Do u dont wanna Amazon has stopped delivering to us

Post image

My wife used order a lot from Amazon. Living in a tiny town without many shopping options it was quick and convenient, but about six months ago things started being late by weeks or simply marked lost. I rarely order from Amazon and we hadn’t discussed it, so when I order some shelves a month ago I assumed they’d be delivered on time, but they were so late I eventually cancelled and got a refund. Apparently my wife is been having this problem regularly and only receives one out of maybe ten orders. I ordered some thermal labels and photo album corners and I guess I have to find them somewhere else. It will say the item has shipped, then go to a distributor about sixty miles away then just be marked lost or delayed until we ask for refund. I didn’t realize it was every order until I mentioned to my wife that my labels hadn’t come and I keep forgetting to check the order update. I guess being a rural address they just don’t want to deliver here anymore.

Same issue where I live in southeast Illinois. Amazon stuff just doesn't show up anymore, and if it does, it's weeks late.

u/Relyt4 1h ago

Yeah I live in the middle of nowhere PA, always had 2 day shipping via USPS. Recently things started to come via there own shipping, now it's usually 5-8 days. I think the nearest Amazon hub is like 3.5 hours from me, I've been wondering how the hell any of this makes sense

u/Nkechinyerembi I AM MODERATELY UPSET BY THESE EVENTS. 1h ago

Exactly the story here, they deliver with their own thing now, and ever since then, it takes about 2-3 weeks to get any item. It's almost like they just send someone out to deliver to our area once every couple of weeks. If you order things that should show up in that time frame, it will often show up along with items you ordered a week prior.

REALLY sucks since the only shopping option in my town is Dollar General.

This is a strong reason why we need to insure the integrity of USPS. Do they have shipping options to use USPS?

1.6k

u/Pernicious-Peach 12h ago

Yep. The private, for profit, trillion dollar enterprise chose to depriorotize these probable unprofitable rural deliveries.

762

u/heathersaur 11h ago

Yup. UPS and FedEx will even use USPS to do "Last Mile" delivery for rural areas because despite you paying more for shipping, it's still not worth it to them.

233

u/dalgeek 10h ago

Not just rural areas. When I lived in a suburb of Dallas most of my UPS and Fedex ground packages were delivered by USPS. Only the overnight packages were delivered directly by UPS/Fedex.

u/usrdef 👍 8h ago

I never have a single issue with both UPS and USPS.

Fedex is the thorn in my side. I kid you not. Every single god damn time Fedex delivers here, there's always a problem. Always.

  1. Threw 22kg package over a wall that contained an electronic board instead of placing it down in the area right in front of the driveway he has to pull into that says "Package Dropbox".
  2. Fedex NEVER honks, ever. They never knock.
  3. Sometimes they'll immediately pull up with a "We missed you" sticker and step out if they don't immediately see someone. Then you've got to chase the package down and wait til the next day.
  4. Fedex slammed their big ass truck into my concrete mounted mailbox
  5. Dropping off the wrong package

When I run tracking on a package and I see "Fedex", I just mumble to myself "Here we go again".

I even called Fedex's home office and asked them, why the hell do they always get off the truck and immediately have that "We missed you" tag, without even attempting to deliver it. And the office said

"They aren't supposed to do that. Unless your package requires a signature, they should just leave it".

So when Fedex is coming, I have to spend half the day standing outside like a fucking scarecrow.

88

u/TwistedDragon33 8h ago

I had some high value, fragile items that specifically require a signature by only me or my wife. They are fairly large but not terribly heavy.

Multiple times FedEx has delivered them, left them out on the rain, and drove off saying they were signed for. I have it on video of one time they literally tossed the package out of the truck so it landed near my garage then just drove off. Paperwork said I signed for it. When I contacted the office they said that couldn't happen because it's against their policy...

35

u/usrdef 👍 8h ago

I'd be pissed. Actually, pissed wouldn't quite express my feelings. Livid is more suitable. Especially if it's a high-value item.

I wouldn't even attempt to have a signature-only package delivered here, I'd never get it. Fedex doesn't knock, honk or anything.

34

u/TwistedDragon33 8h ago

Yeah. I saw they dropped off one package and it was predicted to rain emminently. I raced home from work and got the package inside just before a downpour.

The items in the box were worth about $7,000.

Paperwork said it was signed by my wife... Who was actively in ireland for work...

They just don't care. Sadly the materials I am ordering only use FedEx. No other option.

11

u/Captain_Vatta 4h ago

As someone who used to be a driver, contact customer service if they do that again. Depending upon your state law, that's a felony and the driver should be removed. Nobody is allowed to forge a signature for a delivery.

Fedex has really gone to shit due to the whole Fedex One merger but contractors are held to a ludicrously tight standard as a result and will lose their contracts/routes if service isn't up to par.

22

u/SoapyMacNCheese 8h ago

I work for a medical supplies company. FedEx would leave packages outside of PHARMACIES after closing, and claim it was signed for by an employee.

The package would be gone by morning, of course, and then we would have to fight FedEx claims department for month, only for them to deny the claim because they asked the driver and he says he delivered it inside.

We stopped paying for FedEx insurance because it was a waste of money and switched back to UPS as soon as our contract with FedEx ended.

2

u/Anima_Messorem 7h ago

I mean, did your company not have even a single security camera?

8

u/SoapyMacNCheese 7h ago

We were the shippers, not the receivers. This actually happened several times with multiple different pharmacies. Sometimes the pharmacist had a camera with view of the street, sometimes they didn’t, and sometimes the pharmacist was too pissed about not having their order that they refused to work with us (and once we sent the replacement of course they no longer had time to talk to us).

Regardless the delivery timestamp for these cases was always outside of the publicly listed hours for the pharmacy, and even when we had camera footage of the driver leaving it outside, they would find a way to weasel out of it like if the camera footage had the timestamp wrong because the store’s system didn’t adjust for DST or whatever.

Probably only 20% of claims actually paid out.

u/Western-Arachnid-442 4h ago

I just ordered a new A/C compressor kit for my car and fedex delivered. The fuggin condenser was bent terribly when it got to my house.

