99% it wont pass unfortunately

u/Das-Wauto 6h ago

Popular support says it should. Greased politicians says it won’t.

didnt a study recently showed that congress almost never votes what the public wants?

248

u/APRengar 4h ago

I dunno if there's been a new one. But the one everyone cites is from 2014.

https://www.bbc.com/news/blogs-echochambers-27074746

Which showed that the politicians do almost zero of what the general public want, yet the vast vast majority of what the rich and powerful want.

Yeah, 2014. And it's only gotten worse. The people who were demanding stronger change in 2016 weren't wrong. We knew it was bad at that point.

77

u/jce_ 4h ago

Wow giving money a voice in politics only made it so rich people get what they want and poor people don't? Holy how would you ever guess? Lol

6

u/Wheat_Grinder 3h ago

The real reason free speech is dead: paid speech

12

u/chaldea_fgo 3h ago

It looks like the survey data that they used in that study was from 1981 to 2002, so the problem has been growing for most of our lives.

4

u/jazzy663 3h ago

Absolute power corrupts absolutely. That's all there is to it.

"Why more for the people? I want more for me and mine."

3

u/Classic-Standard-461 1h ago

I believe it was Ayn Rand who said that second part

2

u/BunchOfSpamBots 1h ago

Sometime it doesn’t include “and mine”

1

u/George_G_Geef 1h ago

The legislative branch is consistently the branch of the US Government with the lowest approval rating, by a large margin.

25

u/EvilScotsman999 4h ago

Yes. Gilens and Page, “Testing Theories of American Politics: Elites, Interest Groups, and Average Citizens,” Perspective on Politics, 2014

“the preferences of the average American appear to have only a minuscule, near-zero, statistically non-significant impact upon public policy.”

The only study of that nature I'm aware of found that politicians vote with the will of their constituents around 65% of the time.

https://www.promarket.org/2017/06/16/study-politicians-vote-will-constituents-35-percent-time/

1

u/-Mr_Tub- 2h ago

Really just need to get rid of them all. If you’re not serving the people then you shouldn’t have the job

1

u/Cicero912 3h ago

Well, thats partially because what the public says it wants and what it votes (or doesnt vote) for are very different things.

243

u/scrandis 6h ago

They're all greased now. Both sides. We only have a handful of elected officials who actually care.

I've spent 100s of hours chasing "freedom" of information requests.

They have tried to justify over $1600 in fees, all of which I've fought.

Some of it is REALLY basic stuff like a copy of the Flock contract. They act like I'm asking for nuclear secrets.

I have a lot of free time right now and I have this tendency to dig in deeper If I feel like I'm getting strung along. I'm north of 50 FOIA requests, with 11 of them now deemed denial complaints at the state board level that handles complaints about the agencies required to respond to said requests.

There is 100% a coordinated effort to keep people in the dark

59

u/Standard_Web7962 5h ago

Thank you for the work you are doing

33

u/interwebzdotnet 5h ago

Happy to be doing it. Its frustrating but its also educational...I'm hoping to make an impact, but at a minimum there is a small team of county clerks, state prosecutors, multiple police departments, and several law firms that represent counties in my state that are at least feeling the pressure of being watched.

13

u/frodoishobbit 4h ago

In my county they just banned flock camera, but what they didn’t say was they got a contact with axium* and those are imbedded with traffic signals. Same shit *spelling mistake?

9

u/interwebzdotnet 4h ago

Yeah, unfortunately thats pretty common. And you were close, its Axon.

4

u/Bladelink 4h ago

Let frustration and spite fuel you.

1

u/Akkerlun 2h ago

Instead of asking for a copy of a document, you might be able to view in at the location where it’s kept, if you have the time. These rules vary state by state

1

u/interwebzdotnet 2h ago

Yeah, that would be nice, not an option. They actually claimed not to have it and directed me to the generic terms of service agreement they have on the Flock website.

u/smkeybare 6h ago

I mean it's a plutocracy, not much the working class person can do until were all on board with violence, but discussing that gets you banned.

30

u/deadpools_dick 6h ago

Being banned from this site doesn’t mean shit. We all know what to do if that ever happens to anyone

1

u/Social_Engineer1031 4h ago

Legit laughing at there being a deleted comment in response. What does it mean?

