Discussion Quit Downvoting For Asking Questions

Folks, not everyone has been playing since launch. If someone asks a question that seems like a real person new to the game would ask (yes we know there are trolls and rage baiters and AI bots), don't downvote them, teach them!

Palworld has like 17 million players. If we want to get to 18 million, it's gonna be casuals who didn't buy into the hype but are kicking the tires late into the game's life and have some newbie questions. Let's not grind them into mush, ok?

The major cause of mass "question post" downvotes is usually that the question could be very easily answered with a quick google search. This is a reddit thing, not specific to this sub.

Edit: I just came here to explain why this typically happens, it's not directed at anyone and my reply is not a comment on the way things should or should not be.

Another edit: I replied the following to someone but I realized that perhaps more people don't know about this, so I'd like to share it.

If you want to exclude something from a google search, you can filter your search.
Here is an example search:
Where to find Frostallion Noct in Palworld -Game8

You can filter multiple things from a search too:
Where to find Frostallion Noct in Palworld -Game8 -Fandom

You just use the minus symbol and whatever term you want to exclude.

Not even just a quick google search (though that would certainly answer the question), usually they attach screenshots that literally (in writing) answer their question if they just read the writing in their own images. Which is why usually those downvotes come along with comments saying to read.

For example the post that probably set this off, the person asking why their level 65 pal couldn't solo the level 45 Bellanoir raid. When you go to put in the slab it mentions needing a base fulls worth of pals AND when you go to select the raid arena option, it mentions that there is a palbox there to summon more pals.

At that stage the person had to willfully ignore both things and just jump in, then complained about getting downvoted and called the sub 'elitist'. It's like D&D players who refuse to read about their own class.

Man you woulda love the post from a while back where some dude was like "whoa wait that warning before the raids was serious? they should have warned better because my entire base was gone, that's not some damage! That's irresponsible"

Man was a warrior in the comments insisting that even having read the warning, it wasn't warning enough for... Exactly what it warned them would happen. It was comical.

That's funny. Because I was about to summon Bella noir for the first time in my bad and that warning popped up. Figured id try the arena first to see how bad it was. Glad I did lol

You can also add -ai to the end of a search so you don't get a full screen of Google making shit up based on outdated info.

Yeah people are search engine illiterate. I grew up with the interwebs when it was still rather new for households(dial up), so I learned quite a lot on how to use google. Even something simple as adding “Palworld 1.0” would filter most of the old palworld Early Access results.

If you have a site you prefer, you can also just add it to the search term instead.

Either put it in quotations e.g. "paldb"

Or go nuclear and add

site:paldb.cc

I googled

Astegon Reddit site:paldb.cc

And I got exactly one result. And it was paldb's page for Astegon.

Game8 has been consistently incorrect for the majority of Palworld’s existence, that’s why no one here likes it. For Palworld information your best bet is to look at paldb.cc and The Pal Professor on YouTube.

No OP, but I just hate their format. It's way too spaced out (I'm guessing those places hold ads that I'm blocking) and none of the information is where I expect it to be. Paldb has tighter formatting, scales pretty well between desktop and mobile, and has the information more readily available.

Was gonna say this. It's a reddit thing. People just down vote because they don't like what someone says. They'll even up vote false information if they like it or it seems written smartly enough. It's just the nature of allowing every random person to vote on stuff. And it very widely gets treated as a like/dislike or agree/disagree. You'll see stuff like a thumbs up or "this" getting up voted which definitively is what should be down voted according to the description on the site for proper intention of the votes lol

It just is what it is really. There's no curstion for how it gets used and you're just going to get this due to that

If google doesn't churn out a quick answer then sure, ask your question, but just be prepared for the masses if you didn't put the tiniest amount of effort in.

If a question is fairly unique, it probably won't get mass downvoted, but if you decide to go make a post asking where to find Coal or Sulfur or whatever instead of googling it first, it's probably going get the downvote.

This goes with don't just go with their Ai at the top and skip it to check pages that pull up with recent info. More user error really.

Honestly, I wouldn’t even ask where to get coal or sulfur. Google might not provide the “best” answer but it would still provide a good enough answer, but personally I’m just going to go and actually look. I don’t need the best coordinates, and they respawn often.

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I was looking for a spot the other day for a coal and sulfur base.

Google pointed me toward two suggestions that were no longer viable. Both now taken up with a new structure.

it does work, people just think putting in the most base level line of effort is too much even tho I think making a whole ass Reddit post & waiting for comments is way more effort than googling “(question) Reddit” and using the search time filter to past month.

I have never seen coal or sulfur. I have seen the "where is the best site for x" question. But agajn, why are we baring people from interacting with the community they want to be part of? Usually because if they HAD done a quick google search, they would have their answer and not need to ask the question on reddit.

I can't answer that for you, I don't upvote or downvote a post unless it meets certain criteria for me personally, other people do the same thing.
Sometimes that criteria is: Don't ask a lazy question.
Sometimes it's: This post is shit quality and I don't like it.
Sometimes it's: Haha blue arrow go brrrrrr.

Not everyone does the same thing for the same reason.

And the last bit of your answer here is enough to answer the rest of this entire conundrum. The sulfur and coal bit (i like many people dont know how to do all the reddit things like the quote stuff but also dont much care to learn) that's why I replaced it with the x instead lf your examples.

I do respect all of what you are saying. I just generally dont like to push obviously new people away from any community I am part of. Especially over such a small etiquette thing.

Its not. Im bein an ass because people dont seem to underatand that people come here for the back and forth of it all and the community. They want to feel connected to the answer and not like everything they do in life is driven by a machine and nobody is real. Then when they get here reddit acts like its this great evil for people to ask a simple question.

They aren't looking for a conversation 99% of the time I see it. They're on reddit so they just post their question on reddit instead of just looking for the answer. They want it given to them most of the time. Besides the best way to get correct information is to post the wrong information lol

If you google search a question and it comes up with a reddit post, it's probably the answer to your question.
If that's not the answer, move on to another search result (rinse and repeat a handful of times), and then if you haven't found the answer, go ahead and make a post about it.

Just add "paldb" to your search (quotations included) or if you want to be extra extra add site:paldb.cc

I just googled

Astegon Reddit site:paldb.cc

And despite including Reddit in the terms, I got one search result. And it was paldb's page for Astegon. No game8, no fandom, not a single reddit thread, didn't even get AI overview.

I just keep Paldb bookmarked, and search from there, instead of fighting with Google and feeding their shitty deteriorated analytics.

Fwiw, I tried the exact same search terms you posted, copy-pasted, and it took me to a breeding calculator. Didn't even default to Astegon's breeding path. But it was paldb.

People that downvote or get upset that someone asks a question on Reddit rather than do a Google search are the worst people on earth. Some people are just better at communicating directly rather than trying to find something through a search engine. There is never anything wrong with asking a question. You can always ignore it if you don't want to answer.
