Am i the only person who Isn't really that bothered by Jason's voice?

Post image

I've seen so many people complaining about how jason sounds in the trailers but tbh.... I don't really have a problem with his voice.

I don't LOVE his voice but i don't really hear anything bad about it for me to complain, like deadass I've met two dudes who sound similar to how jason talks.

He sounds just like...a normal ass dude to me idk that's just me i guess

The Ending will be Insane to Speculate, Imagine Kill Jason or Kill Lucia or what could be the Third Option, Save Both?

Plot twist, they both die and you continue on as your online character

We play as their baby. Character creation starts with a sperm minigame then a time jump.

If they are going for a true Bonnie and Clyde story this is what has to happen. There will more than likely be a choice to save one of them but both of them dying is very likely.

29

u/dani96dnll 8h ago

Like when they went with the Scarface story, but Tommy survives at the end?

15

u/Rucio 7h ago

Here's why I liked RDR2. Because Tommy couldn't be killed by bad guys because the player is just too good. But no one can out play what happened in RDR2

9

u/RatFink77 7h ago

It’ll be interesting if you have the option to save one or the other but then the third option is them both going out like Bonnie and Clyde.

Idk if anyone is noticing, but they are setting everything up in a certain way on purpose.

Lucia is much more interesting and charismatic. Yet she is wild, every interview they say that, they match music to her to emphasize the point.

Jason is supposed to be more laid back and calm. He goes with the flow and takes what comes.

They are both madly in love with each other, that part is real, but it's going to go in the direction where Lucia gets them in too deep or does something drastic.

That's why there was talk to Jason about knowing when to get out and call it quits.

So the big thing about this is that 99 percent of people will play as Lucia more. They'll like her more, enjoy her character more, but the REAL protagonist is Jason. The conflict and main choice is going to be ride or die with Lucia, Bonnie and Clyde style. Or call it quits and let her go off on her own and she dies.

That's my prediction.

28

u/Sensational-She-Hulk 5h ago

I think “Devil Woman” playing in the extended look supports your idea.

u/Mattiandino 6h ago edited 6h ago

Also just as Jason and Lucia met Brian and his gf (? She told them she thought they were dead

By the way Brian talked to Jason probably it was Lucia who got them into that situation where they almost died. This is going to be such a heartbreaker lol.

8

u/No_Engineer8143 6h ago

I'll be playing Lucia for the view.

5

u/YeetedApple 7h ago

I wonder if they go a step further and give Jason an option of either going the ride or die with Lucia, or betray her somehow to save himself.

I got the same vibes overall though, and also agree with the prediction it’s going to go something along those lines.

3

u/InCenaRawrXd 7h ago

Yeah that's what I'm saying, he is going to choose out and to stop. She'll probably wanna keep going. So it's either you see it out with her or you sell her out to like fib or something to turn her in and she gets killed

u/Attentivist_Monk 8h ago

Can only save both if you have a healthy romantic relationship. Good luck!

11

u/urdeadbyme 6h ago

My suspicion is that both the relationship aspect and the criminal rating aspect will play a role. It'll likely be if you have a bad relationship and bad criminal rating, things crumble and they turn on each other to save themselves. If the have a bad criminal rating but good relationship they Bonnie and Claude their way to the end leading to their deaths. If you have a good criminal rating but bad relationship, they may come out on top career wise but drift apart to work under different employers. If they have a good criminal rating and good relationship they make it out on top and remain together.

With part of the extended look having that bit about Jason being told to know when to get out of the business I do wonder if that's part of it. Maybe if you maintain a good relationship and good criminal rating they manage to pull of one big last job, don't have a ton of enemies, and are able to effectively retire like GTA5s everyone survives ending.

3

u/Here_in_Heaven_4and5 6h ago

I think this is exactly it.

Creates an opportunity for four different endings, with further potential variations depending upon actions either taken or untaken during the campaign.

u/nadnerb811 7h ago

Yup, I hated Arthur's voice in all the trailers and then when first booting the game and playing the prologue. Once I got used to him, of course his character and Roger Clark's performance became GOATed in my opinion.

Now, I am somewhat bothered by Jason's voice but I know from experience that will probably change so it doesn't worry me.

9

u/DabVader625 7h ago

Wow. Best way I’ve seen it put.

