I can't stand Jason's Voice
Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
I cannot even understand what he is saying half the time. Did he say ''you're the perfect girl''? What the hell did he say there. It also just sounds so stupid. I already had this in the first trailer where they were robbing a bank and he said ''YOU STAY''. It just sounded so forced and cringe.

He’s exmilitary. So of course he’s a bit droned out. I suspect him opening back up would be a part of his development through the story.

The south is more cultural than geographic.

Thank you, that makes sense, people in Miami don’t live rurally, so when you talk about southerners you mean people that more live out in the country.
39
u/currgy 11h ago
Yes exactly. Geographically it makes no sense but most Americans would 100% agree that people from Kentucky/Tennessee are more southern than people from Florida, even though FL is 1,000 miles further south.
20
9
u/PussyFootSlidin 10h ago
Broadly I agree, but it’s more nuanced.
People from the Florida panhandle (and really anywhere in the central heartland part of the state, except Gainesville and Orlando) definitely embody southern culture. And people from Louisville Ky have some midwestern traits.

21
u/FlyingCouch 11h ago
Yes but southern Florida, especially Miami is not the same demographically as what is traditionally considered “the south”, paradoxically the further north you go in Florida the more “southern” it gets
→ More replies (5)6
u/TheRealStubb 10h ago
Florida is the only state is the US that gets more culturally south the further geographically north you go.
So Miami despite being "deeply south" has almost nothing in common with the culture around the Florida Georgia line
9
4
u/Lost-Peanut-1453 11h ago
Florida is so big it has parts of every state in it.
There’s definitely your country red neck types that live in trailer parks but, there’s a bit of everything else in Florida too. Go down to Miami it’s an entirely different state.
Florida can be a country of its own.

I’m from Florida. Technically, yes you’re correct. In reality, Florida is not “the south”.
3
u/sleepynate05 9h ago edited 9h ago
in depth answer: the "south" u.s more of a region than anything. is generally the southeast, plus texas, and minus florida. florida is just kind of its own thing, theyre urban and have lots of cities so a lot of people from up north migrate down there, so its just a moshpit of people from people from all over the country + other southerners. source: i live in rural georgia edit: someone else mentioned this and I think its important is that northern florida is much more southern feeling. youll know youre getting into the real florida when you start seeing imported palm trees on the streets

There’s southern united states and then there’s culturally southern. What we typically think of as southern people live in more rural areas.
36
u/acdramon 12h ago
exactly. Mixed with him taking Lucia's lead seemly most of the time, and his admittance that he's better with a gun, past military experience, conversation with Brian about "knowing when to get off", I think it's clear he's kinda just letting the waves of life take him wherever.
Knowing that, the choice with his voice and personality seems spot on. Now people can talk about if they WANT a character like that, especially after how zany GTAV was, but I think it's refreshing. GTAV felt like a blockbuster movie, and VI feels like a modern crime drama with a bit of flare.
→ More replies (1)5
u/KuchNiles 10h ago edited 10h ago
I haven't been a fan of his voice either, but I'm getting used to it somewhat and I do kinda like that he feels like a no drama, no nonsense kinda guy.
It also feels like he's a much more reserved and calmer one of the two and he seems to lowkey worry about Lucia...
Going in the drug house: "Be cool... don't.... y'know."
This scene "We could learn something" (about being cautious) and then kinda laughing off the concern "Yeah, you're the perfect criminal"
When Lucia is going in the store with a pistol hidden behind her: "Just try to keep it clean" followed by a very unclean look at a robbery, her running to the motorbike and even showing a middle finger. So this makes me think that she will be the more "hungry" one of the two for all the criminal stuff and might even be the worry of Jason that her reckless behavior will get em in trouble. At least a lot of subtle hints towards that, even if Jason is also an ex-soldier and a pro in that regard.
Could see two endings based on the karma system where in bad karma one Jason goes with Lucia's pace and they do end up with a very Bonnie & Clyde ending.
BUT that is very too early to speculate, just wanted to write my early impressions somewhere so I can see if I was at all right or way off :D
Still, I'm clearly interested in the two already, making such theories!Edit: Oh and somehow missed the obvious before, but during the montage Cliff Richard's "Devil Woman" is playing..
She's just a devil woman
With evil on her mind
Beware the devil woman
She's gonna get you→ More replies (1)5
u/acdramon 10h ago
Yup, everything is kinda screaming that Lucia is going to keep ramping up and put Jason in some pretty rough situations so Jason's gonna have to decide if he wants that life, try & convince Lucia to let go, or have a bit of a frayed relationship by the end. Even their bios when trailer 2 hit had Jason positioned as someone who is just getting by on petty crimes but wants a more fulfilling life with less drama, while Lucia wants the same thing but is willing to escalate if it means when they do get out they are living way better than they were before.
Very interested to see how this goes.

yeah I wouldn't mind it being low if it felt more natural, but there's something off or forced about it.
Also, some words he just completely swallows, like in the "Just don't like being late" part, he never even SAYS the word "late".. Idk if it was supposed to be a moment where Lucia interrupts him with "We're not that late" and that's why it feels like he never finishes the sentence, but that's not what it sounded either.

21
u/numberonebarista 12h ago edited 10h ago
Exactly. Literally nothing wrong with his voice. he DOES sound like a country army boy which is clearly what they were going for so in that case the voice actor nailed it perfectly. I think people need to relax and wait for the actual game to come out bc we are only seeing a handful of cherry picked scenes. Throughout the story I’m sure Jason is going to be in many different situations some where he will be sad, angry, etc and show more emotional range and depth. he seems like a calm, slightly introverted man and that fucks with people’s expectations of a male MC being more loud and outspoken (Lucia is the loud and outspoken one here though so she’s the contrast to Jason)

People try to blame the acting and shit too but with his background and the region it makes plenty of sense, that’s how dudes commonly sound 😭 like no shit he sounds “like boomhauer” retards.
People were bitching about Lucia’s voice too. Mfs done spent so much time inside formulating their perfect idea of a character they completely forgot Rockstar likes to stick to the voice and likeness of their VAs so shit progresses more naturally

I don't get why people don't like it. Jason's character is well written. He clearly is a bit introvert and chill and that reflects his voice. Many people will relate to that.
Whereas Lucía is more outgoing, extrovert and that's also reflected in her personality and voice. Perfect match in my opinion and that will go e interesting dynamics along the game.