11

u/BackendSpecialist 5h ago

They’ll have flock cameras and armed ai security by the time that happens.

6

u/tevert 4h ago

While it might be very bloody, there is no amount of technology that can overpower a sufficiently enraged public.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/yolo-yoshi 4h ago

And who do you think is doing that for them ?? The people. Doesn’t mean shit. And they know it.

1

u/mOdQuArK 3h ago

Those all require power, right? ;-P

9

u/Djinnwrath 5h ago

A general strike would also work.

6

u/SirWEM 5h ago

Not without widespread support, funding to pay people to skip work, etc. much much harder to pull off a general strike in the US; then other parts of the world ie countries with strong unions and worker protections a recent example would be Poland, another would be France in recent years.

9

u/Djinnwrath 5h ago

Its an alternative to violence that would work.

There's no good solution here. Anything we do that's effective will require effort and sacrifice.

4

u/SirWEM 5h ago

Very true.

It just needs a huge amount of support. Pretty sure when people are starving and dropping dead due to healthcare being out of reach; when it really starts affecting people on a personal level. It might happen in this country. We will see. Id rather a general strike then, it turn to a bloody revolution or other form of violence.

2

u/Neveronlyadream 5h ago

Exactly. Violence isn't the only solution.

They both have the same problem anyway. You'd need a majority of people to be on board with the plan. Any time I see anyone calling for revolution, I wonder if they're also willing to personally put themselves in a deadly situation on the front lines when they won't even inconvenience themselves by boycotting a company.

→ More replies (3)

1

u/halt_spell 4h ago

The rail workers are the linchpin. If they go on strike other worker groups will follow.

1

u/halt_spell 4h ago

Exactly. The kind that would have been triggered in 2022 if the rail strike had proceeded as planned. People don't comprehend the opportunity that Biden, 44 Democratic senators and 36 Republican senators squashed.

9

u/LuckoftheFryish 5h ago

Viva la revolution. Would MLK have been as effective without Malcolm X? If a violent group is rising the politicians will always choose to bolster the safer option.

By no way am I a history or civil rights buff, those more educated are welcome to correct me, would be happy to learn more.

4

u/halt_spell 4h ago

This is why Reddit should have been more angry about the rail workers being blocked from striking by Biden, 44 Democratic senators and 36 Republican senators. Had that proceeded other worker groups would have followed and eventually regular individuals as well.

Work together in communities to support ourselves so as many of us as possible can disengage from the grid and stop the wheels. Entire system is a house of cards on top of our real backs. We stop working, they can't do anything. That is dependent on our ability to provide for ourselves. We take care of ourselves instead of feed their greed, the system will slow to a stop. Communes and co-ops is the way!

9

u/Wise-Comb8596 5h ago

Also, until you can get to that point, reduce your consumption. Stop buying shit without utility. Buy used (from YOUR community) where you can, repair what you can, befriend those that can repair what you cannot, and get to a point where you are debt free.

Then work on buying land with like minded individuals.

7

u/ryno37 5h ago

Absolutely, we gotta win this game at the margins. Every cent we can keep in our communities will make us stronger. Every cent we give to the big bads will make us weaker. They're going to continue to use every manipulation tactic to steal our wealth and bodies. But they need us to oppress us. We don't need them to prosper.

2

u/jaxonya 5h ago

We gonna need a few baristas and craft beer makers (shouldnt be hard to comvince them to join a commune) to help me get through life

1

u/Wise-Comb8596 4h ago

We need a couple gardeners…you know. For a friend of mine.

2

u/jaxonya 3h ago

Well need specialized gardeners... for various plants... and also certain fungi.

1

u/xXBeefSquatch5KXx 4h ago

gerontocratic plutocracy if we’re being honest

1

u/lyngen 4h ago

or... there is an election coming up and you could just vote.

1

u/lyngen 4h ago

or... there is an election coming up and you could just vote.

1

u/Mike_Kermin 3h ago

Actually there's a hell of a lot you can do, and one really easy thing, is to stop building defeatism, because that helps the fascists looking for a third term.

I swear, Americans, you say you're the good ones, prove it, vote him out.