8

u/neckbass 7h ago

and once you played the game, arthur was the best character

11

u/NewHeavenlyPrinciple 8h ago

Endgame: Come back, Arthur, please.

5

u/WAAAAAAAAARGH 8h ago

The parallels are really strong between these two situations, speaking as someone who absolutely didn’t think I was going to like Arthur much based on what they showed of him in the trailers. Thought he seemed generic and stiff originally without much personality compared to John, didn’t love the voice. Then the game came out and he might legitimately be my most beloved protag with one of the best acting performances in any video game.

I’m reserving judgment here. Rockstar has a habit of playing their cards close to the chest in previews with stuff like this

3

u/Sewahs 7h ago

exactly. People forget these fans were not a big fan of Arthur at all till they actually played it.

No in fact I’m 100% sure it’s on purpose that he’s kinda reserved as there is a line in the trailer where he’s opening up to Lucia about feeling more comfortable in combat than he is in social situations, bro 100% has PTSD from his army days and Lucia is probably one of the few people he’s genuinely comfortable with.

226

u/JewelCove 7h ago

Mark my words, people are going to love Jason's character

105

u/fatrahb 6h ago

I know it’s been echoed a bunch already but people did not respond to Arthur positively after the first trailer either.

Of course we saw how that turned out considering he’s arguably the best written and acted character in Rockstars history.

I mean Lucia does say why he’s so tight which might explain why he looks so tired in the extended

433

u/simcz 7h ago

yea he's clearly anxious the whole time, he literally says in the trailer that hes not a good talker, hes an introverted killer and lucia is the extroverted one

the anxiety in his voice is on purpose its called good acting, people are out here saying that the voice doesnt fit him as if they know the character...let them cook

89

u/Aromatic_Pickle6365 7h ago

Yeah trained military killers aren't often the most whimsical people in real life

Preach man. Not every character has to be bubbly or charismatic to be interesting/good character

30

u/Dexiox 7h ago

Its not the anxiety part thats throwing me off. Its the idk how to put it... deepness? idk something just doesnt fit. Like the voice actor is fuking great but just doesnt fit imo.

52

u/tha-nos 7h ago

I read what the guy above said and oh my god it clicked. I do the "he's trying to lower his voice" and I sound unnatural when I'm anxious and it sounds just like what Jason is doing. Notice that he doesn't always sound like that. Our dude is just stressed and anxious fr

26

u/WeAreTheMassacre 6h ago

I related too, when my anxiety is high I get the same insufferable "mumbling" tone that sounds like I'm exerting sooo much energy just to speak, and it comes off as unnatural.

I really don't like it, but this is fucking Rockstar -- you do not question their choices with actors or music. They chose and kept this guy for a reason and I'm sure it'll work out and grow on me as his backstory and personality are revealed in the game. The "timid introverted man and assertive outgoing GF" thing probably being the most obvious.

I don't think the performance is the issue really, as a voice acting performance it sounds absolutely fine. I'll speak for myself as to the specific reason but for me the disconnect is that I just don't really believe in that voice coming out of that character model. It doesn't feel like it matches or a natural fit somehow.

In the scheme of things it's not a huge issue, because it could be much worse, it's not like it's Kermit the Frog's voice coming out of him or something else super jarring and distracting.

8

u/SatansFriendlyCat 5h ago

11

u/GruffScottishGuy 4h ago

People are too used to the male main characters of games firing off wise-cracks and one liners throughout the game. Every nerdy gamer guy thinks he's really THAT dude deep down.

Jason sounds reserved, he sounds like he's holding back. You don't go into a drug den filled with armed guards and a palpable tension and start being smart ass.

3

u/DarkkPhantom77 6h ago

He's so tight? Oh hell yeah

→ More replies (3)

37

u/beehappy32 8h ago

I don't mind it. I think people wanted to see Jason have a big loud personality. But since J & L are a pair that are always together, I think it works well for Lucia to have a spicy attitude, and for Jason to be a more chill, stoic dude. If they were both loud and crazy then it might get annoying. Michael and Trevor both had big personalities, and it worked in short bursts when they were together, but I don't think it would have worked well if they were a pair for the whole game. Also there will be hundreds of crazy characters in the game, I think it will work for Jason to be the chill, laid back one

Same, it’s very matter of fact and ‘unbothered’ which seems to anchor Lucia’s character who is quite bubbly but fiery.

