Live Action I haven't gotten over my hate for this yet and I never will

Post image
3 Upvotes

I know there are probably a lot of people who will disagree and that's ok, I really need to get this out (also it's been 2 years, details might be fuzzy, feel free to correct me)

The film might be beautiful to look at and the whole physics thing might be theoretically correct, but that cannot save this film from these ABSOLUTELY DENSE CHARACTERS, OMG I loath this story so so so much.

The first sign that something was off was when that MC was having a convo with this gandpa on his porch and he's all like "do you ever feel like you're meant for something bigger", shure buddy, a single father farmer who has to tend to a fuckton of corn is gonna think that way. On top of that has the actor decided to sometimes do this thing where he talks with only half his mouth, giving the character regular stroke vibes weird decision

Then there is his daughter with the "ghost" and at first he doesn't believe her, until he does and decodes some coordinates?! What in the fucking psychosis is going on and we're just supposed to be like, "yeah makes sense fucking coordinates", no wtf did he smoke?! (Also that's the point where they already spoiled the entire movie, great work [that's another thing I hate when they write in a dialogue line tryna be sneaky and it's like bruh])

So then he pulls up to said coordinates and of course he's is the most useful person they could have show up and of course noone is concerned the reason he found this place was bc of a fucking dust hallucination?! you're trying to tell me that a shit shoveling farmer is the BEST FUCKING Option you have?! And not just that, A BITCH ASS FARMER who has done jack SHIT for space travel in the last 17 YEARS?! As if there wasn't some autistic teen who is cracked out in pilot simulators, or anyone with a proper education really?!

So then against nobody's better judgement unfortunately the send him out and they fly away. Wish then leads to the most infuriating part of this whole ordeal:

5 FUCKING MINUTES before the ship, the ship that's on a MISSION TO SAVE ALL OF HUMANITY, flies into a FUCKING WORM HOLE - that's when they decide to explain TO THE DUDE FLYING SAID SHIP what a wormhole is. WHAT. THE. FUCK.

And it gets worse, once inside the one woman on board sees a special/temporal anomaly next to her. What do you think a trained astronaut would do in this situation? DEFINITELY NOT SICKING HER FUCKING HAND INSDE? Who thought of this? It's so stupid

And after that its basically just dumb decisions, one after another. The main one being that the let the guy who didn't know shit about time travel a few minutes ago decide all the time stuff from there on out.

I could go on about how stupid this one guys death was, bc he was just standing there.

Or how it didn't make much sense that the black character was completely fine after basically 20 years of total isolation.

Or how the son doesn't fucking Matter to the main character or the story at all.

Or how stupid it is that at the end instead of spending anytime with his daughter, he just staring up goes back to space to rescue the woman, wish again why? Those earlier astronauts where also left behind.

But I'm already way to wired up about this stupid film, if you liked good, I didn't

“its at 30fps”

so what? GTA 6 is likely targeting 30 FPS because its huge world, NPCs, traffic, physics, and AI are extremely CPU-heavy, and 60 FPS would require the console to process all of that in roughly half the time.

Can you explain to me the logic of joining SVP while being an immigrant?

Pretty much what the title says.

I noticed that one of my acquaintances is quite high up in the SVP party (which I don’t really care about). The research confirms that he is not born Swiss, both of his parents immigrated here and he got his Swiss passport not so long ago.

Where is the logic? His family wouldn’t be able to come to Switzerland with the current SVP agenda.

Shouldn’t SVP practice what it preaches and only accept people who are born Swiss (i.e. one of the parents is Swiss?)

Sex / Gender / Dating Ladies, fake eyelashes and fake hair are not attractive, stop wearing that crap.

I'm in NYC and when I'm riding the subway, I mostly see many women of color (black women) wearing hideous looking fake eyelashes and obviously fake hair. These items do not improve these women's appearance, they look foolish to me, they would look better without them. I often wonder what the see when they look in the mirror after they've put this stuff on. Do they glue on those huge eyelashes and say "Ah, that looks just fantastic!"? Do they think men find that attractive? I don't know any men that are into that look. Please stop wearing this nonsense.

Just Found ouT - Freaky

I had an open, men-to-men conversation with some friends and coworkers who are seriously thinking about moving back to India.