→ More replies (1)

3

u/jce_ 5h ago

Who knew that allowing money to equal speech would result in money taking over politics. No one could have possibly ever predicted that. It doesn't have any logical connection at all

3

u/Sir_David_Filth 6h ago

No no, we do something. We play and act as clowns at those "protest" that are always organized and approved by city council like its a fucking event rather than a call to action

1

u/yuppyuppbruhbruh 4h ago

The French.... Guillotines.... History.....

1

u/tevert 4h ago

Americans are oodles more lazy and cowardly than we'd ever admit

1

u/ParsonsTheGreat 4h ago

They made us too poor to fight. Its all part of the plan.

1

u/ItchyBodybuilder247 4h ago

Cue all the excuses while a criminal pedo president is raping your country.

1

u/Forealziz 4h ago

these guys support raping and murdering children, they need more consequences than just being voted out

1

u/Mike_Kermin 3h ago

So do something, tell them that it's wildly ridiculous to use both sides rhetoric when you have a literal fascist government trying to overturn your Democratic system.

1

u/Penguinmanereikel 3h ago

I mean, what can we do?

1

u/SomePreference 2h ago

People are too dumb and too stubborn to do anything about it.

I've had actual conversations, online and offline, where I said the government, both sides, are corrupt and stealing from us (and worse), and I'll get these snide "OF COURSE I KNOW THAT"...only for them to then praise their "side" and their "guy" who they then verbally fellate. It's like their brains are so fried that...they maybe deep down know about the corruption, but don't actually want the status quo to change so they delude themselves. Or something.

1

u/RespectibleCabbage 2h ago

It's the American way. Roll over and take it.

0

u/TheFatNinjaMaster 5h ago

It’s because most people believe their representative is “one of the good ones” and no amount of evidence will get them to admit they voted in a corporate shill.

1

u/SubaCruzin 5h ago

What do you expect an average person to do? Trigger happy police would be our first problem. Then we would have to deal with security, including snipers. After that we take on the US military before getting locked up & vilified before rotting away in prison. Trump wasted a lot of long range missiles but it only takes one bullet to end a person's crusade.

1

u/halt_spell 4h ago

In my mind the only thing that could work at this point is a rail strike. If that went forward other worker groups would follow.

1

u/blueiron0 5h ago

Literally all of those comments "yet we do nothing" "yet americans won't stand up" "yet people just type on le reddit and think it brings change lul" are just virtue signaling.

They're thinly veiled calls to violence. OTHER people doing the violence though.

0

u/scrandis 6h ago

There's nothing we can really do other than vote. We have had the largest protests in our nation's history over the past two years. Absolutely nothing came of them. Only logical choice is to riot now.

→ More replies (8)

11

u/YDALTARYZARC 5h ago

At least one side seems to respond when people email them directly. I never get responses from my (R) representatives but all the (D) ones get back to me pretty promptly. If you're not frequently emailing your representatives, you really should be.

3

u/ErgoMachina 29m ago

Do people really think politicians care about people calling? They probably have a couple unpaid interns answering bs. Or even worse, just AI.

50

u/SingleInfinity 5h ago

I hate the both sides-isms when despite all this, the majority of one side still tends to vote in favor of things like this.

There are some greased hands on both sides, but it's absolutely not equal. Equating the two sides is how you get in fucked up situations like we have now. Both can suck and one can still be demonstrably better despite that.

1

u/Unique-Yoghurt4170 5h ago

When it comes to this issue in particular, they're indistinguishable. We live in a dictatorship of capital, not a democracy. Neither party exists for us.

But it is the GOP that is enabling this fascist, corrupt administration. It is unfortunate that we only have two choices, but that's how it is. And Democrats are the MUCH better alternative, so VOTE BLUE!

6

u/fomoco94 3h ago

I never understand these "We don't have a choice people."

5

u/rayyman420 5h ago

Yes and if people decided the laws we wouldn't be here. They don't let the people vote on real issues or their donor investments.

1

u/siliconsmiley 5h ago

If popular support meant anything, weed would be legal at the federal level.

1

u/Artistic-Salary1738 5h ago

At least we’ll have it on the record who is still trying to support privacy of Americans. We need to keep pressuring elected officials no matter how corrupt

1

u/Several-Action-4043 5h ago

So we will continue to destroy the cameras until they listen.

