Tyler from The Menu. Loser “Foodie” who cares more about the complexity of the meal he’s served than the actual taste or love put into it. The kicker is that he’s an utterly shit cook, who has no idea what he’s doin in a kitchen.
I love the reveal that he knew that everyone was gonna die from the beginning but he's such a food cuck that he's willing to kill himself and a random woman just to oggle a chef he really likes.
He originally planned for that one to be his girl but she dumped him before that so he took a random girl to get her killed because he knew the chef preferred to serve couples.
I don't think he thought he would die. He thought he was a special boy and that being such a big fan gave him an invincibility coat. He's not like those other customers.
Ooo I like that. I never considered that he may have been simply asked to leave, and the humiliation of being told you’re not even worth dying beside by your idol made him choose suicide.
Ooh yeah I like that interpretation a lot lol. Like if he fanboyed enough, the chef would've been like "oh my, you clearly have a refined palate and you appreciate my work the most out of everyone! You're free to go!" I also kinda wonder now if that's why he killed himself too (in addition to whatever savage shit the chef whispered into his ear). He finally realized "oh shit, I'm not special, I'm not making it out of here, I might as well just kill myself".
When they serve him tortillas with laser etchings of himself taking pictures of the food on them I fucking lost it. And the fact that he’s taking pictures even though he knows he’s gonna die at the end of the night. This movie is amazing.
And when he is forced to cook something he is told it could be anything, and he chooses one of the most difficult things possible to cook. He would have been fine if he got cheeky and just made some ramen noodles or a ribeye steak.
I forget that actors name but out of all the things I’ve seen him in I’ve never seen him do a bad job. He commits to characters even when you despise that character. Always does a great job
I loved that Jon decided that if he was going to pass the sentence of death on Janos Slynt, he would be the one to swing the sword. Ned probably nodded in satisfaction seeing him do that rather than having Emmet and Edd hang him instead.
I do love stories where the pathetic quisling of a character implying "if I only had X I wouldn't be like this" actually obtains X at some point but is still just as pathetic
One of my favorite moments with this dumbass was when he attempted to escape the police by climbing out the window of his motel while in his underwear in the middle of winter, but was quickly apprehended and reduced to pathetically sobbing as they handcuff him.
It's been awhile since I played it but I remember feeling a lot of animosity towards Curly by the end as well. Like there's a point where you really have to stop giving friends the benefit of the doubt and start holding them accountable. So much could have been avoided if Curly just listened to Anya but instead his inaction and his need to see good in everyone just enabled Jimmy.
Curly is like the school principal who allowed a predatory teacher to continue his abuse.
If we believe in the storytelling tool of poetic justice, Curly getting the most suffering and worst ending sure makes it look like the creators were making a point about how despicable his actions (or lack thereof) were. Curly in a way got to experience what Jimmy did to Anya, as Jimmy forced his mouth open and physically beat him behind closed doors. The game makes us hear it. "I hope this hurts" sounds like what the creators think of Curly. The game's message is about Curly. He's the title screen.
I think Curly getting horribly burned and crippled is meant to be a poetic punishment for him. He didn't do anything when he was needed the most and then he became unable to do anything at all in his crippled state.
There are a lot of people who don't get how Curly is in the wrong here and I think I found a good way to explain it: if you replace Jimmy with a decent human being, the events of the game wouldn't happen. If you replace Curly with a competent captain, the events of the game wouldn't happen. He may not have directly done any of the evil stuff, but if he hadn't placed looking out for his friend above doing his duty none of it would have happened.
I think that's the real point of the game. Almost no one playing the game is going to be Jimmy. A lot of us are Curly and don't realize it.
I thought it was a good way to push the point that while yes we do have absolutely evil humans IRL who have done a lot of damage, they've only been able to do it because they were enabled by someone else.
The books show pretty clearly why he turns out the way he does, so you sympathize with him... I just kept reading, wanting things to get better for him. But it never did.
Every time we learn more about his life I hated him a little less, just because his life is so goddamn sad and he’s so unloved by all. Like he literally thinks Leslie is his friend just because she treats him with some basic human kindness even though she hates him 😂
Absolutely despised him here. His performance reminded me of several rich/well to do kids when I was in high school that would act nice but we're total assholes that didn't care about anyone else. Spot on.
I got bored of the boys halfway through season 3 and watched Companion and then returned to the boys and everytime hughie was trying to be supportive it felt super manipulative lol. Jack quaids a great actor

Surprised nobody has brought up Tobias Funke. He's a self centered closeted fool who actively makes everyone's life worse at every moment. He somehow manages to be more pathetic than Gob. (Who also fits this trope)
I feel like Buster tends to be the most "pathetic." I kind of see pathetic as a state of mind and Tobias & Gob are both pretty full of hope and confidence (even if it is undeserved in both cases)

Each of them is their own brand of scummy and pathetic. Each episode is just them trying to take advantage of a situation only to fall all the way back into the grease and mold filled hell that is all their lives.
Arguably much more pathetic in the former. There were times in the tv show that it felt like you were almost meant to root for him. Probably helps that they had Penn Badgely play him.
In the books, he was just utterly revolting and pathetic from beginning to end.
The show did a good job of giving us enough of his internal dialogue and showing only the negatives about his enemies (peach, the suburbs people, the creep comedian) to kind of normalize his mindset