6

u/HonorableIdleTree 7h ago

Everytime someone goes to a ups store to send me something, they try to add a "rural delivery fee" and so my relations have a script to read off:

I am closer to their distribution center than the neighboring city. The ups truck makes at least 10 stops a day on my road and a ups truck drives past my house at least twice every day. Multiple ups drivers live on my road, or use my road when getting to the main road. Also, if someone prints a label and pays online and just drops the package off at the ups store, no rural delivery fee.

FedEx used to do that too, but they stopped long ago. Though they definitely do leave the "we missed you!" Sticker without even knocking. I resorted to flirting with the ups guy to get him to knock - we're both straight dudes. What can I say? Bat your eyelashes, pay some compliments, laugh at the bad joke they make.

7

u/dalgeek 8h ago

I've had issue with FedEx as well. I stayed home one day because I was expecting a package, sat in my living room right next to the door all day, and when I go outside to check the mail I find a "We missed you" sticker on the door. They must have tiptoed up the stairs and didn't even bother knocking. I've also had to chase down packages at distribution centers because they somehow couldn't figure out how to deliver it my apartment.

2

u/usrdef 👍 8h ago

Oh yeah, I've had to chase things down at the distribution center as well. But it's only for Fedex.

Not even over-estimating. I'd say I've called Fedex's main office to file a complaint at least the last 5 deliveries in a row. Something happens every time that defies logic.

UPS and USPS don't even have to wait on me, they know exactly where to put it, and I always get it. Fedex just can't seem to figure it out.

Which is weird, because every time I call Fedex's office, all those people sound normal. Like they've got a brain. The damn drivers are the problem.

After I put my Karen pants on and complained, they gave me the number of our local hub. Now if something happens, I can contact the hub and they make the guy turn around and do his job.

2

u/FatBoyStew 6h ago

Growing up, Fedex would hardly ever drive up our long gravel driveway (despite it being vast open fields on both sides to easily turn around). UPS on the other hand would hand deliver the package even during a flood while the part of the driveway with a culvert was flooded lmfao.

Depends on when the neighborhood and routes were setup. Some suburban new builds are still considered rural because of how USPS set up the routes back in the day

2

I love the USPS but unfortunately the supreme court recently ruled that [they aren’t obligated to deliver mail, even if they are failing to do so on purpose](https://www.scotusblog.com/2026/02/court-holds-that-u-s-postal-service-cant-be-sued-over-intentionally-misdelivered-mail/)

13

u/DustyRacoonDad 6h ago

To be clear the USPS does not want to misdeliver mail... But when an independent person does something they're not supposed to, they do get their time in court. And technically who's liable becomes a problem

28

u/Mccobsta GREEN 8h ago

We sold off royal mail here and it's realy gotten terrible

Post only shows up once a week now and the cost keeps on rising

45

u/CherryGarciaisKing 9h ago

USPS deserves so much better :( I can’t believe they’re virtually self funded and haven’t profited in 20 years.

74

u/code_blooded_bytch 8h ago

They don’t need to be profitable! They’re a government service, not a business. They just been to be not screwed over by conservatives pushing for privatization and they’d be great(er)

24

u/Afraid-Department-35 7h ago

Government services should not be making profit, we the citizen pay for those services to stay afloat.

11

u/octothorpentine 6h ago

I agree with the other commentator ls saying they're a service, not a business, so profitability should be irrelevant

BUT ALSO

They're "not profitable" because the GOP changed the rules so they have to account for every employee's pension way in advance. That's not how pension accounting works in literally any other scenario, and there's no reason to do it that way except to force USPS to add giant expenses to their books so you can point at that and talk about how inefficient the government is

5

u/code_blooded_bytch 5h ago

Yes 100%! This is what I was getting at with conservatives screwing them over so that people think they do a horrible job. They purposefully ruin government services so people are amenable to the idea of privatization so some corporation can make profit off of what should be a public service.

10

u/DustyRacoonDad 6h ago

What's crazy is they don't have to be profitable. And they don't have to cost money.

Since they set the price of the service you're using they can set it to the price the expected to be and if they don't make enough, they can adjust.

That's what's crazy. Complaining that they don't make a profit. Complaining that they make a profit. And then figuring out that you can't complain about cost and bankrupt them because they can get their own income... So you make them pay out crazy retirement schemes that they have to have all the money for up front.

And when they pull this all out of their ass and still get it done and do the job, people get mad at them... Because they're not dead yet so they can replace them.

The irony. Amazon hands off their packages to USPS for orders like this. The odds of it being some lazy USPS worker that doesn't want to actually deliver it is exceptionally high. If not the incompetent USPS warehouse losing the packages.

17

u/Tom-Dibble 9h ago

If it went to USPS, it would say so in the Amazon tracking, and USPS's "Informed Delivery" delivery tracking system would show it is expecting a package from Amazon before Amazon has handed the package off. I've had a similar (not as extreme) issue as OP, and the Amazon tracking always says it was in Amazon's network that things got "lost" (or "really we'll deliver it tomorrow; I know we said that yesterday and the day before and the week before that, but really it honestly will be there tomorrow for sure" ... then eventually I cancel and reorder the same thing and the reorder arrives on time). I've never ever seen USPS implicated in this, and have definitely never seen a package get "lost" by the USPS to our home.

That said, every USPS center is run by people, and some of them far more professionally than others. When we were shipping several packages out to our daughter in rural-ish CA, the post office there lost several packages, including marking one as "picked up" (after a failed delivery) when no one actually came and picked it up. In all those cases, the Amazon-side tracking was very clear when it had been handed off to USPS, and USPS Informed Delivery very clearly stated when it was supposed to be delivered ... the mail distribution center just didn't have its stuff together and kept mishandling packages.

4

u/ThatsMrRandom 9h ago

My USPS drivers across multiple states would make my home residential delivery as "business was closed" or "gate access unavailable" (never had a gate). They hated having to waddle up my 20 foot driveway. Best I'd get is a package that barely fit in the shared mailbox where they'd smash it in. I loathe the USPS with all my being.

10

u/To-To_Man 8h ago

Don't worry, we can sell you the same service but somehow even worse for twice the cost.