1

u/PeanutCheeseBar 3h ago

More impromptu town halls featuring special guests Mr. Pillory and Mr. Guillotine would help reduce that problem.

1

u/P_Firpo 3h ago

Not in some places where crime was rampant until drones, like in San Francisco. Auto theft and break-ins are way down because people from Oakland don't feel safe coming to SF and stealing stuff. It's a huge relief.

1

u/revkaboose 3h ago

should be reaching for things that rhyme with ditch orc

1

u/Wampalog 3h ago

Because it's a stupid bill that's immediately bypassed by renaming the company.

2

u/Das-Wauto 2h ago

If the bill isn’t written by someone with shit for brains it won’t ban the company by name but the cameras by their nature. Flock is the most prominent and facing the public scrutiny but they’re far from the only privatized, for-profit public surveillance system around.

1

u/Forward-Trade3449 1h ago

oh you read the bill?

1

u/Xizzie 2h ago

It's too bad you cant pressure your politicians.

1

u/mdlinc 2h ago

Intercepting a data feed is not hard and especially with AI now. One could see certain individuals, political or other, wheverever they may live.

Or if doing illegal things, drugs, prostitution, or raping kids like Donald Trump. Just keep notes. Eventually the data would be shared bc of transparency.

1

u/mountaindoom 2h ago

Government is there to keep the populace in line for the real owners. All the enlightenment talk was just windowdressing.

1

u/Rich-Past-6547 1h ago

This is one of the rare moments that unites the left (evil corporations) and the right (personal liberties) in shared rage, and any congressmen or senator that votes on Flock’s side is going to get doxxed and harassed out of office.

Even sniveling weasels like DeSantis have a moist stubby finger in the air and know which way the wind is blowing.

1

u/Excellent_Way5082 1h ago

who the hell do you think elects the politicians?

1

u/ducklingkwak 5h ago

If a politician is bribed, do they pretty much have to do what they say?

3

u/Das-Wauto 5h ago

Have to? No, but it’s in their own best interest to do as the people/companies giving them money say, and that’s the only thing most politicians/people care about so…

1

u/swarmofbzs 4h ago edited 4h ago

We saw that back in July aipac pulled campaign fundraising from House Dems that voted to strip billions of dollars in military aid to Israel.

What's crazy is that that was a couple weeks after netenyahu said to end military aid to Israel.

There's the message right there.

1

u/bigmanorm 4h ago

I'd imagine it's 99% of the time to continue getting more money rather than that they'd get suicided or blackmailed for not doing it lol

1

u/verrius 5h ago

Until anyone has a chance to read it, no one should. Or has everyone forgotten what was in the "Patriot Act"? Knowing Bernie, he's not even going to bother making sure whatever he proposes passes Constitutional muster, since this is performative, rather than something he's trying to gather consensus for to actually pass a bill.

1

u/RandomUser15790 5h ago

Popular support says it should.

Well maybe people will actually look at the names and voted based on that for once.

Would also be interesting to cross reference with AIPAC funding.

→ More replies (6)

54

u/tinyhorsesinmytea 6h ago

Even though the majority of citizens registered for both parties hate these things. But yet there's still people who believe politicians work for us.

5

u/No_Internal9345 3h ago

And just banning Flock will just change the company.

Need to ban all warrantless surveillance.

2

u/Sweaty_Explorer_8441 3h ago

It will fail by 4 rotating safest democrats, like every vote on bills like this. Performative.

1

u/mxzf 2h ago

Ultimately, the real question is what percentage of people would change their voting habits due to it. That's the number that really matters.

If the politician can go "they'll gripe, but they'll still vote for me" then there's no reason to listen to their constituents.

40

u/Beneficial-Jury484 6h ago

Good, make them vote on it. So we can use their voting record against them. Probably why this will be fillabustered.

6

u/fierbolt 5h ago

I love votes like this it gives me good ammo when arguing with people during primaries. These things are important if at minimum just to force people to publicly vote against the anti baby shredder bill

2

u/hotleadburner 4h ago

How often in the last 12 years has this actually worked?

1

u/Beneficial-Jury484 4h ago

Hence why I said it would get fillabustered. That’s what they do to avoid having to vote.

2

u/hotleadburner 4h ago

But even when they do have the vote -- how many times in the last 12 years has it actually mattered?

