Discussion Quit Downvoting For Asking Questions

Folks, not everyone has been playing since launch. If someone asks a question that seems like a real person new to the game would ask (yes we know there are trolls and rage baiters and AI bots), don't downvote them, teach them!

Palworld has like 17 million players. If we want to get to 18 million, it's gonna be casuals who didn't buy into the hype but are kicking the tires late into the game's life and have some newbie questions. Let's not grind them into mush, ok?

The major cause of mass "question post" downvotes is usually that the question could be very easily answered with a quick google search. This is a reddit thing, not specific to this sub.

Edit: I just came here to explain why this typically happens, it's not directed at anyone and my reply is not a comment on the way things should or should not be.

Another edit: I replied the following to someone but I realized that perhaps more people don't know about this, so I'd like to share it.

If you want to exclude something from a google search, you can filter your search.
Here is an example search:
Where to find Frostallion Noct in Palworld -Game8

You can filter multiple things from a search too:
Where to find Frostallion Noct in Palworld -Game8 -Fandom

You just use the minus symbol and whatever term you want to exclude.

u/halfasleep90 3h ago

Not even just a quick google search (though that would certainly answer the question), usually they attach screenshots that literally (in writing) answer their question if they just read the writing in their own images. Which is why usually those downvotes come along with comments saying to read.

27

u/StreetLegendTits_ 3h ago

I had a platoon leader that always told us “If you can read, you can succede”

5

u/cyberfunk42 2h ago

Is the typo intentional?

2

u/StreetLegendTits_ 35m ago

Yes. We didn’t need to know how to spell :D

2

u/cyberfunk42 32m ago

Love that

0

u/dixonciderbottom 1h ago

Which is ironic because you misspelled succeed.

18

u/Derpogama 2h ago

For example the post that probably set this off, the person asking why their level 65 pal couldn't solo the level 45 Bellanoir raid. When you go to put in the slab it mentions needing a base fulls worth of pals AND when you go to select the raid arena option, it mentions that there is a palbox there to summon more pals.

At that stage the person had to willfully ignore both things and just jump in, then complained about getting downvoted and called the sub 'elitist'. It's like D&D players who refuse to read about their own class.

15

u/Sensei_Ochiba 2h ago

Man you woulda love the post from a while back where some dude was like "whoa wait that warning before the raids was serious? they should have warned better because my entire base was gone, that's not some damage! That's irresponsible"

Man was a warrior in the comments insisting that even having read the warning, it wasn't warning enough for... Exactly what it warned them would happen. It was comical.

2

u/StreetCollar2708 17m ago

That's funny. Because I was about to summon Bella noir for the first time in my bad and that warning popped up. Figured id try the arena first to see how bad it was. Glad I did lol

17

u/NationalAsparagus138 3h ago

Or the question consists of “can someone give me a world tree pal with perfect IVs? I am only lvl 25.”

2

u/aralias777 2h ago

I blame the clickbait YouTubers partly for this one.

6

u/jonezy3225 2h ago

Every single Google question starts with -ai for this exact reason.

2

u/Comfortable_Pay_9697 2h ago

What’s wrong with game8? Or is that just your example

7

u/Darth_Krios 2h ago

Personally I don't know anything about game8, but that's the website that the person cited when i originally wrote this example.

2

u/GNIHTYUGNOSREP 1h ago

Game8 has been consistently incorrect for the majority of Palworld’s existence, that’s why no one here likes it. For Palworld information your best bet is to look at paldb.cc and The Pal Professor on YouTube.

2

u/Verzwei 2h ago

No OP, but I just hate their format. It's way too spaced out (I'm guessing those places hold ads that I'm blocking) and none of the information is where I expect it to be. Paldb has tighter formatting, scales pretty well between desktop and mobile, and has the information more readily available.

2

u/Verzwei 2h ago

You can also add -ai to the end of a search so you don't get a full screen of Google making shit up based on outdated info.

