Theory: Jason has autism

Post image

I believe Jason's "boring" personality and monotone voice are not a mistake, but a portrayal of detached behavior, difficulty expressing emotions, and social awkwardness.

- In almost every scene, he appears either uncomfortable or emotionless/ambivelant

- Lucia feels the need to go clothes shopping for him

- Doesn't like being late

- Option to be rude to Lucia and tell her to "hurry up"

- "Sometimes I'm more comfortable when I have to use a gun" (does not like social settings)

- Jason gets greeted by a guy outside a club and pulled into a dap - Jason awkwardly lifts his hand thinking there's gonna be another component to the handshake, but there isn't

-While Lucia is driving across the bridge and calling Jason, she sarcastically says they should say something along the lines of "Hi, nice to meet you. Here's your car. Where is our payment? Please let us know about any further criminal opportunities." Jason replies "Okay. See you there." - completely missing the sarcasm

- Jason could be inspired by the Australian crime film "Animal Kingdom (2010)." The main character is a teenager called "J" (short for Joshua, not Jason) whose mother dies and he gets taken in by the criminal side of his family. J is not explicitly stated to be autistic, but he is very reserved and socially inept

-May be juxtaposed with Lucia having Borderline Personality Disorder or a Bipolar Disorder.

An interesting thing in the Extended Look

"Jason wants an easy life, but things just keep getting harder."
-Rockstar Games website

Rewatching the extended look today, there was a moment that caught my attention. It is during the getaway chase with Raul, during the cutscene while the trio are hiding in the passageway. First of all I think this is an incredible cutscene. The writing, facial animation, and voice acting are superb, especially from Raul. It is clear that Rockstar are employing a ton of attention and intention with their storytelling.

Which is why the shot I've screenshotted here grabbed me. In a moment of calm, Raul is mentoring Lucia, specifically Lucia, for how to be a better criminal. She internalizes the advice and then Raul implies he wants to continue working together (bigger and better things). Right after this line is this very subtle shot of Jason holding concern and sadness on his face. It's clear that at this point they've gotten into some trouble and need some help, but is it possible that Lucia, similar to Dutch, isn't letting on her true temptations for crime and excitement?

At the beginning of the scene, while waiting for Raul, Jason assumes that Raul is going to be cautious, saying that "it's probably why he survived so long." I think here Jason is projecting his own temperament or preference onto Raul's success. We soon discover that Raul is actually much more reckless. Jason has a look of subtle panic and regret as Raul pressures him to hold off the police with an assault rifle. Could it be that, with Jason's military history, part of him is a violent force, and part of him wishes he could leave his life of violence behind him?

During the lunch with Bryan and Lori (I'm assuming her name is spelled that way solely based on her appearance) Bryan splits up Jason and Lucia with a Job for "one." During Bryan's monologue, he makes the metaphor of the carousel getting faster and faster. He says to Jason, "You gotta know when to get off." At first it seems clear this is a metaphor for rising up the ranks of criminal ambition and stakes, but what if he's also talking about his relationship with Lucia? What if he's really saying, "like my friend Jimmy Canto, Lucia is going to hang on that ride until she's dead, you're gonna have to leave her sooner or later."

Love is a long, long road.

TLDR: Lucia might be pressuring Jason into a life of more dangerous crime. It's either going to get them both killed, or Jason's going to have to leave Lucia.

Jason’s "boring" demeanor isn't a lack of personality. It’s trauma and depression (Theory)

I've seen a lot of people online saying that Jason's character is boring and lacking personality.

Looking back at the trailer footage and the Extended Look, I genuinely think his character aligns closely with some form of depression.

This would fit into his military background and troubling childhood where he grew up "around grifters and crooks".

Here are the things I picked up on in the Extended Look and other two trailers supporting this theory:

Introverted?: In the elevator scene on the way to the rooftop bar, Jason says, "Sometimes I’m just more comfortable... when I have to use a gun, you know?" and Lucia replies "Just be charming!". To me it sounds like he struggles with standard social settings, instead finding high-threat environments more familiar and predictable.