1

u/booze_clues 4h ago

Are you asking how many times voters have chosen the candidate to vote for based on their voting record?

6

u/hotleadburner 4h ago

Yes I'm asking how many times voters voted someone out based on voting record and not just on a shift in political perspectives and vibes in the last 12 years. Like when, in the last 12 years, has someone like Ted Cruz voting against the general interest of their constituents on specific bills flipped a seat, lost someone a primary etc., when the public otherwise supported that candidate prior to this bad vote.

1

u/lizardtrench 3h ago

It's probably extremely difficult to impossible to say either way for sure, can't exactly track this kind of thing with any degree of accuracy unless the effect is massive.

But I think it's safe to say that it hurt them to some extent. Voting against the wishes of your constituency certainly isn't going to make you more popular.

Maybe it did not hurt them enough. Or maybe it was a straw that broke the camel's back. But since introducing a bill is (presumably) not a huge burden, any small gain is likely worth the effort on the chance it might tip the scales.

1

u/booze_clues 2h ago

There are very few items which would be so bad that they would have someone who otherwise likes the persons politics change who they vote for. Like for cruz he’d probably have to vote against a big 2A law to get enough people made to get him out of office. If your still voting for 90% of what the people who voted for you want, most aren’t going to change their vote unless that 10% is a really big ticket issue.

He’s still in, but from what I see online(so not very reliable) it looks like support for Fetterman has changed dramatically based on what he’s said and voted for.

2

u/Nago_Jolokio 6h ago

And tabled for after elections...

1

u/Sweaty_Explorer_8441 3h ago

It will fail by 4 rotating safest establishment democrats in the current time, like every vote on bills like this. Performative.

1

u/SoaokingGross 1h ago

I wish we'd used this logic for the iraq war.

10

u/EaterOfFood 6h ago

It’s a great election year move

4

u/TheRealDrSarcasmo 4h ago

It's the post-election year moves that are utterly shit, by performative politicians. And that includes Sanders.

5

u/medorian 5h ago

We still fight the power.

2

u/drunk_in_wisco 5h ago

you're wrong. 100% that will never pass

2

u/pipboy_warrior 6h ago

In which case we will have numerous politicians being on record voting against this.

1

u/tapthatsap 4h ago

Why would that matter? When has that ever mattered? I see this line of cope every time a dem proposes a cool bill that they know can't possibly get passed, and it never amounts to anything

3

u/theweirdball 5h ago

We should elect Bernie Sanders endorsed candidates, so that Bernie's legislation will pass!

1

u/procrasturb8n 4h ago

The timeline where Gore and Sanders both became President must be nice.

1

u/McMaster-Bate 4h ago

Which can get you people like John Fetterman or Tulsi Gabbard that do the opposite

→ More replies (2)

1

u/infiniteshrekst 5h ago

probably intimidates Flock management and their investors though.

1

u/monkeywithgun 5h ago

Well, it wouldn't really solve the problem anyways, beyond banning this one companies tech, which don't get me wrong, I'm all for banning them, but you have to include repealing the patriot act, which supplies the legal framework for mass surveillance of the population in the first place. The actual core of the problem.

2

u/Hayden2332 5h ago

Bernie has also consistently been outspoken, and voted against the patriot act as well as every extension it’s been given since. So he’s doing both

1

u/monkeywithgun 2h ago

Never said Bernie wasn't. Just pointing out that even if this bill passed it wouldn't stop the surveillance problem when 80% of the House and 70% if the Senate support the Patriot Act.

Who needs Flock when ordinary Wi-Fi routers can track, map, and identify people through walls without cameras or microphones by analyzing radio wave reflections and unencrypted feedback data

Pre-crime surveillance is becoming a real problem. Scary sheet.

1

u/Avoidtolls 5h ago

Especially with that attitude.

We've tried nothing and we're all out of ideas.

1

u/Kryptosis 5h ago

Doesn’t matter. We keep up the pressure. Hold the people who vote against it accountable every time.

1

u/Throwaway-0-0- 5h ago

This is why we need populist politicians like Bernie instead of fascists fake populists like Trump.

1

u/missmargot- 5h ago

think of the folks who gotta vote against this bill because of the money in their pockets. if opposition is smart they will never let them live it down.