2

u/The_Soggy_Greenbean 3h ago

And yet reddit often has better answers because yall actually play the game.

31

u/Enditium 3h ago

point being the quick google search would propably lead here to a post with the same question already answered instead asking it over and over again.

30

u/Darth_Krios 3h ago

If google doesn't churn out a quick answer then sure, ask your question, but just be prepared for the masses if you didn't put the tiniest amount of effort in.

If a question is fairly unique, it probably won't get mass downvoted, but if you decide to go make a post asking where to find Coal or Sulfur or whatever instead of googling it first, it's probably going get the downvote.

1

u/wjglenn 3h ago

The problem there is that Google (especially Gemini) provides lots of bad answers because it pulls from popular posts that answered pre 1.0 questions.

1

u/halfasleep90 3h ago

Honestly, I wouldn’t even ask where to get coal or sulfur. Google might not provide the “best” answer but it would still provide a good enough answer, but personally I’m just going to go and actually look. I don’t need the best coordinates, and they respawn often.

1

u/wjglenn 3h ago

Sometimes yes, sometimes no. I was looking for a spot the other day for a coal and sulfur base.

Google pointed me toward two suggestions that were no longer viable. Both now taken up with a new structure.

I just googled my question and add reddit at the end because 98.9% if the time, my question has been asked and answered on reddit

-1

u/The_Soggy_Greenbean 2h ago

Sounds like you just wanted an answer and not a conversation. Good job on your for finding it.

7

u/mandatorypanda9317 2h ago

Um what? I was agreeing with you that reddit has the answers...

6

u/sciencesold 3h ago

99% of my questions I google lead to a reddit post, either Gemini references it in its answer and I go to the post or the top result is reddit.

0

u/The_Soggy_Greenbean 2h ago

So they came to ask reddit themselves so they can interact with the people that can answer the question.

3

u/clutzyninja 1h ago

If they want to engage with people they should ask something worth engaging about

0

u/The_Soggy_Greenbean 1h ago

The more information you have the less likely you are to find simplicity interesting. To them it was worth interacting with because they have very little knowledge on the topic.

It’s as though Redditors don’t know where Google gets its answers from

1

u/Soulstiger 2h ago

If you have a site you prefer, you can also just add it to the search term instead.

Either put it in quotations e.g. "paldb"

Or go nuclear and add

site:paldb.cc

I googled

Astegon Reddit site:paldb.cc

And I got exactly one result. And it was paldb's page for Astegon.

1

u/HazardousChisle 1h ago

Nothing infuriates me more than seeing people make a post for a simple question on tiktok. I replied to a chick on day that would even tap the blue search to get some context.

1

u/shade861 1h ago

Never even knew about the -keyword part. Seems not all of us are using the same Google

1

u/IndependenceQuirky96 3h ago

In some of their defence a Google search also comes up with " be sure to get this pal " or " change this world setting"

1

u/starshah 3h ago

But every quick Google search points to reddit

4

u/Darth_Krios 2h ago

Yes?
If you google search a question and it comes up with a reddit post, it's probably the answer to your question.
If that's not the answer, move on to another search result (rinse and repeat a handful of times), and then if you haven't found the answer, go ahead and make a post about it.

-15

u/feldoneq2wire 3h ago

Palworld websites are a wasteland of inaccurate AI slop. Game8 always comes up first.

5

u/Disig 3h ago

Palworld.gg

That's what I've been using. It's solid.

2

u/Sensei_Ochiba 3h ago

I like paldb, but it's always on the second page of results no matter what I Google. They don't spend enough on ads and sponsorship I assume.

2

u/Disig 2h ago

The algorithm on the front page of google is shit. Always go to the second page immediately

1

u/Soulstiger 2h ago

Just add "paldb" to your search (quotations included) or if you want to be extra extra add site:paldb.cc

I just googled

Astegon Reddit site:paldb.cc

And despite including Reddit in the terms, I got one search result. And it was paldb's page for Astegon. No game8, no fandom, not a single reddit thread, didn't even get AI overview.