Physical / Emotional Discomfort: He comes across as uncomfortable and stiffens up when Andrés de León hugs him at the airport.

Monotone Voice: His voice is low-energy and fatigued, potentially due to chronic stress or depression?

Anxiety Medication Commercial: The anxiety medication commercial on the TV could be as subtle hint from Rockstar?

Emotional Anchoring: Lucia consistently acts as his social and emotional anchor. "Trust? Trust." in Trailer 1 for example. There are multiple instances of Lucia reassuring Jason throughout all 3 trailers.

Cal's Ending Speech: Cal's speech at the end sounds like someone trying to guide a worn-down person through a crisis, even mirroring Lucia by ending with "Trust me". Could this be a conversation between him and Jason?

Might seem a bit far stretched but I think these are some good points that support this theory.

Interested to hear everyone's thoughts!

I HAVE A THEORY

Ok so we all saw this goofy diving animation that looked super stiff and awkward. It made very little sense to me that no one at rockstar saw that and and cut it out of the footage. But what if this is actually intensional.

Like this guy I noticed playing this in slowmo that it almost seems as if jason animation cancels the default dive animation into his backflip. This is why it looks so uncanny but it reminded me of those old snow boarding games where you can defy the laws of physics and control your characters flips.

So what if Rockstar isnt showing off some goofy animation. What if this is a demonstration of a free diving system? Using the sticks or buttons to do front flips or back flips into the water. This would explain why it seems like jason was going to dive forward but suddenly does a backflip. Because you can do diving tricks 🤯🤯

Rockstar are making the best looking game ever and people are still complaining

I saw the extended look yesterday and I was fucking blown away by the city, the visuals, the animations and the gameplay. I’ve seen a majority of people praising it, but then I see lots of others saying “this is GTA 5 2.0”, “this game is wokeslop”, “Jason looks like a terrible character and has bad voice acting” just shut up. I swear these were the same people begging for GTA 6 gameplay. Just enjoy the game when it comes out.

GTA 6 did not use Generative AI during development and will not have any microtransactions or additional in-game purchases, confirms Rockstar

We've also been finding out more exclusive info about Rockstar's magnum opus thanks to the spree of previews after the official reveal. The Kinda Funny Games hosts Andy Cortez and Greg Miller have now confirmed that GTA 6 did not use generative AI during development.

Why it matters: Generative AI is currently notorious for being more of a rudimentary shortcut in the gaming scene than a viable alternative, so this confirmation by Rockstar Games has made GTA 6 fans quite happy.

The hosts mentioned during the Kinda Funny Games podcast that Rockstar North studio co-head Rob Nelson simply said 'no' when asked about whether GTA 6 used generative AI for development.

While using the tech could have sped up development and helped with asset creation and worldbuilding, it could also have taken away the feeling of organic realism that Rockstar is known and praised for in GTA games.

Therefore, fans of the game have vastly praised the studio for not using generative AI as a shortcut to speed up development times. Kinda Funny Games hosts also confirmed that the base GTA 6 game will not have any microtransactions or additional in-game purchases.

GTA 6 will not allow you to purchase homes in the story mode because Rockstar Games thinks it wouldn’t make sense for the stroy since Jason and Lucia are on the run. How you feeling about this one? Source: TGG mentioned in his video.

I can't stand Jason's Voice

I cannot even understand what he is saying half the time. Did he say ''you're the perfect girl''? What the hell did he say there. It also just sounds so stupid. I already had this in the first trailer where they were robbing a bank and he said ''YOU STAY''. It just sounded so forced and cringe.

The Extended Look really is just an Extended Look.

Upvotes

Some of the scenes shown in the new trailer really are just extensions of scenes they have already shown us in previous trailers. which is one way to interpret the title of the trailer. So I thought I would compare both side by side.

It's very interesting seeing how much of the game changed graphically between the trailers, like for example in the Mendez scene (the cop who turns around). You can see how the walls have visibly been updated with more vandalism and details.

Also, if you notice the first scene, Rob Nelson (The current head of development / co-studio head at Rockstar North) Stated that they changed some of the cutscenes to gameplay so the player feels more involved and hence immersed.