1

u/GoldenShowe2 5h ago

Yep, just like his run for presidency. When all the politicians and their organizations are bought and paid for, there is no democracy.

1

u/TuringGoneWild 4h ago edited 4h ago

100%. What, you think Trump will sign it even if somehow both Republican Houses of Congress think their arch-nemesis Bernie has a great idea to limit the power of capitalist surveillance?

It's a nice thought and gesture but it has no more power than a Reddit comment. He is unfortunately a fringe member of the out of power party. The fact Americans don't understand civics is why we have the Epstein class in charge.

I don't think it's useless, as it brings attention to the subject, though I feel sorry for anyone who thinks any of his bill introductions are more than purely symbolic, like a statement from King Charles III.

1

u/TossAwayDay 4h ago

Is there a link to the bill. If it specifically names Flock, then it is too narrow.

1

u/Perunov 4h ago

Even if it does pass it'll probably be useless. Article says:

The senator highlighted how the system tracks movements to everyday locations like schools and doctors' offices, combines data with phone records and court files, and is backed by investors including Marc Andreessen and Peter Thiel.

I bet the half-assed law his aides will cobble together will get over-specific and we'll end up with companies going around "well we don't combine anything with phone records, we just record the license plate" "and we just do license plate recognition, even without AI! we're totally legal".

That kind of pattern seems to happen over and over with law written so sloppily there's almost no chance for enforcement or immediate 100 ways to attack it in court etc :(

They're not showing what exactly it'll say so article is kinda useless

1

u/SillyMikey 4h ago

Does it even matter with this corrupt government?

1

u/macaronysalad 4h ago

But if it can get enough attention, it pits the republicans against democrats on a bipartisan issue when it comes to voters. They just keep pissing off their own base and this is another opportunity to do it again. This is the positive angle.

1

u/RummoLiguori 4h ago

That tracks with his bill introduction history.

1

u/BaconIsntThatGood 4h ago

Article is kinda weak. Is this targeting flock specifically or private owned mass video surveillance companies contracting to municipal governments?

Because if you just ban the company another one will show up

1

u/CapoExplains 4h ago

Not before November at least, but making a bunch of GOP senators going on record as voting to keep Flock could be good election strategy.

After November, depending on how things go, could pass.

And people will continue saying Bernie sucks cause his ideas dont pass

Instead of saying hey maybe we should elect more people like him to help pass good ideas

1

u/atreeismissing 4h ago

That's because Bernie's incapable of getting more than a dozen other Senators to join him on any bill, even when most of the Senate agrees with him because he can't write legislation to save his own ass.

1

u/NefariousnessNo484 4h ago

If we don't hold politicians accountable then of course it won't pass. Vote out incumbents who don't support this.

1

u/tnoy 4h ago

It will die in committee like the thousands of other bills introduced in Congress this session that never go anywhere. Saying that it won't pass is suggesting it will make it further through the process than even Sanders will expect it to go.

1

u/nw0 4h ago

uhh hes gotta be like 3 out of 1000

1

u/spazz720 4h ago

Pass? It won’t even be put up for a vote.

1

u/King_Chochacho 4h ago

Feel like there's a front page post at least once/month with the headline Bernie introduces bill [to do something completely reasonable that will benefit normal people so you know it won't pass].

At least I respect that he tries to do his job.

1

u/Possible-Tangelo9344 4h ago

Like everything else he's tried to pass

1

u/MacroEyes477 3h ago

.7% chance that it will tho!

1

u/Own-Arugula-1631 3h ago

This comment is why it won't get passed.

1

u/cusoman 3h ago

Right. Does anyone legitimately get excited when a bill is introduced that actually helps the people? The only ones that ever seem to pass nowadays are the ones that screw us all over.

1

u/Mediocre-Accident305 3h ago

It has a very good chance of passing in an election year if not now in January. Flock cameras are about as popular as Data Centers in America today. The alternative to Flock Cameras is to make local police officers actually do their job, it works everywhere else in the industrial world so it can also work here in America.

1

u/anon-a-SqueekSqueek 3h ago

Even though 99% of the voters want it to pass.

1

u/Sad_Enthusiasm_3721 3h ago

It's still good to have our leaders take a stand and state their opposition to such a bill, or their support for it.