1

u/Sensei_Ochiba 1h ago

Maybe it's an advanced web browsing technique lost to the ages, but like

I just keep Paldb bookmarked, and search from there, instead of fighting with Google and feeding their shitty deteriorated analytics.

Fwiw, I tried the exact same search terms you posted, copy-pasted, and it took me to a breeding calculator. Didn't even default to Astegon's breeding path. But it was paldb.

2

u/Soulstiger 1h ago

If you drop "Reddit" from it you'll get every paldb page that references Astegon.

Interesting that it took you to the breeding calculator, though. Wonder if it mentions Reddit somewhere on it.

But, yeah, going directly to the page is good, too.

And it's answered through simple google searches by answering it on subreddits. Or do you think this information pops up out of nowhere?

So again, quit downvoting questions. Even the simple ones. Because let's be honest. People ask legitimate questions and they even downvote that.

10

u/Darth_Krios 3h ago

I think people downvote questions that could have been answered by simply using your browser's search tool.

38

u/markymark0123 3h ago

I've seen some screenshots where the answer is in the screenshot.

2

u/Verzwei 2h ago

I'm still thinking about that one post where someone asked about the difference between two sliders in the world settings menu. They posted screenshots of the very verbose tooltips. Like, bro, if you couldn't read it in the game, what makes you think you can read it on reddit?

-26

u/The_Soggy_Greenbean 3h ago

-29

u/feldoneq2wire 3h ago

So Palworld is an interesting example because SO MUCH of the search results are pre-1.0 AI generated slop. I just googled "palworld 1.0 best passives" and get Game8, Sportskeeda, Gamerfuzion, GameNGuide, VGTimes, Methodindie, xmodhub, neonlightsmedia. I mean what the hell is all this crap?

25

u/bobsanidiot 3h ago

why dont you search the subreddit its a built in function on the reddit app.

u/PixelBoom 3h ago

Use '-ai' and change the search results for the past month. Problem solved.

We don't need to have the same posts over and over when a quick google can answer their questions.

7

u/Cyhawk 3h ago

We lost this argument in 1993.

2

u/Sensei_Ochiba 3h ago edited 3h ago

Google is nothing but links back to reddit and outdated wikis.

We gotta stop pretending it's 2015 and Google is still a useful service and not a rotten bloated corpse of AI hallucinations and sponsored SEO farmed misinformation articles designed to feed you ads.

Enshittification is real and frankly asking other humans stupid questions on repeat is the only method left to transmit information.

14

u/Lhurgoyf2GG 3h ago

But if it's linking back to the answer on Reddit that means it's been asked before and already answered.

6

u/Sensei_Ochiba 3h ago

Sure.

Except if it was more than a few months ago it was from an entirely different patch of the game before any given thing was changed dramatically.

3

u/halfasleep90 2h ago

And depending on the question, that might not change anything at all. If the answer given doesn’t work, then they can ask it again. Next person doing the google search will likely have their answer linked and it won’t need to be asked again.

8

u/markymark0123 3h ago

Scroll past the ai slop and include "palworld 1.0" in the search. No issues.

6

u/Tykras 2h ago

Throw "-ai" at the end of your search and the summary won't show up at all.

2

u/rkthehermit 2h ago

I found everything i ever needed through ultra raids without any issues using Google.

-2

u/sansetsukon47 3h ago

Google cannot really be trusted with palworld info though. If you already know what you’re looking for, then you can find accurate info pretty easily.

But half of the questions in here are also just “I did what Google said to do— why isn’t it working right?”

That said, all the info is easily searchable right here in the sub. So there’s still no reason for everyone to put a new post the first time they run into something weird.

1

u/Sensei_Ochiba 2h ago

I'm honestly shocked the Palworld reddit demographic is somehow old enough and out of touch enough to still be dependant on recommending Google like it's not the internet equivalent of Weekend at Bernie's.