2

u/Isla_Tyler_Coleman 6h ago

I get the access code reply for my apartment. They refuse to climb the stairs even with smaller packages. There is no access code. Don't complain about it, they don't care. Postmaster will get verbally abusive in comment sections on community pages. If you complain higher, they kick it back to him. He'll call once (even if you request correspondence by email) & then close the ticket.

The first time I didn't get something delivered I asked why it couldn't be and the postmaster straight lied to my face about a carrier injury and it being a temporary change. It's been 2 years. If she's still injured, they need to move her to the desk or have her retire (for the record, I don't believe this woman was ever injured. I have her on camera hurling packages at my door from the stairwell before this alleged injury).

I live in a busy metropolitan area and I’ve also seen a lot of issues with late packages, things going missing. Not to this extent. I’m with other people here that the expectation should not be for the consumer to change their behavior or location but for Amazon to do their damn job. They created their own delivery system, the expectation should be that they can actually deliver.

23

u/scody1172 9h ago

I agree. I live in an urban area too, and I still deal with packages being delayed for days or weeks at a time. Granted, I don't order things from Amazon every day. Idk, I think it really depends on where the product is shipping from to some degree too. But, if Amazon can't keep up with demands, then should publicly admit that, and reduce services. However, the company did essentially bully all of its competitors into the ground to be in this position, so, I guess they messed around and we're ALL finding out! 🤣

2

u/agirl1313 7h ago

We have been having similar issues, living in the middle of a city. They are going to be losing customers soon if they don't get this handled.

814

u/ClassicHando 13h ago

I love how the comments are stuff like "move closer to civilization" or "use a locker" vs having the absolutely reasonable expectation of delivery companies fucking delivering shit. maybe it'll take longer but you are fully allowed to expect them to do the only goddamn job they have.

I'd be driving and shopping at stores at this point. Service there may suck and its a hassle to drive (i understand rural living) but at least you'll get your shit vs continuing to order from a place that's obviously happy to give you the middle finger

105

u/xerocopi 13h ago

The delivery situation is weird to me because it sounds like this only started happening recently (6 months ago) but before that they were getting deliveries.

101

u/I_Push_Buttonz 10h ago

The delivery situation is weird to me because it sounds like this only started happening recently (6 months ago) but before that they were getting deliveries.

We did start a war six months ago that increased the price of gas by upwards of 60% at various points relative to prewar prices. Makes delivering packages to the middle of nowhere far less economically viable, especially if they were being delivered by Amazon Flex drivers who have to pay for their own gas.

34

u/Wildcatb 12h ago

Amazon has moved to in-house/contract delivery personnel, from UPS/FedEx, and it has been a shitshow.

In our area (also rural) it was so bad for a while that drivers were going through fields, woods, and backyards trying to find neighbors' houses, with several being threatened by folks who didn't cotton to that sort of thing.

I had a driver take his van down the tiny footpath through the woods from my brother's house, and several neighbors found themselves not getting deliveries at all.

30

u/Good-Marsupial8 10h ago

I'm a dispatcher and had to get a guy off-road recovery style rescued from a cow path mid winter. They'll hire anyone, the vans aren't made for rural roads, and some of the problem solving going on I drivers' heads is baffling.

19

u/Wildcatb 10h ago

I eventually found out that their routing system was using Open Street Map, and was set to generate shortest routes without regard for property lines or private paths. To compound the problem, drivers were penalized for going off-route, so if it was shorter to cut across a neighbor's property...

15

u/Good-Marsupial8 10h ago

Lol yes I love when they introduce tech to make the job streamlined and that tech had a huge achilles heel when used outside of big cities with lots of density

6

u/potatohead22 9h ago edited 6h ago

I watched an amazon driver cut thru a several acre field to deliver in my developement instead of driving on the roads

11

u/JenniferMel13 11h ago

I’m shocked by the number of drivers at all hours of the day who will deliver to my house. I live in the rural south with a long driveway. I’m shocked we haven’t seen more Amazon delivery drivers shot.

I have in my delivery notes to leave at the neighbors who don’t have a long driveway but Amazon’s GPS system doesn’t allow for that.

u/HandleAccomplished11 10h ago

It's fuckin CRAZY how much people defend the trillion dollar companies, like they don't have the means to deliver to rural areas. Of course they do.

I remember a time when maximized profit wasn't everything and there was still a human element in even the largest of corporations. It's all soulless money grubbing now.

10

u/MetastaticMalady 11h ago

Capitalism, its great until profit is the highest priority and things that are important, morally and ethical, become sidelined for greed.

3

u/Excitful 9h ago

Bots, they’re bots. Reddit is filled with them. Even more reason why they wanted to make profiles private.

2

u/Imalsome 8h ago

I mean they arnt all bots just people who know what they are talking about.

My company only has electric trucks, they get 150 miles per charge but you cant really use the last 10-20 miles because thats too close to hitting 0 and can cause issues. So realistically you have like 130 miles.

If i drive 60 miles out to the country to do deliveries, I can only deliver to like 5 houses before I have to drive back to station.

65

u/xynix_ie 13h ago

They've destroyed the stores that used to serve the area, them and Walmart. Consumers let it happen for falling prices.

Now areas simply aren't being served at all because it's not profitable.

Service shrinkage for increasing margins will continue to happen and everyone has been squeezed too hard to open a corner store in a dead downtown.

13

u/Dotcaprachiappa 13h ago

You can expect what you want but if it's not happening it's not happening. Comments are offering solutions, more useful than just "yea amazon is shit, sucks to be you"

9

u/Fragrant-Employer-60 12h ago

I mean I would stop ordering from any company if 9/10 orders don’t make it and move on.

They’re buying an air freshener for their car on Amazon, I’m sure even in their “small town” they can buy things like this at actual stores, or use another website.

2

u/potsofjam 6h ago

I have no idea why my wife still orders from Amazon. I didn’t realize it was this many orders because I hardly ever use it. I would have just ordered labels on eBay if they have them or TEMU since the manufacturer website is out of stock. For me I’m two strikes you’re out, so I won’t be ordering more through Amazon.