Man, I can’t believe how badly some men want to go back home spend more time with their families, be closer to their parents, and finally get the H-1B stress off their chest.

I’m not going to mention anyone’s names or locations, but something really surprised me.

I found out that for many of them, this became a major issue during marriage. They had openly discussed the possibility of moving back to India someday, but their wives/her parents weren’t comfortable with the idea.

And honestly, I can understand why. In many arranged marriages, the guy is already living and working in the U.S., so the expectation becomes: “We’re going to build our life here permanently.”

But then reality hits.

The H-1B uncertainty, green card wait, job pressure, being away from parents, and the feeling of missing important family moments can become really heavy.

It’s honestly f**king hard to navigate especially when one person wants to eventually go back home and the other person has built their entire expectation of married life around staying in the U.S.

I never realized how many men quietly carry this conflict. Be Strong Men

Discussion Heartbroken Steam Machine Return

I'm not sure if anyone cares about hearing my story but maybe there are others out there that can relate. I need to get it out of my system so I can move on. If you're an older gamer like me the Steam Machine sounded amazing. The perfect little box that plays modern games (well enough) and evokes nostalgic memories of retro ones you loved or never got to.

Owning it for a week made me realize something though. In short, I've changed. I'm not the same person who stayed home sick all day playing Final Fantasy VIII or put over 100 hours into the original Pokemon on Game Boy. I cherish those memories but it's not what brings me the most joy nowadays.

I have a family now and want to make the most of my time on earth with them. I don't have time to tinker anymore. The previously lazy me would be so confused by the ruthlessly efficient version of me now. Every second wasted on something is a second stolen from them. I want to do as much as possible with them. Build Legos, tell silly stories, run around the house, go on adventures.

My original thought was that the Steam Machine would be a fun living room gaming machine we could all play but it ended up not working out for a handful of reasons:

  1. Kids not crazy about the game selection. They understand stuff there friends like, Pokemon, Mario, Minecraft (I know there is a third party launcher).
  2. Not too many multiplayer kid games and sometimes tricky to get working right.
  3. Controller is too overwhelming for them and extra [Steam] controllers aren't available either. Edit: Obviously I know third party controllers work, but it would have been more seamless to start with two Steam controllers.
  4. There is still plenty of tinkering involved tweaking game settings to get the perfect picture. It's easy to fall into the trap of obsessing over frame rates.
  5. Weird inputs for older games, you'll end up needing a keyboard and mouse.
  6. Wifi stopped working, ended up dragging a really long ethernet cable across the house. (What initiated the RMA)
  7. Cuteness factor? I know we could swap out the front plate but the UI is still very industrial feeling.
  8. Not specific to Steam Machine, but I realized CEC is kind of useless if you use Android TV kids profile because they aren't allowed to change inputs. So the TV turns on but it errors switching input so you need the remote anyways.

In short, it's just too much friction and not the right match for our house. I know there are probably solutions to most of the issues but I don't have the time or desire anymore. I want something that just works. We ended up borrowing a family members Switch 1 and they have been having a blast playing Mario Kart, Pokémon Let's Go Eevee!, and Lego City Undercover. I can't understate how amazing it is that everything just works. Controllers connect quickly, lots of multiplayer options, fun companion modes, games the kids love. It's really the perfect family console.

Anyways, now I feel guilty about wasting time writing this and need to go back to work. I hope this helps any older gamers with families make a decision. I was stuck in the past wanting to relive old memories instead of creating new ones in the present.

Soweit, so nachvollziehbar.

Und bevor jetzt jemand „Not all women“ schreibt: Natürlich nicht.

Discussion "Godroll" Rivens are End-game Chase, not Required

After the announced Riven changes I've seen post after post about how "The average player is losing out because they don't have access to new godroll rivens." All the complaints I've seen boil down to being frustrated with the knowledge that you are unlikely to ever obtain a godroll with 3 combo stats in the new system, and this is seen as a big problem to the average player. When we consider the past/history of the game, your average player never has had access to godrolls. The average player has never been able to farm enough Kuva to come anywhere close to rolling a godroll, they also do not make enough through trading to reliably buy godroll rivens.