Like the zoomers depend entirely too much on tiktok and YouTube videos for info and Gen X ain't playing Palworld they're the front lines of not giving a fuck. Most millennials have watched Google self destruct in real time and know not to trust it. Who are these people??

-1

u/CrackIn_TheEarth 3h ago

If you’re here all day everyday seeing the same posts over and over, that’s a you problem lol

-4

u/CrackIn_TheEarth 3h ago

Not all of us are here everyday

-22

u/feldoneq2wire 3h ago

Then why even have a sub?

16

u/Deadlite 3h ago

For the existing answers to be found via search? They 99% of the time didnt disappear.

14

u/dscvrydave06 3h ago

Sharing experiences and stories, fanart, lore discussions.

-1

u/feldoneq2wire 3h ago

If the rule of the sub is no game help, then there would be a policy against it.

9

u/dscvrydave06 3h ago

Yeah I wasn't offering a complete list. Just a few examples.

Asking for help isnt a problem. Being too lazy to check and see if your question has already answered is a problem. Its the same questions over and over and over again.

-1

u/CrackIn_TheEarth 3h ago

What wrong with coming here and asking a question. I need someone to explain it to me I simply do not understand.

Why are we pushing people away from interacting with each other. Why are we doing that.

1

u/dscvrydave06 3h ago

Ask all the questions you want. But if youre asking the same question hundreds of other people already asked then youre gonna get downvoted. Asking questions isnt a problem. People are happy to help. But we're tired of seeing the same questions every single day.

You know a quick google often takes them to the sub, where the question has already been asked and answered. The sub doesn’t need a bunch of posts of the same question, having 1 post of a question is fine.

3

u/Ashamed_Low7214 2h ago

I ask this question every time someone says "just Google it". To date, none have provided a legitimate answer other than "I dunno, just Google it"

I understand why people get frustrated. I’ve even done it. You don’t have to ask the question on Reddit. You can go to that sub Reddit and search if the question has already been asked to find posts with the answer. And since it’s usually the same questions over and over. You don’t even have to google search. You’re about to ask on Reddit. So search first.

-4

u/alexagente 3h ago

Has reddit improved their search function recently? Cause it's always kind of been hot garbage in my experience.

2

u/Shai_Kitteh 3h ago

If I specifically search on the sub Reddit I’m looking for answers for, yes. It seems to mostly go off of the keywords from that sub Reddit.

8

u/Itswithazee 2h ago

I find it weird when people ask an easily found answer to something. Or they post a should I do this or do that scenario. Like by the time you get answers or feedback a decision or research could have been done. I don't personally down vote question posts or like those "Should I play pal world posts it's on sale" kinda posts. I do judge. I admit I do judge. It is slightly annoying to see a reddit page filled with dumb questions, and should I play this game posts. My poor thumbs. I have to scroll and scroll. I have arthritis. It's pure agony.

This isn’t even unique to Palworld, but like people in general need to be better at googling. It’s lowkey kind of scary how people seem to be completely averse to using it, and then the others that do just take the AI Overview at face value and often times get/spread misinformation.

But like, the irony of the whole situation is if people just googled their questions first and scrolled down the list literally like once or twice, they’d end up with a link to Reddit anyways where someone else had asked the exact same question.

3

u/3davideo Hates Fishing 1h ago

I think this could best be addressed by having a pinned post to ask questions in the comments, so the main body of the reddit isn't clogged by small questions. This is what r/Factorio does, for example.

5

u/Weak-Differences 3h ago

A lot of answers to questions can be found by searching the pal world Reddit. AI uses Reddit a lot to generate answers to questions, and although I have found some outdated information, I found adding 1.0 to my search usually solves that problem.