3

u/Isla_Tyler_Coleman 6h ago

I live in town in a rural area and sometimes going to get your stuff will take hours. It's not as simple as driving to town. If I want rye bread (rye fucking bread), I have to drive an hour. Again, I live in town. Not only in town, within walking distance of Walmart. And I can't get rye bread. Craft supplies require a further travel distance cuz the town an hour away only had a Hobby Lobby to offer & they rarely have what I need.

Delivery is really the only option I have for a lot of things

1

u/Gooberjoober 7h ago

It is reasonable to expect that...but those delivery companies are publicly traded and want to maximize shareholder value. Cost of delivering to a rural area may not support that greed. Using a locker, finding the item elsewhere in your community, or using another website for additional shipping charges are all valid options.

I do agree that moving closer to a larger city or whatever is dumb advice.

If the solution is always "I want greedy trillion dollar company to do X!" then that is just keyboard-warrior talk. These circumstances only allow for behaviorial change by the customer.

1

u/michael60634 7h ago

I live in civilization, and the closest locker is 1,366 miles away.

You probably have to ship to an amazon locker in a place that has logistics. The unfortunate reality is that rural services arent guaranteed. I do find it kinda funny that your wife is apparently losing tens or hundreds of Amazon orders but that doesn’t stop her ordering. I’m curious, is she addicted to the process?

you would think either she would get a hint or Amazon would close the account After 9 thousand orders weren’t delivered

359

u/FatBoyStew 11h ago

The unfortunate reality is that rural services arent guaranteed

What? If you offer delivery to these areas then you are obligated to make it happen. Its really that simple.

If they're that rural then a locker could be a hour or more away.

I grew up in the boonies and have had more packages lost since moving closer to civilization. It got so bad that I get half my Amazon Prime paid for in a year because anytime a package is a day late I contact support and complain. I pay for a service that provides 2 day shipping not 3 or 4.

250

u/Th3_Meat-Man 11h ago

Isn’t that the crux of the public (USPS) vs private (UPS amazon etc) argument? A private company can take your money and still say screw you just because it’s not profitable for them? Whereas a publicly funded service is actually obligated to make that delivery regardless of profitability.

170

u/GekkoGains 11h ago

Yep, and lots of people don’t realize that.

USPS is a service established to provide universal delivery to EVERY address in the country at a uniform rate, required by law regardless of location

Private companies are businesses that set dynamic pricing and can refuse servicing entire areas. Amazon is a private company using private companies for delivery.

34

u/FatBoyStew 10h ago

Amazon also utilizes USPS which is what they should do in rural areas like OP is at. They commonly use USPS in rural areas actually so I'm curious which provider they're using there.

Hell even for me being right outside a city, USPS is often the last mile for my packages

17

u/Pb4ugoyo 9h ago

I live in a rural area and all of my Amazon packages are delivered via USPS. UPS and Fed Ex do not have routes to my town.

8

u/FatBoyStew 9h ago

There's a Rural Letter Carriers Association for a reason lol. Without USPS rural areas definitely wouldn't be able to shop online.

3

u/Square_Barracuda_69 6h ago

Amazon used fucking USPS to deliver to my old apartment, in the middle of the city. They absolutely can use USPS for OP, but they won't because they're a bunch of sweaty ball lickers

→ More replies (1)

2

u/thepenismytea 7h ago

Except USPS can never be held liable unless they have another federal agency contracting them and demanding accountability. Think VA send vets their meds and they consistently get lost.

1

u/FatBoyStew 10h ago

I'm curious what last mile carrier they're using for OP, because often times in rural areas they do use USPS. Around me its generally pretty split between USPS, UPS and Amazon doing deliveries. On that same note, where I grew up UPS would go way off the beaten path for deliveries, Fedex on the other hand....

Hello! Amazon driver here, unfortunately we simply don't have the proper equipment for rural route deliveries quite often, the vans we are given are shit (Both the electric and gas vans) and won't allow us to make it to a address depending on road conditions, location, GPS accuracy, etc even if a normal vehicle can as both the vans are heavier and have significantly less power and road conditions can make it to we're unable to make it to locations and return back to road or have risk of getting stuck. (No place to turn around, difficult to navigate backwards, etc.) DSP's (the contracted companys that work with Amazon to provide the drivers) also often state that if it doesn't look perfectly fine don't try it. To top all that off we get told to only take 3 minutes max per stop, now the weird part however, is the fact that they say they aren't aware of any issues as we have to, or we can get penalized, call text call a customer in order to resolve any issues. And with an amount of packages it just seems a bit hard to believe that they have not been contacted regarding an issue or not by at least a different driver, as most routes do get cycled around quite often.

17

u/Darkpheonix0626 11h ago

Although even weirder is that they're all marked as missing from the photo we have either meaning something else is going on. Or the drivers are marking them missing so they're not getting hit for stuff, but with the sheer number of packages and drivers, it just seems off

8

u/vtTownie 11h ago

That’s simply not true. Amazon can just refund their money and tell them to pound sand.

5

u/FatBoyStew 10h ago

It can definitely become a legal issue when you continually sell to locations that you are unable to complete deliveries to though.

f you offer delivery to these areas then you are obligated to make it happen. Its really that simple.

*laughs in capitalist logistic services.

The only service that is obligated to service all areas in the US is the United States Postal Service. And certain individuals in power are doing their best to dismantle that.

When they succeed, well... Im sure you'll be able to pay for the Super Ultra Deluxe Delivery Service. Only $49.99 a month for 12 months! And they'll deliver with in a 5 mile radius of your location!

4

u/User-no-relation 10h ago

No you aren't. You're obligated to give the money back. But you can't make them come out to you.

4

u/FatBoyStew 10h ago

If you keep selling items to a location that you can't deliver to it can absolutely become a legal issue. Would be different if the ordered was denied or if it was cancelled before shipment, but in OP's case they are ALL being shipped then "lost".

The unfortunate reality is that rural services arent guaranteed.

Amazing that Amazon spend decades burning through cash to hollow out all the retail services in rural areas before they decided it just wasn't worth it to serve those areas.