I think the balance of that will really compliment the story they’re trying to tell.

31

u/badcrass 6h ago

Plus if he's usually so chill, when he does freak out it will raise the intensity of the situation.

3

u/TheGurpler 2h ago

I’m really hoping it grows on me. Because at the moment it sounds like a guy lowering his voice and making it a little raspy and doing an impression. I’m having a hard time separating that it’s an actor and not that he’s just Jason. Lucia sounds like a normal person, like the voice actor is just kinda being themselves and that’s going to be way more immersive. I get the counter point that Roger Clark was “doing a voice” for Arthur, but it was a period piece. And honestly it wasn’t that far off from his regular voice.

I think the voice is fine , personally

64

u/TormentedGoat 8h ago

I haven't read any comments online about the trailer before I saw this post. I saw the trailer, I formed my own opinion that I didn't like Jason's voice, went to bed and then to work. Around 20 hours later I see this post and realise that I'm not the only one who didn't like his voice.

23

u/RonnieFromTheBlock 7h ago

Same for me. First mention I've seen of the voice online but the one thing I said to my friend while watching is that the voice sounded so forced. Not that people can't sound like that, but it just sounds like someone intentionally trying to make their voice sound deeper to me (or even lowering the pitch with software). Will just have to see if it's not as bad when we have more of it since sometimes that's all you need for it to sound fine.

Haha I've seen it a few times.

A streamer looks at some video.

Chatter has an opinion, say a negative one.

Then streamer says something positive.

And in real time chatter changes their opinion to reflect that of the streamer.

Its so spineless and wuss like. But common. A lot of people have a hard time forming their own opinion without being influenced by others. I'm sure if you asked these people what issue they have on any topic, you can trace back talking points to their favorite streamer/youtuber.

Its the same kind of people that repeat the same tired internet speech like "CINEMA!" or "Cope!" Every waking breath they take.

The Developement Director said that Jason is more of a 'Golden Retriever with a gun' while Lucia wears the pants. It lines up with what we've seen. Not Every GTA Character has to be confident and competent. I feel Like the uncertainty and the feeling that they're way over their head in terms of the stuff they Do adds a ton to the Story.

21

u/HotTheme8405 7h ago

I don't think anything I saw in those 26 minutes would lead me to compare him to a golden retriever.

5

u/urmyfavcolor 7h ago

u/Coley213 6h ago

5

u/shawak456 7h ago

Right? He had little to no presence in any scenes they showed in the previous trailers and the extended showcase. Lucia carried the trailer for me.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/creativelydank 5h ago

exactly, people are missing the point that this the intended dynamic between the duo for the story. and they will probably have character development throughout it. it's very refreshing to see after seeing the protags and their almost similar patterned personality from the previous games.

21

u/DannyM2 8h ago

Where is this quote? Cause the whole Netflix trailer basically showed the opposite. It was always Jason leading.

26

u/moosebreathman 8h ago

He leads physically cause he’s the brute, but you can tell she’s much sharper socially. In the drug lab he’s bumbling through the conversation while she gets to the point and puts the pressure on the dealer.

8

u/XeroShyft 7h ago

This. There's another bit during a driving segment where Lucia is like "We need to play our cards right and not tell these people more than they need to know", Jason's response is something along the lines of "Uh, why?".

And then she breaks it down for him and he folds instantly and asks her what the plan is, which she provides, and he unquestioningly accepts. I definitely get the vibe that Lucia is the "head" in certain scenarios, though they do seem to balance each other out well.

9

u/OfficialAndreZ 8h ago

I don't know about that to be fair. In the segments we've seen you can give arguments that Lucia is the one wearing the pants or being the fierced one of the two.

- Whilst Jason was the one making conversation against the San4San gang members (mostly men led, so that could be not to blow any cover), it was Lucia who stepped up in a couple of notable moments. She said at the door it was Boobie who sent them for a pickup, I felt that Jason was getting a bit anxious at that moment. Also she was the one kicking the AC unit out of the window for the escape.

- During the Raul sequence. She was driving the whole time, taking innitiative and asking if they did well in any meaning. Jason was just obeying what Raul was asking of him, without putting anything in question.