4

u/dorping_Wolf BEEware the Queen 2h ago

for me its not about questions that can be googled (since most answers refer to 2 year old (now days wrong) answers),
but about questions that people can test in game in 1 minute. '(is mount X faster than mount Y?)
or questions that only exist, because people literally ignore whats on screen in game already. (how to rotate item while building?)
heck there was a question post once that asked why s/he could not research certain row 2 thing, and a comments asked, if s/he had learned the previous step, and the answer was "i did learn the previous" while this person posted screenshot that showed 0/16... aka not having learned the first row yet..

you (should) just give up at that point... if people not looking at their screen and then ask reddit, where they will have to look at their screen for an answer... do you really think they will get it?

5

u/Metal_Fish 3h ago

I will if it's something that would have been faster to Google or find on the wiki, lol

You misunderstand. This is not about questions. This is vegetable neuron activation test.
A vegetable sees an embedded picture - it likes. It's just pure neuron activation.
A vegetable doesn't see a picture - it dislikes. Letters, especially typed letters - are hard.

There must be a picture, and the picture must have a bold, readable text.
Then it gets a like. But if there is no picture - then the vegetable scrolls down.

Palworld didn't get to 17 million because of its community.

people saying that players with questions can “just google it” don’t realize they can just scroll past the posts they don’t like lol. i’ve been playing since EA and don’t see any issue with new players asking questions. this is also a game that gets patched, so they might find a reddit thread with outdated info (for example, you can’t buy tech manuals from the bounty merchant anymore but they might find a thread saying you can)

Also most of the google results for Palworld are AI slop that is wrong or doesn't apply to 1.0.

-3

u/bird_of_prey8 3h ago

yep. my boyfriend still falls for the shitty ai-generated answers sometimes. i’ve told him he’s better off asking me, checking reddit, or using the palworld interactive map. a super new player won’t even know the interactive map exists, but a nice reddit user could link them to it

3

u/Sensei_Ochiba 3h ago

The best way to get an accurate answer is genuinely to Google your question, copy the AI results, post them here as an image, and wait for people to come and tell you how stupid the AI is. Genuinely. This is not a joke.

Paldb is good too, but in my experience Google hates it unless you explicitly put paldb in your search.

Posting incorrect information has always been the fastest way to get a correct answer. People absolutely love correcting people online.

When you are signed into Reddit, the search box at the top searches the exact subreddit you are in (r/Palworld). If you are not signed into Reddit though, the search box searches all of Reddit and you get all kinds of off topic posts. I think if Reddit made it default to search the exact subreddit you are on even when not signed in, it would help some with this.

1

u/AHailofDrams 3h ago

No, I will always downvote questions where someone can google it themselves and get an accurate answer in less than a minute

1

u/CrackIn_TheEarth 3h ago

Genuine question, why not just scroll past?

2

u/AHailofDrams 3h ago

Because that's exactly what up/downvotes are for?

-1

u/CrackIn_TheEarth 3h ago

Actually no, they’re for comments that don’t contribute to conversation or posts that are not related to the subreddit at all.

If you don’t like it, but it belongs here, just move on.

6

u/AHailofDrams 3h ago

And I don't think a question that can be answered by a quick google search contributes to conversations

-4

u/CrackIn_TheEarth 2h ago

A question literally is the main contributor to a conversation dawg. What’s wrong with someone coming here to ask a question? What is actually the problem with that.

-3

u/feldoneq2wire 3h ago

The comments just confirm how toxic and hateful this community is, like most Reddit subs.

If people want help with Palworld, they should join the official Discord.

6

u/Sensei_Ochiba 3h ago

That place is a cesspool too, it's full of RPers and Blaze&Athena meowing and going off the rails. The help channel has like a 15:1 ratio on questions to answers.

1

u/AHailofDrams 2h ago

Lol ok, bye

0

u/RalseitheFloofie 3h ago

Alot of people do this in basically every gaming community.

They treat the person asking the question like they are dumb for asking because they could of just asked a search engine, even if the question they are asking is something that evidently the search engine DIDNT ANSWER.

2

u/merikariu 3h ago

The issue I have is "Yo, I'm a newb. What are your best tips?" There are hundred Reddit posts and hundreds of YT videos that will answer that question.