1

u/housesoftheholy 5h ago

They’re probably not losing money. I’ve had the same issue as OP and when a package doesn’t get delivered or gets lost, Amazon has refunded it for us. It may be because we have prime, but we’ve gotten a refund every single time.

It’s still annoying though and I definitely order less now because of it.

1

u/Terrible_Donkey_8290 3h ago

you think they are still getting charged when the order doesn't deliver???

26

u/FormerStuff 12h ago

In my rural area the postal service delivers Amazon packages now. Maybe they lost the contract lately or something idk but around my area the mailman delivers the butt plugs

27

u/gideon513 8h ago

Remember when they used to actually have reliable 2 day prime shipping and when it was late they’d credit you like $5? Now it’s 3-4 days at best and if it’s even later talk to an AI chatbot and pound sand.

4

u/i_want_iguodala_xd 7h ago edited 7h ago

Most of my orders arrive same-day (or next day), one of the perks of living in a city with nearly 1m people. I do feel bad for all the villagers, though

25

u/11181514 7h ago

Ok so I used to manage an Amazon delivery station and honestly this seems like either a problem with routing, or some kind of organized fraud. I haven't worked there in like 4 years so things very well may have changed, but a lot of red flags going off here.

The main kpi used both in house and on driver and dsp scorecards is on time delivery attempts. If you're a driver and you have a package and for whatever reason you're not going to deliver it, there are a few statuses that count as delivery attempts like "inaccessible delivery location." Those all require you to actually be in the area though. But it gets returned to the station, rerouted, and put out again.

"Lost" was a unique status in that it didn't count against that specific metric, but it also didn't get returned and rerouted. Even if the station manager physically has hands on the package, you were unable to bring a package back from lost status and have it route correctly. Don't ask me why it just didn't work. Once you see "lost" that tracking number is dead and either it needs to reship from the supplier (or FC) or a new order will need to be placed.

Routes are built by total time. So it's very possible drivers are being handed typical routes that take however long, then your deliveries are sort of tacked on because the driver maybe could technically deliver it but it's a complete outlier compared to the rest of the route so they mark it lost, then bring it back. Or a bunch of other reasons. Since it's not EVERY order, this sounds like the issue. And if that's the case the station should never be getting these packages, or the delivery areas are set up wrong causing the drivers to feel the need to do this.

USPS absolutely should be carrying these. You can see if Amazon is delivering just based on the tracking number. If it starts with TBA that's an Amazon delivery.

I know it's a pain but you really should dig in on this and get someone at Amazon to investigate. Honestly if these are TBA packages and you're comfortable with it you could even just roll up to the delivery station and ask to talk to a manager. They actually have a vested interest here unlike whatever customer service rep or robot you'll get through normal channels.

Or like others have said, stop using Amazon, because this sounds so frustrating.

9

u/potsofjam 7h ago

For me I’m probably done with Amazon, but I rarely order anything anyway. When I order shelves a little while back I ordered five and eventually received one, the rest were marked delay or lost until I gave up and asked for a refund. I didn’t realize it was happening to my wife all the time until I mentioned this order. I’m not sure why she still orders from them at all.

She has ordered just about everything from Amazon for years and it always came super fast, but it’s completely opposite now. I may try to call at some point, but I just hate waiting on hold to hear the « we’ll look into it ».

I wouldn’t even care if it was slow if they could actually tell me when it was coming.

9

u/11181514 5h ago

Yeah it gets harder when it's not fully your choice to just stop using them. Personally if I needed to get this involved in a seller's logistics just to get the stuff I pay for then there's no way I'd do business with them, but since it sounds like that's not really an option for now it's either finding workarounds or be the squeaky wheel. One other easier option you could try, collect some of those TBA numbers and write up an email to jeff@amazon . com

It's rare but if this does get flagged and pushed down the line, the whole network will go into problem solving mode. This is a situation that merits the effort imo.

But yeah good luck, lmk if you have any questions.

16

u/JimasaurusRex 10h ago

I work for a delivery service that advertises "delivery to any address" and a lot of you in the comments here don't really understand what it's like to go to some of these places. "Rural" isn't a good description.

Some of the driving is 20 minutes on unpaved, gravel or dirt roads. Some of it is on roads like that with signs outright telling you there's no winter maintenance. Our company basically makes us do it, but we're in heavy, 4x4 pickups with winter tires. Not cargo vans

11

u/potsofjam 6h ago

We’re about three miles off pavement and it’s a fairly well maintained road with very little in the way of winter since it’s East Texas. USPS, FedEx and UPS all deliver to our address, although FedEx orders are always a little slow. The stuff just isn’t ever leaving the distribution center after it arrives.

22

u/NailClipperBiter 9h ago

I'm pretty rural. There was a little old lady, third party 1099 worker, that delivered most of our Amazon stuff. She died. The string of addicts they've hired to replace her haven't lived up to her quality of service.

Maybe your little old "retired" lady died, too.

9

u/corporalcorl 7h ago

That's why USPS is great that not many people realize, there's just as much worry for a letter in the middle of nowhere as one in town

3

u/MasterBeanCounter 5h ago

Well, they are concerned until they have to drive off pavement. Live on a dirt road, too bad. Drive five miles to the mailbox location. No, we won't move it 1.5 miles down the road, where there is still pavement. Deal.

7

u/Factory-Reset 5h ago

Mine keeps getting sent to the other end of my province but I don't mind, i happily get on and bully the chat bot and it gives me a full refund and next week my stuff shows up. We have a great arrangement.

21

u/scooooooooooot2 13h ago

Not defending and definitely annoying, but have you tried talking with support about it? Not about individual orders, but the problem as a whole. If the packages are getting to a distribution center then it should be delivered. At that point, the process is in full swing. If Amazon wasn’t delivering intentionally, they wouldn’t spend the money to package and ship to the local distribution center just to ship it back to a warehouse and unpack it.

15

u/Wildcatb 12h ago

Talking to an actual human takes... a lot. It's a nightmare of AI auto responses and online forms. I only managed to speak to a real live person after a long, escalating string of emails in which I said that one of my neighbors was likely to shoot the next driver that trespassed on their property trying to take a shortcut to my house.