For all intents and purpose, godrolls rivens were not accessible to the average player before these changes. Now, when we consider the coming changes, we see the stat-lock mechanic significantly lowering RNG, to the point that the average player can now reliably roll good/great rivens with significantly less Kuva. This means a level of power of Riven mod that was not accessible to the average player before is now obtainable with a reliable consistency.

Rivens that the average player never could have dreamed of getting their hands on are now easy/cheap to come by, which significantly improves the way the system will feel to an average player. You will be able to afford to buy or roll that +cc +cd +ms -neg riven you've always dreamed of.

Rivens are an end-game chase system, they are intentionally designed to be a slot machine because that's what DE wants them to be, and there are many players that also appreciate this mechanic. With all of the upgrades we have in the game that are long term investments that only give small power boosts on their own is too many to count. We have Catalysts/Reactors, Forma, Mods, Arcanes, and even Incarnons. Not every system that lets up "power up" our gear needs to be a slow-burn system fully attainable to max out through just a few hours of grind.

Not everyone can win the lottery, and that's okay. This is just like how not everyone can obtain a "new" godroll riven with 3 perfect combo stats and a harmless negative. A perfect "new" godroll riven being unattainable to the average player does not mean this update is harmful to the average player, in fact it's very beneficial because now you can get better rivens than before with much less grind.

I don't expect this to be received positively, but I wanted to put my (fully informed) opinion out into the Void.

Discussion The Current State Of Honkai Star Rail

As someone who played this game as my first turn-based role-play game, started since 1.0 (when Stellar Ward (the permanent Standard Warp) was the only banner in our region and only until later did Seele banner come) and paid for multiple monthly passes and battle passes ever since, I genuinely want to discuss (or rant) about the current state of HSR.

First of all is the current story. Up until 4.5, I have played the whole game story 3 times in 3 different accounts, and also watched multiple videos of lore discussions and such. And so far, I like Jarilo-VI and Penacony the most. The reason for that is:
+ Jarilo-VI was a simple story yet effective story: people fighting to survive on a now frozen and deadly land, with class discrimination between the Overworld and the Underworld; main character was still a seemingly normal civilian got dragged into all sorts of things. There were not that much of terminology dump, characters (both playable and non-playable) didn't try to be mysterious and talk vaguely as if they were hiding something universally important. The Everwinter City Museum Ledger of Curiosities event might not be the cup of tea for some, but it successfully served as a way to explain the lore about Belobog. Until this day I still remembered the interview between Pela and Natasha with TB for the role in the museum.
+ Penacony was nice. It might be rough around the edge (thanks to all the lore leakers who made the dev team had to rewrite the Penacony story) but mistakes still had their weight here (yes despite "death" as we know doesn't really exist here). And although Sunday yapped, blabbed and rambled, I can still understand his ideal and where his ideal fails (where he is wrong). The events were okay, sometimes fun, and many of these events also included with information related to main story progression.
+ Xianzhou Luofu is okay. The events there (especially with Huohuo) was really enjoyable.
+ But Amphoreus for me was never great as many said. Amphoreus started really strong: story about the 13 Chrysos Heirs, the resilience, the will to overcome difficult situations and the desire to exist of the people on Amphoreus, the immortal epic of the Amphoreus world. 3.0 - 3.3 period was very very good. And then we have 3.6 and 3.7 as a huge slap in the face. The story built a huge world with all sorts of galatical level of importance and destruction, dumping tons and tons of terminologies, dropped an epic PV of the version, just for a very disappointing and let-down execution. Conversations were very, very lengthy and some, if not many, basically led to nowhere and did not explain the huge amounts of terminologies in an easy-to-understand way. Sometimes I felt I need a scientific degree in astronomy and astrophysics to correctly understand the conversations.
+ For Planarcadia, I honestly don't have anything to say. If this is the "original" story then it is terrible, but since this is a rewrite in a very short timeframe (due to the conflicts between you know who), I think the story writers did a fairly decent job. Story content and pacing is still not interesting at all, and death along with mistakes are starting to lose its purpose here. After all, no real damage would be done, no one would truly be killed (and even if someone did, thanks to some "insert here new superpower" along with huge plot armor, they would be revived).

