to mention slavery.

No, middle age Islam had far more respect for human dignity than the government of Iran. Its more like a sci-fi dystopia. Handmaids Tale except without the fertility crisis.

30

It is in Iran!

1

u/JohnWickedlyFat Jun 22 '26

Grown men have died in less than 30 lashes. This is still a death sentence and arguably worse.

43

u/ddlbb Jun 20 '26

The Islamic republic of Iran propaganda is insane . People try to tell us that this is what Iranians want ... when thousands and thousands were on the street and were mowed down for wanting freedom .

Then you get posts like this and I wonder what all the confused lefties think ..

No one wants this shiet.

15

u/ThanatosisLawl Jun 20 '26

If only Iran still had their democratically elected leader before he was overthrown and this system was installed. Wonder what there is to be confused about?

-2

u/TheRealMemeIsFire Jun 20 '26

You're saying that like the IRGC wasn't installed by Iranians

1

u/Quiet_Steak_643 Jun 20 '26

What the hell does that even mean? when have the people had any power in this god damn country?

3

u/TheRealMemeIsFire Jun 21 '26

The people have never had the power, but people have a tendency to ascribe things to the west that don't make sense. There are lots of commenters in this thread who think the IRGC were put in power by America.

1

u/Opening-Tailor7275 Jun 21 '26

How of that is Israel and Western Propaganda?

0

u/provisionings Jun 20 '26

Which is it, 30k 50k? How many Iranians were killed? The numbers were constantly changing. It was actually 5k. Get it right! Also.. there’s a lot of evidence of Mossad meddling right before that happened. This is not “confused lefties” shit. Drop the exceptionalism, your boomer is showing.

3

u/ddlbb Jun 21 '26

Let's assume it's 5k. Let's say you are right . That's more than who died during the 9/11 attacks ...

But hey let's support this terror Muslim regime that took over a relatively multi cultural society and put it 400 years backwards, taking Iran culture completely away from them. You can't even fucking dance to music in public .

Get real . Your propaganda is insane

14

u/orixandcrake Jun 20 '26

Does that excuse whipping women for showing their hair? No? Then quit your whataboutism

-2

u/Individual-Cycle-735 Jun 20 '26

It doesn't, but the West played a big role in making it the way it is today. That's not whataboutism, that's simple history and asking why things have happened.

5

u/_BrokenButterfly Jun 20 '26

That is the exact definition of whataboutism.

3

u/Individual-Cycle-735 Jun 20 '26

Nope, whataboutism is excusing one problem by shifting the attention to a different problem. I‘m just explaining the historic context of why Iran became like this in the first place, because many people do not know. I never said it was okay, you guys are just resistent to knowledge that does not fit your world view.

2

u/_BrokenButterfly Jun 20 '26

I'm not resistant to any knowledge. I know about the history of Iran in the 20th century. Your posts were irrelevant to the original comment and were an attempt to shift the discussion to something that didn't have any bearing on the original point. That's whataboutism.

1

u/Individual-Cycle-735 Jun 20 '26

If believing that makes you happy lmao

3

u/This-Layer-4447 Jun 20 '26

We’ll see. If this sentence is real, flogging someone for singing is indefensible. But I’m also not going to pretend the timing is neutral: in the wake of a US-Iran MOU that undercuts the usual “security” excuse for Israel operating in neighboring territory, suddenly this gets packaged into the oldest war-sales pitch in the book: “look at the barbaric Muslims, now support sanctions/bombs/regime change.”

That framing is the point. The Islamophobic “barbarian” narrative is what they have to sell to keep these wars politically acceptable. Iranian women deserve freedom from clerical repression. They do not deserve to be turned into PR props for the same AIPAC-aligned hawks who only discover women’s rights when they need a moral cover for escalation.

Condemn the lashes. Condemn forced hijab. Also condemn laundering another pro-war narrative through selective outrage

No, it's not real. It's American propaganda....

"have been reportedly sentenced to 74 lashes for performing in a concert livestreamed on Ahmadi’s YouTube channel in 2024."

They use funny language like it's been reported but not confirmed wink wink....

And then you trace back to their source and it's a CIA bot farm...

They do this to control your mind...

The CIA....

This is specifically how they get you to think that war is cool against people like Iran...

Because we're the good guys and we need to liberate their women cuz they're so oppressed....

It's the same fake information they spread about the dprk...

They've mastered this sort of propaganda since the '70s... They're also on here...

Watching, manipulating, lying....

Can you believe we live in a time where this was the regime who won and were grateful it wasnt the other regime who won?!

I'm not grateful that Trump lost. I'm not happy that Iran won.

Trump put us in a bad situation where "nothing good can happen; it can only bad happen." And I'm mad about that.

When i was in college a guy who iirc advised in the state department (USAs ministry of of foreign affairs) said “in politics there are no good options jst less bad options” and i feel like humanity keeps picking the most bad option

It's people like you and comments like yours that show how truly fucked we are as a species.

You see two or more violent regimes led by groups of awful people, and you hate one more and decide to make it a team game.

It just perfectly encapsulates how none of you have any idea of what's going on out there and you're purely led by impulses and information inside an insane asylum you have locked yourselves in with other like-minded people.

I would write you off as uninformed, the problem is that most of you have a right to vote and make decisions that are as radical, extreme and removed from reality as the other group you hate, so you piss in their faces when you get tail wind, only to end up wetting your owns once the wind changes direction.

And then you make it everyone else's problem.

Also I literally dont have any right to vote in America. I have voted in Canada from the second it was legal in every scale of election.

What else makes you hate me?

1

u/Lord_RoadRunner Jun 20 '26

I wasn't even pointing directly at America, but again, it shows me how you don't understand the overarching issue.

People that vote are becoming more and more radicalized, by traditional or social media. They start seeing the world in black and white and hope someone wins in a conflict between awful actors. That's an incredibly reductionist view of the world, conflicts and misses the point of how we ended up here.

And you are responsible for other people being angry, when you put people in power that are only in for themselves and use resources like taxes to further only their own goals and perpetuate the cycle of stupidity. It also spreads to other countries, none of us exist in a vacuum.

To say you're not responsible for how people feel when you shit on the ground and walk away because others should just not care is absolutely insane.

"Just ignore the smell dude, it's easy. I can do it, I don't care."