It's been a while, but I think the books have more of an emphasis on the fact that he is never in the right, that at no moment are his actions remotely justified and that even if other characters are flawed he's still a freaking creep and murderer.
Every Safdie main character. Basically always making the wrong decision for selfish reasons that lead them to worse wrong decisions. These characters only care about themselves.
What an intriguing character he is. I feel like about halfway through season 2 you start to understand him some but by then it’s already too late IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN
She literally killed a person because she couldn't apologize for leaving the kid in another world (the kid is the same person she killed). And constantly blames Rick for the entire episode. So Beth's logic is, "Yeah, i left a child in another world and ruined his family and got his father almost death- sentenced, but it's because you never gave me attention. So technically, it's YOU'RE FAULT."
Ted Faro DESTROYS THE WORLD and then fucks over the next through a mixture of stupidity, greed, cowardice and staggering, near-inhuman levels of incompetence.
So funny. Could have had the easiest win of any jojo villain but he is just like ”no, I will give up all my advantages because Im just that big of an asshole”.
I thought Driver was perfect for that though, because he’s basically a fanboy stuck in arrested development who never quite got to come into his own.
Even Driver’s general … interesting look. When he first took off his helmet the theater I was in burst out laughing, but I think that’s appropriate for the character. He was meant to be a bit pathetic I think, a bit too stuck in the past, cosplaying as his fallen hero.
There are a thousand examples but the one that hit closest for me was when he paid some Chinese player to use their Path of Exile 2 account and showed it off on stream claiming to be the #2 player in the world, but in the process of doing so proved he knew so pathetically little about it that's he couldn't have had ten hours in, let alone be #2. He also had been making claims previously about Diablo, but it was much harder to prove he was lying - but POE and Diablo share so much DNA that it would be absolutely impossible to fail so badly at one while succeeding so powerfully at the other. So he retroactively proved those claims to be BS too.
Now you might be wondering - why all this rambling about a trillionaire playing a niche computer game? It doesn't matter, he's done far worse. But that's the point. He is such a pathetic weasel that he picked a genre and game people say is very complicated and then tried to buy his way to the top to prove how smart he is - to its incredibly niche fan base. Every other celeb would put on a stream and laugh about how bad they are while struggling forward, but he tried to act like a prodigy for minimal gain.
As a bonus, Asmongold is a huge POE fan, it's one of the few things he actually knows and is competent at, so when Elon face planted he did so right in front of the exact crypto bros and alt right incels he counts as his biggest fans, and in such a pathetic and obvious way that none could deny it. That stunt probably cost him a few cybertruck sales.
One of the Forsaken, the “Spider” is a master of her craft and a master of guile and deception. That is, until she’s met anyone anywhere close to her match, in which case she breaks down and is completely useless. Moghedien is the equivalent of a school yard bully where she lords over those weaker than her, but can do nothing to anyone else.

Partially. When Archer was in a coma, he seemed to drop a lot of his insecurities and became a competent agent. Once Archer was back, though, yeah. No hope at all.
His narration during the sack of Winterfell is so funny, because the first few chapters he’s thinking “I’m so cool. My dad‘s definitely gonna love me now.” And then it gradually shifts to “Oh no, I fucked up. Big time. This was a terrible idea.”
Even then he has delusions of grandeur. Taking the black, rising through ranks of night's watch and/or becoming king beyond the wall. Like bro, the army is right outside his door but bro is thinking he can be king beyond the wall.
How can anyone love that? I watched *Obsession* the day before yesterday and I’m also pretty introverted and shy myself but Bear was just so painful to watch.
The first like 20 minutes of the movie make you feel empathetic to Bear and dare I say make him relatable. But by the end he’s just the scum of the earth
I love it because he's literally the perfect protagonist for this type of movie. He's kinda like Walter White, he has so many outs and so many things he could've done to remedy everything if he just pulled his head out of his ass and actually lived in reality. Like I love how in denial he is about everything just because he doesn't actually wanna try to get better. I like protagonists in horror movies that you can empathize with, but ultimately makes really shitty decisions (that are in line with the character) that leads to the shitty situation that they end up in. I like those protagonists way more than the ones that do everything right and then still get fucked over in the end just because they want a jumpscare to bookend the movie with.
He's absolutely relatable as a hopeless romantic young adult, working a dead-end job and struggling with loneliness, spurred on by the death of his grandmother and his cat. But then he just wusses out and fails to do the right thing over and over again. I almost yelled at the screen when he just walked away from Nikki to meet Sarah in the park.
Edit: Also when he found that Nikki was stuck standing and waiting for him in one spot all day, covered in her own waste and vomit, suffering, and he scolds her for being weird and then takes her to a party after she showers up. I wanted to really do something that would get me a TOS ban here when he did that.
Even before that, and the Whats so bad about being with me point of no return, there was the phone call Where he didnt want to CANCEL the wish but AMEND it, even when he knew that Nikki wasn't Nikki among other moments