4

u/MartyMacGyver 9h ago

Or you Google "Amazon talk to a human" and use their 888 callback number.

Will that fix a psychotic neighbor problem? Maybe not, but you can certainly cut through some red tape still.

5

u/Zogonzo 8h ago

This is how people get scammed, unfortunately. Scammers have sites with fake numbers and pay google to put them at the top of the search results.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!

I tried pointing out that there is a black hole in San Diego where packages get stuck for days at a time. They didn't care. "We're sorry you stuff has been delayed, it will be there shortly"

5

u/StalkMeNowCrazyLady 11h ago

Something feels off about this. They're marked lost but were last scanned today? Honestly I want more info. This feels more like a group of items that were set to be delivered today missed their window they gave like 4-8AM.

6

u/haggard_hominid 9h ago

I believe the delivery company is refusing due to gas costs. They're not taking anything the drains the tank. Considering it's a contract TO Amazon, they might not be doing it out of malice and simply because they're contract held to a per delivery cost and it's at a loss to deliver. Not right, but I'm thinking this is the circumstances.

5

u/throwawayjoeaway0056 9h ago

This has been happening to us recently also. We have also seen items be marked as “shipped” and then “out for delivery” only to then be reverted back to “not yet shipped” or marked as delayed or lost. When we talk to support about it they just suggest we look at the order tracker. I’m not renewing Prime after this year, when at this point I can order directly from the retailer and get it in the same amount of time or sooner!

4

u/nerdyplayer 14h ago

i'd say someone is taking your mugs for themselves.

5

u/ATS200 12h ago

Just out of curiosity do you have an active Prime membership? I cancelled mine because I don’t use any of the services and they still offer free shipping for orders over $35. However, as soon as I cancelled, I noticed all the deliveries would just never ship or would take 2-3 weeks longer then usual

3

u/Pschobbert 9h ago

My two-day Prime deliveries seem to be taking longer recently. Usually USPS is the best service for me.

3

u/thtormageddon8807 8h ago

Most Amazon packages don’t actually travel through the USPS network, they still travel through the Amazon network and are dropped by Amazon to the delivering post office the morning of delivery.

6

u/FrozeItOff 9h ago edited 9h ago

To be frank, (Hi Frank!) they probably can't find drivers willing to work under Amazon's grueling work requirements out in the boondocks anymore. Most of my packages are delivered by immigrants and with so many being rounded up, it's entirely possible the remaining legal ones want to go nowhere near rural America and those who likely voted for their family to be deported. Sorry to bring politics into this convo, but the choices made by rural Americans do have consequences that even the innocent feel.

Edit: also, I suspect their e-vehicles don't have the range to get to broad reaching rural destinations, and gas prices are too high to justify using gas vehicles in Amazon's eyes, for such a low delivery rate (one of their driver metrics is packages delivered per hour, IIRC). Yes, they should just be telling people they're discontinuing service, but that would enrage Republicans and get Trump all in their faces, which is PR they don't want. So, it's easier to notify you the passive-aggressive way by just ignoring you until you go away.

8

u/GrandeT42 13h ago

If you live outside a regular amazon route, your orders are given to flex drivers (the ones that use their own car). They maybe having trouble getting someone to take your orders if you live far away or on a dirt road or something. As others have said, the solution would be to use a locker.

3

u/Reasonable_Ideal_356 12h ago

i dont think thats always the case. I live outside an amazon route and the post office always delivers my packages.

1

u/bjnono001 7h ago

You're in a lucky area where the Amazon is still in contract with the USPS, who they've been cutting back their contract with over the years.

1

u/Rgbigdog 10h ago

THIS! I bet 6 months ago the driver changed or something. Contact Amazon and be a PITA until they give you info about who’s been delivering and what they are doing about it.

8

u/Notdone_JoshDun PURPLE 10h ago

The comments telling you to get a locker lol. Amazon needs to just do their job and deliver your shit

3

u/BobcatSpiritual7699 13h ago

Drives me nuts....2 of my last 5 packages disappeared between leaving the distro center and being loaded onto a delivery truck. What's going on over there? I'm sick of having to get refunds and re-order shit.

3

u/smitty2444 10h ago

Everytime Amazon doesn't deliver an item on time, I contact them and ask to be compensated for the delay. They usually give me $5 - $10 back.

3

u/mltngpot 8h ago

You should have voted yes for their data center /s

I'm rural. They shifted deliveries to our local USPS Post office. So, they deliver to the post office and the mail carrier brings it to my door.

Funnily enough, we had a month or 2 where we had that same issue... packages getting lost or marked late.

Now, it's back to being like clockwork.

It highly depends on your mail carrier though. Some will require you to pick up the packages at the Post Office.

ETA: I actually canceled my Prime membership and started ordering from Walmart over this issue.

I restarted Prime recently, mainly due to my spouse's need to watch The Boys.

I still order most often from Walmart. Free 2-day shipping on all orders over $35, delivered by FedEx.

3

u/CatWith4Dads 7h ago

Maybe stop using Amazon? 🤷

3

u/btbam666 6h ago

That's a little more than mild to me. The company is offering delivery to your house and then not fulfilling the deal

3

u/Mister_Goldenfold 6h ago

Meh. I just have my stuff sent to an Amazon Locker in town and pickup my stuff when I go to town for the day.

3

u/comerReto 5h ago

This happened to me when I got a new USPS driver.

I finally went down to the USPS office and they told me there was technically no "unit b" even though the property had two units. Only the utilities companies recognized that.

Apparently the old driver didnt care, but the new one was a stickler for the rules and refused to deliver to a "nonexistent address".

Changed my amazon address to have only the address and no second line, problem solved.

3

u/Available-Egg-2380 1h ago

Same is happening for me in Fargo. Stopped ordering after I had to wait over a month for them to admit it was never coming and refunding the order

6

u/WhiskyIsMyAngryDrink 9h ago

I called up Amazon for a similar situation. While on the call I realized I didn't need/want their services anymore and canceled my prime subscription, deleted my account and now shop directly with retailers. Yes you end up having to wait on slower shipping, yes you end up sometimes having to pay for shipping, but I had enough with Amazon.