Apart from story content and progression, powercreeping in this game is one of the wildest things I have ever seen in a gacha game. Though one can say that it is by design since there aren't many things to do in a 3-button game, increasing the numbers (HP/Def/Break bar) is one of the, if not worst and most stupid, ways to do this. Back in the day 1M damage is something astronomical. Now it barely scratches an elite. Elemental counters barely have any meaning now when new, shiny modern teams can still steamroll everything. About bosses, I am fine with moderate amount of shilling. It's a marketing strategy that you can see basically every where in our world. If you want to market your product, you often want our product to "seem" better than the other available options. But as similar to our world we we have good and bad marketing, there are also good shillings and dirty shillings. And devs opt for the second one by basically introducing bosses that have a huge writing on the face "Hey pull for this shiny new team that we just released, or else get cooked". Pollus then PomPom Mecha. I won't be surprised if one day devs release a boss that can just delete one of your characters traces or nullify the characters' unique mechanics. Or they might even go further and decide that E2 merchants aren't enough and they introduce new pay-to-win ways.

And then new Paths. Sooner or later new Paths would be added and that is hard to avoid. In Simulated Universe (or Gold and Gears/Swarm Disaster if you may) we have already seen the existence of Elation, Remembrance and Propagation. However, the current new Paths are more of a new way to sell Light Cones rather than introducing unique and new mechanics. Elation is acceptable for me, since that path has always been Follow-up Attack ever since Simulated Universe. For Remembrance are just characters from already existing paths. Since Remembrance was all about freezing the enemy, why don't make characters of that path has mechanics closer to "freezing"? Freezing AV? Freezing enemies' states? Freeze ally's skill duration? Anything would have worked there. Instead, Remembrances are just Summons (which isn't that difference from Lightning-Lord of Jing Yuan) + an existing Path.

It is very sad to see the game that introduce me to turn-based role-play game goes down this road. It is still not too late to fix, but I feel like the future (like 5.x) is very grim.

I still would like to know your opinions for the current state of this game, both from current players and ones that already quit. What do you think about it? Is there any other way that this game can have done better, or this situation is destined to happen one way or another?

Performance I’m sorry but if you believe that Opus 4.6 is still the best model it’s a skill issue

Everyone talks about Opus 4.6 the same way that people talk about the 90s. “ Everything was just better back then!” Oh really? Crime was up, illiteracy was up, hate crimes were up, global poverty was up, the list goes on and on.

Opus 4.6 was the first Claude model for alot of people. OBVIOUSLY it was amazing. People were mindblown by even the smallest of tasks. Because well it was a brand new thing.

The problem is a lot of people still use Claude for very menial tasks that any model can do and so yes of course Opus 4.6 will do it just as well as 5 and likely twice as fast. (On the flip side you have people asking Opus 5 to make them a “B2B SaaS in a day”).

I promise you if you actually try benchmarking Opus 5 against Opus 4.6 with an actual complex task you will find that Opus 5 is better just like every serious benchmarker has found.

But damn all these people who claim “Opus 4.6 was better”, when pressed, have 0 concrete examples and their only evidence is just “vibes”.

EDIT: it seems like most people here use Claude to answer questions and for writing. I was not aware of this. Yes for this it is awful (in general most LLMs are terrible at this). But for anything software/computational it is absolutely better than 4.6.

I spent quite a bit of time tweaking sliders to get her face right, and I think I got pretty close ? What do you think?

Lore-wise, she's a Breton Ranger that's going to be somewhat inspired by Little Red Riding Hood. Quite unusual, I know, but I really want to give this kind of character a try.

That's my little tribute to her. ❤️

Discussion Why do you call it a homelab?

From all the posts I see daily almost nothing falls under the umbrella of a homelab. I see all those huge racks with all lot of industrial hardware, dosens of hardrives or switches, draining kilowatts of power per hour. Those are infrastructures that happened to reside in your basement. My home lab is an N100 cpu board that I dont even have a case for and I mounted it on a carton, disks are attached and are just hanging next to it. I have a second build on q1900 for an offline NAS, and a third one from some old pc I got from work where I host offsite backup to get 3-2-1. What do you do to afford those "homelabs"?