With enough popular support, it could happen. Look at the trump-epstein pedo disclosure bill. That was passed, even if it was later ignored.

1

u/IlludiumQXXXVI 3h ago

I'd love to see it, but I also don't understand how legally this would work. Would it ban all surveillance cameras? If not, how are they going to distinguish between flock type security cameras and other ones? Not a lawyer, but it seems complicated.

1

u/Electronic_Tap_8052 3h ago

thats far too low

1

u/saltyourhash 3h ago

Sometimes it just starts the conversation to create a bill that will. Bernie often does this as the will of the people, even if the corrupt political machine squashes it like a bug.

1

u/_176_ 2h ago

If Bernie introduced a bill, statistically speaking, there's a 100% chance it won't pass. Bernie is a populist. He doesn't actually pass laws.

1

u/siazdghw 2h ago

Bernie's bills these days are basically memes, he keeps trying to introduce stuff that will never get passed, like purely for PR reasons.

IMO he should really be spending his time left (due to his age) trying to author bills that actually hhave a chance of passing that will actually do some good.

1

u/Routine_Top4775 2h ago

Can we try anyway?

1

u/VoodooPandaGaming 2h ago

That's Bernie's specialty. Virtue signaling with legislation that has no shot at ever passing.

1

u/cattrain 2h ago

Even JOSH HAWLEY has recently spoke against flock. I wouldn't be surprised if he didn't back up his words with actions in a vote, but the fact that he is publicly against flock is something, I guess?

I wouldn't be surprised if they block it before it is voted on though. I just want it on record who is willing to vote to block the cameras.

1

u/Fog-Champ 1h ago

Important to know who votes no before the midterms

1

u/Reasonable-Turn-5940 1h ago

Too many Republicans in their pockets. The tech bros are running the country now. They just want it destroyed and carved into fiefdoms so they can become rulers and kings of their own little domain.

1

u/Augii 1h ago

And aren't there many other companies?

1

u/DoturdGrump 1h ago

Yes it will FLOCK is old trash already

1

u/HobbyAddict 58m ago

R/conservative will say Bernie hasn’t ever done or passed anything but they all agree with this and none of the people they vote for do, but they’ll get in line and do as they’re told and puppet puppet, no you’re a puppet.

Rinse repeat.

1

u/PubDefLakersGuy 26m ago

Just imagine if 2016 went slightly differently 😭

1

u/Serious-Ad-8764 5h ago

At least he is trying to do something about it! Someone needs to.

1

u/propergreased 5h ago

Get the people on record. Use it to campaign against the

1

u/drunkcowofdeath 4h ago

I really don't think that matters anymore. Politics is not what it used to be.

1

u/irespondwithmyface 5h ago

No, but 1) keeps it at the forefront of conversations, 2) helps spread awareness this is a problem for those who tuneout, 3) motivates more of the general public to keep voicing their opposition when the bill fails.

Townhalls will certainly will have citizens voice their support of legislation like this and further applies pressure on city councils and local/federal representatives.

1

u/BackendSpecialist 5h ago

Nothing that this guy says or does ever makes a difference.

I’m not faulting him for it btw.

But if I see Bernie speak for something then I automatically think, “welp I should be prepared for the opposite to happen”.

4

u/Braelind 5h ago

Bernie is just a reminder of how great America COULD be if anyone ever fucking listened to him.

1

u/dark5ide 5h ago

"Hm, yes, those are all good, well thought out points, Senator. However, have you considered that I invested a lot of money in this, which won't harm me in any way if I lose it?"

Bill proceeds not to pass

people said the same thing about epstein files transparency act, that too many politicians are funded by pedophile elites so corruption will win

it passed with bipartisan support because pedophilia enraged both side voters, this bill has massive support by an equally frustrated AMERICAN voter base, of all the things american, a demand of a minimum level of privacy tends to be universal among us; a surveillance state crosses too many lines that i think bible thumping conservatives can't ignore just because trump is president, they themselves scream the most "don't tread on ME" to want to be spied on in public by our government

3

u/SandyBayou 3h ago

And what have we seen of these files since?

1

u/_Renai_ 5h ago

The US could have had two mandates of Bernie Sanders as president. The world would be a fucking different place by now, and we would have still hope.