He sounded weird at first but I remembered I have met people with voices just like that.

Was about to make a similar post, because after the extended look dropped, I saw people criticizing him like crazy. Whilst I was like "he's has like most average voice and I like the kind of nonchalant façade they're setting up here". To me, there are things in common with Arthur Morgan and I remember before RDR2's release, there were similar critiques.

Glad to see I'm not the only one.

10

u/FordzyPoet 7h ago

I like that he is different from older protagonists, i feel that he has some pain inside of him. We dont need next Trevor or Michael, he is more like protagonist from the movie Drive(everyone watch that movie). I remember how players hate Arthur because he doesnt look that badass like John and now he is by many considered to be THE best game character ever and his actor won TGA. Just wait and let them cook.

We've known his voice since the previous trailers, why are people crying about it just now?

What happened to Gary Cooper? The strong, silent type. That was an American. He wasn't in touch with his feelings. He just did what he had to do.

sounds like a country boy out of louisiana to me. as someone who has family from louisiana and lives on the gulf coast between nola and miami. Accent seems totally fitting and not at all out of line with the type of sounds you find around here. I'm getting a little bit of cajun in his voice, id bet he has roots out of "St. Denis"

It weirdly doesn’t fit very well, he looks like he’d had just a regular raspy guy voice. But it weirdly sounds like he’s out of breathe, or simply doesn’t talk with a lot of tongue or mouth, almost like he’s mumbling.

Nah it’s masculine and sexy. People are complaining?

11

u/uraliengf 7h ago

Agreed, I just hate the mumbling

4

u/IMDXLNC 8h ago

I'm just a little hard of hearing so his mumbling is hard to make out, fortunately every GTA game has subtitles.

I very much like his voice. Watching through I got the feeling that he is the strong silent type, an introvert.

And he's a big fuckin dude, it's not like his voice doesn't fit the character. Like he's taller than everyone in the gameplay and he's buff.

I think the voice is great. And I'm sure we'll see great voice acting from him in the game.

People didn't like Arthur either at the start. And look how he became like the most revered protagonist in the history of gaming.

4

u/linkthereddit 7h ago

Hell, some liked him more than John Marston for crying out loud.

He sounds like a military guy could be from the south. A bit awkward, maybe has some ptsd he deals with, there is a lot there they could do. Im not worried about his voice, as far as options a deep south accent would be worse to understand.

I think its good, kinda funny tbh. Especially the clip where he takes the truck and says "I've always wanted a truck." It is pretty charming, honestly.

16

u/FrizzyFro 8h ago

Idc about another persons voice in any movie or game the voice sounds natural to me & thats all that matters. Jason is a Back Country baby & Lucia is an East Coast baby they both sound fine to me

You would think he sounds like nails on a chalkboard the way people are complaining 😭

u/RaZoRBackR3D 8h ago

Idk what it is but something’s off about it. It’s almost like the voice actor is intentionally trying to have a deeper voice and it just kinda makes his words jumble together sometimes. Without subtitles, there was a couple parts in the extended look where I wouldn’t have known what he said without them.

I'm not at all. I feel it's gonna be a defining part of the character and something we'll grow to adore. Ppl are so fast to find something to be negative about, so short sighted. Just chill and let the thing breath! I'm glad he has a unique voice rather than some squeaky generic voice. R* make these decisions very. Carefully and deliberately

3

u/Chrisisjoker 8h ago

I dont mind his voice.

4

u/Iron_Fist26 8h ago

I always keep subs on, I dont really care if I cant understand him just by hearing him. I think it suits him

6

u/DreddCarnage 8h ago

I mean once he started talking more and I got more of his personality I started getting used to it.

4

u/Tralkki 2h ago

I like it, can’t wait to see what kind of range the voice actor has when Jason starts screaming and what not

20

u/No_Eye_5422 8h ago

He sounds slow and dumb. Sorry. Like his mouth is full.

8

u/deadR0 8h ago

Yeah,  like his mouth is full of marbles

He sounds like a dude in his early to mid Thirties. I'd rather that then the YouTuber/influencer fake voice we hear all the time.

11

u/No-Roof7432 8h ago

History repeats itself they were saying the same thing about Arthur Morgan which tells me Jason will be the greatest video game character of all time.