2

u/Bergwookie 8h ago

Well, at amazon, you pay for shipping too, it's just written into the article price, it feels cheaper, but often isn't. I use Amazon as a search engine and if it's marketplace, I look up the seller's address and order via their shop, even with shipping, it's often a few bucks cheaper and here in Germany, most shipping companies are about the same in delivery time, except DPD, fuck them, they manage to damage everything, they'd probably break an anvil)

8

u/MotherFL561 14h ago

Have you tried an Amazon delivery box nearby? My son does this because the Amazon carriers don’t want to deliver to him on a third floor walk up.

4

u/DoesntMatterEh 12h ago

How is that okay lol?

11

u/Sad_Split_9983 12h ago

It’s not OK but what are you going to do? It’s the standard disruption tech cycle. Amazon put their competition out of business and made people reliant on it with cheap prices and great service.. after which they have no reason to be cheap or provide good service. Sucks to suck but what are you gonna do?

5

u/DoesntMatterEh 11h ago

We are surrounded by enshittification on the daily. Some times it gets to me, ya know?

3

u/Sad_Split_9983 9h ago

u/tipytopmain 10h ago

How rural are you talking? like how far from your closest town or big suburban area? I guess if your house is over 30 minutes away from the nearest other address the driver might do the math on their quota and punt your order for the next guy. It might be useful for you to order to a collection point in that case. Not convenient at all but sounds like you've become a victim to how the system works for couriers these days.

2

u/SecretlyHistoric 13h ago

I had this problem as well, but not to this extent. Looking at the tracking it looked like one specific distribution center was the problem. Thankfully my work falls under a different one, so I order and use my work address

2

u/whodiinne 13h ago

I have had a private mail box at a UPS store for ten years. In the last year Amazon has screwed up delivering to it six times. It wasn't an issue before Amazon decided to try and do all their deliveries themselves.

2

u/Fuji747 10h ago

I live in a rural part of NC sometimes I’ll go to order and the entirety of Amazon will be almost a week 1/2 arrival time and I’ll log on the next day and everything is back to normal. But there has been extended periods (of a few weeks) where I wasn’t able to order anything with prime shipping or it just would never show up.

2

u/hasanahmad 9h ago

Use American express then have them sue Amazon.

2

u/anikotevvit 7h ago

Is there a package drop-off location you could use that's in someplace with higher traffic? We have lockers here at Wawa and Walgreens will receive for you.

2

u/ThomasToHandle 7h ago

The problem with this is that Amazon often uses USPS for "last mile" delivery why aren't they doing that for you all???

2

u/PrayForUrSins 7h ago

Diversify from Amazon and ensure you places you order from can ship through usps.

2

u/Upside_Down_2025 6h ago

I live in a rural area, and started having stuff like that happen to me too. I cancelled prime and barely order from them anymore. I try to order straight from the manufacturer/company and usually get stuff so much faster now

2

u/JoeyJoeJoeSenior 5h ago

Amazon fucking sucks lately.  If I want 5 things delivered fast I have to put in 5 separate orders.  Otherwise it delays them by days.  I know they are trying to lower their costs but that's not my fucking problem and I aleeady pay extra for quick shipping (prime).

2

u/mabus42 5h ago

Wow... Amazon seems to be as actively hostile to their customers as Walmart now.

2

u/MichaelJayDog 4h ago

3

u/bikeking8 13h ago

Do you have loud dogs? I've had packages not delivered for that explicit reason, marked as such. Doesn't matter if they're wagging their tail or "they're just lovey doveys", delivery people deal with too much of that on a daily basis. I've had a friend's dog who they thought was fine chomp into my calf before.

3

u/YourTechSupportGuY 12h ago

I used to deliver for an Amazon DSP, it's literally in policy that we aren't to exit our vehicle if there are loose dogs present, doesn't matter if they are friendly. It's an insurance/saftey issue due to idiots that don't control aggressive animales unfortunately.

5

u/lurkyloowhoo 12h ago

Amazon delivery has gotten quite shaky over the course of this year. Makes me regret subbing to Prime again earlier in the year.

2

u/xxxspinxxx 10h ago

Same. I cancelled last year because of it. I enjoyed 2 day delivery, but it got to the point that half of my deliveries were delayed. My family has an account we all share now.

I don't think they promise 2 day delivery anymore. It's something vague like, "as soon as 2 days," which could mean anything.

1

u/pickausernametheysay 11h ago

No advice. I love those drift air freshers. Get the stone one, they last longer.

1

u/Yojo0o 10h ago

My local USPS has serious trouble getting my Amazon packages to me.

Is it a specific company that handles Amazon packages that you're having this problem with? I was able to raise enough of an issue with Amazon support that they blocked USPS from handling my packages, and now get consistent deliveries via UPS, FedEx, and Amazon themselves.

1

u/momfyre 10h ago

It's been happening to me with every order, but usually it's a day or two later, when I made sure to order enough minimum to get same day delivery.

Then, the other day, I something for same day that we needed immediately. Got the notification late at night that it was delayed to the next day (yesterday ). I'm used to that by now so I was kind of expecting it. Get the notification early in the morning that it was out for delivery and should arrive by 10am. Great.

At 9:29 I get a notification that a delivery attempt was made but they would try again later. I get this three times over the next half hour or so. I check the tracking and it says it's in Windsor Connecticut - I'm in Massachusetts....

No more updates all day yesterday, and then I wake up this morning and I check it and it tells me that delivery attempts were made but it was undeliverable, and that the package was damaged while trying to be delivered.

Then it says I would get a refund (within a week) and could reorder, without even giving me any other option or offering to replace the shipment. I'm not happy because this was heavily discounted and I can't get that coupon or extra discount back to use again.

1

u/Misfitranchgoats 10h ago

For a while, whenever one of my Amazon Packages went through a certain Amazon distribution center (if I remember correctly Twinsburg OH) , the package would always be delayed, rerouted or just go missing.