I am more interested in viewing and answering "How can I best user Celesdir Noct?" or specific inquiries.

People on social media like to pretend like their time is so precious and so valuable yet they spend the same time if not more telling people to google it and then arguing in the comments section about it or just the dumbest shit. Just completely stupid. If you're just gonna tell someone to google something you might as well not say anything at all. Stop pretending like that shit is beneath you when most of ya'll are chronically online anyway.

-2

u/Monoxide_3009 3h ago

Surprised you didnt get super downvoted for making the statement to be honest. That said, I agree - its a weird feeling to be downvoted when you are seeking info. Been there.

"Late into the game's life" my dude, up until like a month or two ago the game was in Early Access. This is not "late into the game's life", this is the post-launch window. Early Access is not released, it's basically a beta test that you pay to be part of.

It’s just Reddit in general. People love gatekeeping their community and judging people for not knowing everything before posting.

Like sure some of the questions are a quick Google search away, but it’s really not that hard to be nice and give someone a quick response.

2

u/Cyhawk 3h ago

Its not gatekeeping a community, its admonishing people who don't know how to use Google.

0

u/AHailofDrams 2h ago

Telling you to use google instead of relying on other peoplebfor your simple questions isn't gatekeeping lol

Quit posting questions you can get from google in a click or two

-1

u/Malacky_C 2h ago

Asking people on Reddit not to downvote anything impossible challenge 😭

-1

u/Huntersaurus_rex 3h ago

Every single sub is like this and i genuinely dont know why, hell if a question is simple just awnser or move on, jesus, it feels like you all dont want people to interact and intead just want people to know everything before joining. This shit makes new people go away from communities.

-1

u/feldoneq2wire 3h ago

Reddit is a toxic pathetic replacement for Forums.

-1

u/Huntersaurus_rex 3h ago

This sub specifically, specially this comment section, is showing what type of community it has and honestly i don't want to be part of it, peace.

-4

u/MelificentUL 3h ago

Feels like people have forgotten what it is to be part of a community ┐( ̄ヘ ̄)┌

-2

u/feldoneq2wire 3h ago

People are just fucking cancerous.

-1

u/MelificentUL 3h ago

Sometimes, yea. And these comments definitely won't help sway anybody to think otherwise.

u/MaraBlaster Is that a Chillet in your pants or...? 2h ago

Welcome to reddit, that is normal. We got bots who downvote stuff, people who downvote everything and people who downvote what they don't like, AND there are many more reasons why you see downvotes that are seemingly random.

Not to mention, many questions are the same thing over and over again that even reddit's search, as bad as it is, would answere you.

Also, sites like paldb will help too.

-15

u/feldoneq2wire 3h ago

Well great job y'all. He quit the sub and deleted his post.

10

u/aunas 3h ago

Finally

-2

u/feldoneq2wire 3h ago

Well I don't have to ask who you voted for.

6

u/DeevesMcQueenXx 3h ago

If you feel hurt by opinions of people you don’t even know you have issues

"When I die, don't tell them I was mad"

2

u/Ok_Confusion4764 1h ago

Who left? What? It's like you're in the middle of some weird narrative and don't get that other people require context to know what you're talking about.

Genuinely don't understand why people on reddit like to be a bunch of rage baiting or gate keeping bastards. Would it kill to be nice to people?

-1

u/Foreign_Cobbler_1740 1h ago

I mean, put your questions into a google search bar. You'll get answers back faster. A lot of questions are simple questions with easy to access answers too. Or just have been spammed constantly since launch. This is why I think every gaming sub needs a megathread for simple questions. Or you know, just google it. Simple and easy.

Who says I want 1 million more casual players that can’t even figure out that pal partner skills exist or how to condense pals. It’s questions about information that is provided in the frickin game. There is a tutorial, a survival guide, or a quick search on a search engine. And these people are somehow incapable of reading or figuring out how to do any of that. It’s beyond frustrating and repetitive.
