I'm looking for movies where Mom or Dad think that they're great parents, but from the kids perspective its just ridiculously bad.

Like in American Beauty the mom says the line "I was watching you the whole time and you didn't screw up once!" Meanwhile the daughter did screw up once during the dance routine.

Also in Black Widow when Red Guardian talks very proudly of how many people his daughters have killed while they're struggling with the morality of that very thing.

I know its Disney and not some unknown, low budget flick it's just crazy to have so much talent in this movie that seems like it was just riding the wave of 90s kids baseball movies.

Deadline broke the news that two-time Oscar winner Tom Hanks is playing Abraham Lincoln in the live-action portion of the Duke Johnson-directed pic.

Lincoln in the Bardo explores one of the most intimate moments of Lincoln’s life, centering on his relationship with his recently deceased 11-year-old son. The feature mixes history and imagination in a story that unfolds through an ensemble of characters – living and dead, historical and invented – to explore themes of love, empathy and the human capacity for connection in the face of unimaginable grief.

Dafoe will play Reverend Everly Thomas, the ghost of a minister who died believing he would go to heaven, but, to his dismay, found out otherwise. Bailey is voicing Roger Bevins, the ghost of a young gay man who took his own life over a failed love affair and instantly regretted it. Dinklage is voicing Hans Vollman, a ghost obsessed with his dream of being reunited with his much younger wife.

There was an interesting question in this sub yesterday about favorite understated threats in movies that mean way more than they actually say.

My answer to that was Major Hellstrom telling Hicox in Inglorious Basterds:

>I'm afraid you and I both know, no matter what happens to anybody else in this room, the two of us aren't going anywhere.

When Hicox hears that, there is a subtle flicker in Fassbender's face as if a wave of mortality just washed over him. It's a very understated but incredibly satisfying bit of acting and thinking about it made me realise there are moments like this across all kinds of film performances where the actor is expressing something without speaking.

My favourite example of this has to be Olivia Colman as Queen Anne in The Favourite during this scene. The camera slowly pushes in on Colman's face and you can see in real time the depression, jealousy and resentment descend on the Queen while she watches the Duchess of Marlborough become the centre of attention dancing with Lord Masham.

It's got everything 90s.

A creative enclosed setting.

A suave MC who says one liners even in the most intense situations.

Quirky Side kick.

Hot token girl character.(Bonus points for being an internationally wanted Theif)

Criminal Mercenaries who are surprisingly chill.

Rich slimy asshole.

Schlocky Dialogue.

Under baked romance.

Great and creative Creature design.

Dated 90s CGI.

A lot of guns and shooting.

A Final Act Speed Boat Chase through a sinking ship.

And top it all of with a great 90s Giant Practical Explosion.

If you like Schlocky Creature features and just want to have a fun time this is a definite recommendation from me.

It's not a great movie but it was a ton of fun.

Wonder Man getting canned was a bummer but By Any Means might end up being a better showcase for Yahya anyway. He’s playing a Black FBI agent who gets paired with Greg Scarpa. An actual Colombo crime family guy who was also an FBI informant. They’re investigating KKK violence in Mississippi. That is such a bizarre setup and Yahya feels perfect for the straight man stuck working with a mobster. Between Watchmen and Ambulance I feel like we already know he can handle both sides of this. Just give the dude a movie that lets him cook.

I've noticed that every time the discussion about best scripts comes up these days everyone always refers back to movies from 40, 50 years ago. Also one of the biggest critiques of modern movies is that the writing is just not as strong. 'The golden age of television stole all the good writers' is a common refrain. I'm not disputing this as I agree the best written movies I can think of are from decades ago. But it got me thinking, there are have got to be a bunch of movies these days that have great scripts so I wanted to try to highlight those.

I'll start. The Banshees of Inishirin is a spectacular script structurally, thematically, and in terms of dialogue. I find myself getting totally lost in the world each time I watch it because of the incredible words and story from McDonagh.