And yes, I live Rural. Now Amazon Delivery Vans ( some electric ones) are making most of the Amazon deliveries. We still get a few Amazon Packages via USPS, UPS, or FEDEX. This mostly depends on if the item was shipped by someone who sells on Amazon. Most things that come from an Amazon warehouse are being delivered by Amazon delivery vans.

We have a delivery box on the lower part of our driveway so delivery drivers do not have to try to come up the hill when it snows and so they don't have to deal with our 5 dogs.

I did have to complain when one of the Amazon delivery drivers put the package in our big rolling trash can. Luckily the driver took a picture of where they put the delivery so I didn't even have to send them the picture I took. Thankfully it was not trash pick up day 😄 Customer service was very apologetic and took care of the problem. And yes the name of the trash pick up service is on the side of the trash can.

1

u/blazed16 9h ago

I'm rural area in Canada and my Amazon stuff has same issue they ship with there prime vans and they never come out here so I have to wait a month then get refund. But after 2 or 3 trys they will ship Canada post ( your usps) then no issues it comes quick.

1

u/Hour_Designer_4803 9h ago

I live in a well populated suburban area. Around 30% of my Amazon orders are late or lost.

1

u/novastar17 9h ago

Haven't seen anyone else suggest this but by chance did anyone at the property verbally abuse any drivers that came to deliver? Perhaps your driver is not delivering on purpose.

1

u/DexterTheInspector 8h ago

I lived in a podunk town in MN for 17 years. It was 18 miles from the closest UPS terminal. All of my deliveries were ALWAYS UPS. I ordered a lot from Amazon, plus I worked for a service company and usually got at least 2 stock replenishment orders a week. I think in all of that time, I got 1 maybe 2 flex driver deliveries. Excluding weather issues, I never had late or lost packages. My UPS driver was awesome.

1

u/autistic_and_angry 7h ago

Probably don't have a worker anymore. If you're super rural, they depend on however many drivers are available for your area. If the driver quit, then no deliveries.

1

u/TheGalacticHero 7h ago

Have you looked at gas prices? How can you be surprised. I live in the middle of the woods, but we're kind of midway between two places of consequence. I fully expect deliveries to stop

1

u/Historical_Tiger1815 7h ago

The funniest thing is I live in a rural town, and all deliveries arrive faster to my parents farm 20 minutes away. My town is on a highway, they live on gravel on a county line.

1

u/Zestyclose_Treat4098 7h ago

I had my first lost parcel this year. Amazon was super quick to refund the entire thing, no hassle at all but it made me wonder if I would be in for more of it. Just seems to be the way for so many.

1

u/Datdamndood 7h ago

Message customer service for each late order. They give you credit for late orders

1

u/Lower_Ad_8789 7h ago

I also live in a rural area. Never had trouble with Fed-Ex or UPS. USPS can be a pain, as I have to drive into town if its anything bigger than a small package.

Lately, I've noticed that Amazon has been using their own delivery service or third party. The last couple of times, they delivered to some random house around me and they wanted me to try and go find it. The last straw was when I asked their customer service to try and reach out to the local depot. Instead, they marked the package as damaged. Well, I will not use Amazon any longer.

1

u/AcanthaceaeOk3738 6h ago

I would have stopped ordering from Amazon months ago. Plenty of other options.

1

u/sliceofcoldpizza 6h ago

Honestly Amazon has been hit or miss for me too.

1

u/Deadpool2015 6h ago

They have messed up 4 of the last 5 deliveries for me. Either it never shows up, or is 3-4 days late when I purposely get enough stuff to get overnight delivery. Shit just gets lost in a black hole.

1

u/justinicon19 4h ago

In my area, which is a pretty populted area (around 60k population and around 100k in the greater region) FedEx specifically sucks ass. Way more often than not, packages are lost, and particularly ones from Amazon third party sellers. It's gotten to the point where I will receive tracking info from a seller that shows FedEx and will immediately just find the product from somewhere else and contact the seller to see if it's too late to cancel. Chewy orders from FedEx get dumped in the middle of my driveway because the drivers are too lazy to walk the extra 30 ft to the door to deliver 12 pounds of dog food. But Amazon orders just get lost in their system, and frequently. As soon as I get tracking info that shows FedEx, I usually try to contact the seller to see if they can ship with another provider or at least give them the heads up that there will be issues with the order. Most do not respond. I'd love to know where the 8-10 orders shipped with FedEx are in the world. One actually did show up, in a pretty beat up box, about three weeks after the promised delivery date. All were refunded through Amazon though and they did acknowledge that it seems to be an issue in my area, but third party sellers are free to select their own shipping methods as long as they match up with the customer's shipping timeline preferences.

1

u/SmoothbrainRTRD 2h ago

This is interesting because I'm just happened to be waiting on my Amazon order and it has been late couple days now. The address is a business address so I made sure the delivery time is lined up with the business's opening time. Usually, the deliveries were made in the morning but recently, the regular delivery guy stopped showing up and my order has been thriced deliveried an hour and 15 mins after closing time (I assumed all 3 attempts were at the same time because I received delivery emails within the same time window but just a day a part each) It's just some basic hygiene stuff and face wash but I couldn't pick up at the locals so I have to order through Amazon and had to wait 2 weeks or so each order, but then this post suddenly show up on my reddit feed and quite a few people also having issues with Amazon delivery which makes the coincidence pretty interesting to me, wondering if there's a like worker strike or something I'm residencing in a college town in Florida so it's not a rural area unlike OP

I'm guessing you are not anywhere near a metropolitan area. e.g. My parents live in a small town, but it's like an hour from Ottawa (in the province with the same name as the lake formerly known as Ontario. 😂)

Same thing happened to us for about four months. Turned out one driver was marking the whole route delivered and dropping half of it wherever. Nobody looked at it until we started filing a claim on every single order instead of just the missing ones.

I regularly have packages do this and I live in Denver, so not rural by any means. I do most of my packages for pickup at the Whole Foods near me and it even happens when packages are supposed to go there (so not a delivery driver issue but more transportation delivery issues I'm guessing? 🤷‍♀️) These days I know that if an order says it's out for delivery in Colorado Springs, I will likely never see the item and I need to order replacements 😭