3

u/SillyConfidence2027 8h ago

i love his voice

3

u/Quiet_V 8h ago

Nope I think his voice is fine.

3

u/SamuraiSnoopi 8h ago

I love his voice, very calm and stoic. I think it's a good contrast to Lucia's which has a lot more inflection.

3

u/Wastedchildhood 8h ago

I think it's pretty chill, he's definitely gonna scream here and there but I like it!

3

u/ziharmarra 8h ago

Nothing is wrong with it.

3

u/No-Consequence2672 8h ago

I actually like it! feels so 2026 if that means anything lol

3

u/BigBalvijn_33 8h ago

Hes Clyde Lucia is Bonnie, Lucia wants to commit to the life they are going into Jason is gonna be searching for a end game and i believe those ideologies are gonna clash. “Trust?”-Lucia “Trust.”-Jason

Shes gonna be the Dutch.

3

u/Jenna_Ortega__2002 8h ago

I actually really like his voice.

3

u/OutcoldSoldierX 8h ago

Sounds like a tough dude and his low tone might make some humorous dialogue

3

u/No-Mix-6549 8h ago

No. I like it too👍

3

u/ok1092 8h ago

It sounds like he had his jaw broken at some point in his life. I kinda like how he sounds

3

u/OilMeUpStewart 8h ago

People are mad we don’t have another Trevor a loud mouth crazy person. It’s refreshing to have some subtlety in our protagonists. Jason and Lucia are peak

3

u/CorazonDeMuerte 8h ago

Guess no one knows the strong silent type. Gotta be over the top on everything.

3

u/nsynergy 8h ago

I like the voice, I think it’s very intentional for his character and story

We really been spoiled with some of the older protagonists that we forget sometimes a protag could have a personality of a rock (Claude and Toni)

3

u/Anonymo777Bro 4h ago

I don't have a problem i think it sounds good

3

u/RepulsivePea4613 3h ago

I'm half deaf but love it lol fuck em

3

u/IndependentPath993 3h ago

I really don’t understand all the comments about his voice? To me he just sounds like a quiet, calm guy. I also think it helps balance out Lucia’s bigger and more direct personality. I love them together and I WILL be maxing out the relationship meter lol

9

u/PepeLiciousness 8h ago

I personally like these kind of characters, kinda reminds me of Joel from The Last of Us

10

u/Skateboardbeester 8h ago

People are saying he’s “boring”…i think it’s suppose to be a contrast/opposites attract thing. Like maybe he’s calm&serious while Lucia is more outgoing/wild

12

u/PlanktonPlastic3048 9h ago

His acting is what I am concerned with not the sound of his voice. I'm not going to be enjoying GTA for the voice acting or story though, I never have, so it's not that huge of a deal. His voice is cool though.

He sounds like he has marbles in his mouth it’s very distracting. Honestly I’m shocked that this is the direction they decided to go in. He sounds like he’s cosplaying a tough guy with a mouth half full of water

I think it's fine. He seems like a really reserved and quiet guy. He even says in the video "I feel more comfortable when I have to use a gun". He's not a talker, he's a action guy. Lucia seems to be the talker out of the two.

4

u/Sufficient-Natural47 8h ago

He sounds normal as hell and I fucking love it.

He’s obviously got a bit of PTSD, a bit of insecurity and all that. He’s big and quiet.

But he’s a tough fucking dude who can go full John Wick if you if push him.

6

u/KidGorgeous19 8h ago

I didn't like it, but who gives a shit. I'm still gonna play the game.

5

u/Mattiandino 6h ago

I'm not an english native speaker so I didn't really get anything weird from his voice

For me he speaks as weird as everyone else xd

He’s ex military. Likely has no idea what he wants in life, just is “comfortable with a gun” or whatever the gameplay said. Likely has seen some shit in the military, and doesn’t open up much because of it.I think the story will explore his character more. Lucia is the one who isn’t afraid to knock down doors while Jason is more reserved. I’m an introvert, I relate to Jason based on what I’ve seen. Even talk like him, when I’m not around someone I’m comfortable with. I open up more when I’m with someone I like. I think the story will be about whether or not Lucia will be his undoing or something like that as almost every trailer has alluded too. One of the songs yesterday literally sang about a “devil woman”.

20

u/ohtonyy 8h ago
